One character to rule it all. What would you choose?
My Warshade feels the most like my 'Jack of all' character. Extremely powerful when played correctly yet requires you to pay attention, avoiding the boredom of the 'set and forget' types. Just remember the mantra; "You are all forms at all times." I was never able to get into Khelds until I embraced that notion.
If I was forced to pick a standard AT? I'd have to go with Bots/Storm.

Fort/widow VEAT. Lots of buffs, choice or melee or ranged depending on your mood.

The thread as a whole is full of people soloing AV's/Doing cool things on their Warshades so really any post works. I can't tell if you're being snarky because you had to go through the hard labor of scrolling down a few inches or if you were asking a legitimate question, so I'll reserve further response until you clear that up.
Edit: I just noticed the top post linked to the one person doing trivial/pointless things and then bragging about it and posting in the thread. Sorry about that. Let me be more specific.
I'm surprised no mentioned Fire/Kinetics controllers. :E
I <3 my Zombeh.
I think my slotting is a bit unconventional (Everyone I show it to kinda scratches their heads and goes Huh?)
Still, for me and my play style it works.
Leveling it up may be kinda sucky, but running at level 50 I find it so much fun.
He's good for TFs/Trials, Missions, Farms, and such. I don't think he'd be good at PVP, at least not with his current build anyways.

Something with Traps.
Robot Traps is very good as it can do it all at 4/8. But as much as I enjoy my Robot Traps I think my AR Traps is a bit more fun because it can handle the same my Robot does but without the hassle of pet management. So if I can do AVs with my AR Traps then I think something with a bit more higher dps output would probably fair a bit better then my AR Traps does.

You're the first person I've seen that judges the performance of their character that way. Usually, it's top end performance people focus on, while others prefer to look at the average performance.
I find it interesting that you go that route. I've yet to experience any true lows for the WS that I are really any different than any other character I've leveled, minus the vunerability to quantams which can be annoying. |

@Caucasiafro
Ice/Fire/Ice Dominator.
It played well from 1 to 50. It also has room to expand while going for perma dom, IOs, accolades, and incarnates. It is a tad squishy, but when played right can be very effective. The extra +hp in accolades and IO's goes a long way.
In PvE it can completely disable mobs through ice slick and sleet. I love how the knockdown overlaps and keeps everything flopping around. The slows, AoE hold, and AoE immob are available for complete mob lockdown. Arctic air is great especially with the contagious confusion proc. The damage numbers are impressive through firey assault, sleet, and ice storm. Solo is no problem. Running on a team I can control and debuff (-30% res/def) every enemy in every mob. Elite bosses and some AV's even get held pretty quickly, and then I have the debuff and damage numbers to rip through them. Jack Frost makes a great aggro dummy if needed. Being held, slept, stunned, etc is a thing of the past because of perma dom. With the types of powers available it is pretty easy to push 35% defense to s/l and ranged AND have the recharge for perma dom.
In PvP it is a damage powerhouse. Ice block hits much harder than other sets besides Earth Control could hope to. Arctic Air has a very nice, no animation time included confuse if you are smart when using it. With the -recharge, -secondary, -recovery interface proc you can actually have a meaningful amount of -recharge and the hold lasts a bit longer if you get a few attacks in before. Firey assault is just mean.
Thematically its awesome. Freeze em then burn em I say.
Final thoughts: I really like my elec/kin and soon to be artic epic tanker so far and would highly recommend it if you were only going for a single character to play as its just a good all around character and tanks are just really fun to play. I'd say that elec armor is one of the best all around sets in the game and you won't go wrong with choosing it.

Honestly, this is off topic from the thread itself, but I'm actually going to commend Gospel_NA for how he handles flaming on the forums as opposed to some people who fight right back. Kudos.
My Mind/Psi/Fire Perma Dom makes me happy.
I would say she would be the one thing I have in my toon selection that gets the job done, easily, and quickly. Other than my Grav/FF/Psi controller I feel god-like!
Montaugh,
We spoke earlier tonight. Sounds like you've got a really fun build and I'd be quite interested in seeing it. Thanks again for the chat! |
As for the build itself, I decided not to go with defenses as is typically done. I focused more on the recharge, end, and regeneration aspects. I also boosted my psi resistance and when things go south I pop power surge. I'm looking forward to incarnate levels of play and adding a few more things to the build.. I'll keep building on the -damage aspect in the incarnate levels as well as regeneration and recharge. Pets I thinking of Vanguard.
Its not to the best build in the world but it sure is fun. So far while leveling up and fighting various mobs the only ones that have given me a hard time have been Vahzilok(sp), and Vanguard from the red and black arc in the Rikti zone. Nemisis jeager mechs can be a pain when you spawn an entire group of them as they do mostly toxic damage but a few insp and I'm good to go.
I wanted to make a special note regarding The Vanguard. They were a huge walk up call as they were the first group to actually stop me dead in my tracks. I've gone against 4 fake nemesis bosses (oranges), 3 master illusionists (red bosses), rooms full of malta and rularuu.. and the vanguard just humbled me as they beat me down in meer seconds. The Vanguard Rangers (with the claws) have a wicked nasty amount of -res on their claws and made short work of my Elec/kin tanker. Its most likely the closest that a heavy resisitance based build gets to cascade failure as one moment you're ok and the next all of your resistances are gone, you're dead on the ground and you are left wondering what the heck just happened. I turned down the mission for the rest of the arc when facing them from that moment on. nasty little buggers those Vanguard.
Like I said not the best build and I'm sure that some people are looking at it and rolling their eyes (NOT looking for build advice btw), Its a fun build and I'm enjoying the character a lot and I can not recommend the Elec/Kin tanker combination enough to anyone looking for a good all around character.
anyways enough of my babbling..

I highly doubt it. Bots/Traps can stack -60% resist rather trivially, as well as dish out a whopping -1000% regeneration. Don't forget that any of the +recharge granted by /Time cannot affect the henchmen.

Seconded. A Warshade can do it all. Darkhorse points to a well-built Incarnate Huntsman. Hell's lawnmower on wheels.

"This here's my demon face. You see I'm Satan's onion...s-scallion.. 'Minion?' no, not that."
I believe it, since it will obviously be easy to perma a saturated Eclipse (and mire(s) too), but what would the attack chain be? (and would stance dancing be involved)?
Sorry for the bit of derail..but I believe all these characters fit the bill! Best, MT |
For the Tri Form build I posted earlier, the opening farming 'chain' is Eclipse>Sunless Mire>Dwarf Mire>Quasar>Small Blue>Stygian Circle. After that, the chain is Dwarf Mire>Nova Aoes>Dwarf Mire>Nova AoEs, dropping to human for Sunless Mire/Quasar/Eclipse as soon as they're up, and Stygian Circle when needed. Binds are helpful. Unchain Essence is optional.
I think my Human Form Build might even be doing better AoE damage via my Orbiting Death slotting/Reactive/Unchain Essence and the immensely superior ST chain focused on bosses (S Blast>G Well>S Blast>E Drain.) That's the build I can solo level 52 AV's with.
Fire/Storm/Stone Controller.
All four elements, one unstoppable combination.
2x Acid Mortar = 40%, where's the rest from.. are you counting the proc? It's late..apologies if I'm forgetting something obvious
|
SO much this. Especially after reading Dechs' guide. I change stances all the time in battle and just murder everything. Still searching for a nice AoE chain that doesn't involve stance-dancing TOO much. Suggestions?
|
My AoE attack chain tends to boil down to the two Nova powers and the occasional Unchain Essence or Quasar. Unless I'm running TFs on +3, I find stuff doesn't last long enough to change forms too many times.

I wouldn't consider it "trivial" to have two acid mortars up with traps. You still have to wait for the power to recharge. You can get that on AVs sure, but how often are enemies in normal spawns going to last long enough for you to cast acid mortar twice? It's also still a stupid pet and the radius isn't super large. I like traps, but don't exaggerate!
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

You mention "enemies in normal spawns," but nothing of what I've said has been built around normal spawns.

My favorite characters are a Stone/Willpower Brute and an Ice/Electric Blaster. So maybe combine them together and I'll have something.
I wish I had done this though... Rather than Altaholic all over the place, i wish I had played one or two strong characters extensively. As is, I have like 15 level 50s and half of them are half-baked, missing enhancements, let alone Incarnate powers.
Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

My vote would go for SS/FA Brute with whatever ancillary you prefer (I like Pyre for its giant AoE potential when coupled with Reactive Interface).
We make it suggested reading for WS players in our SG.
For me it's illusion/radiation controller. Not the fastest or most ideal at every particular thing I want to do, but all-around fine and just really comfortable and happy for me to play.

Warshades can solo level 52 AV's, possibly higher.
That is true in a broad sense, I suppose, but if we're talking about the 'high end' of performance as you have indicated, the gap almost completely dissipates. Human Form Warshades have the DPS to solo leevel 52 AV's without any pets whatsoever. Granted, that's with fully saturated mires, but even without them on a team VS. AV situation a Warshade can still contribute a pretty nice amount of damage. Human Form is also capable of very nice survivability via defense and HP bonuses; My build sits at 35% s/l defense, and 28%m/21%r/22%aoe. Its' HP is 1 below Brutes' base, and it caps eclipse for 85% resistance to all damage with just 5 targets. Anyways, just food for thought. |
Trying to be clearer: you're gonna think 'oh i'm facing a single target, I could do so much more with more mobs' more than the second most-mob dependent toon I have, a DM/DA scrapper - she will do less damage (less food for Soul Drain, which is like Mire) and have less targets to heal off (although if you slot dark regen for healing/acc it won't be much problem, that's after you go through DA's end issues).
But while she can do a very decent job pseudo tanking and even damaging a single AV with no ADDs, even at her highest 'potential', surrounded by fodder to use soul drain, dark regen and dark consumption, she won't melt whole spawns in seconds like a Warshade or be at the resist cap or those crazy things WSs are capable of when at their best. That's also pretty much why DA and WSs suck for pvp while PBs are very acceptable there, PBs are self contained as you certainly know (I can't stand playing them and haven't bothered with pvp after the changes, just giving examples - their heals, BU and long range from Nova blasts are good for pvp'ers, WS Nova would only make good use of the range).
Forts are the one Epic I've never taken to 50... They just don't speak to me...
