I watched the Cinematic and then went to the website and signed up for their beta, after watching the gameplay trailer posted later in the thread I do not regret my decision.

Although, I gotta say. From the cinematic and the game play.. this looks like it would have made a much better series of action RPGs similar to Wild Arms.

*will wait and see*

There seems to be no character generation in this game. It looks like you choose one of the pre-existing characters and play as that. I'm not even sure this is a true MMO. It looks pretty instanced and designed to work with a 3 person team. I wouldn't be surprised if the other 2 players are bots.

See, I disagree that all 'gun-fu' has to look the same. I agree that there are some fairly iconic 'pistol' style attacks that largely work, though I think they're the ones that don't fit the 'gun-fu' style the most. The animations for our game's [pistols] or [executioner's shot] for example. The Wildstar gameplay video had an attack animation that looked very similar to [dual wield] though which never struck me as very iconic of a move.

I don't really think they're specifically copying Dual Pistols animations, I mostly just think it's entertaining.

To be fair, the gameplay footage we've seen is pre-beta footage. I've seen a lot of times that when the game's in the early stages of development they'll have a set of pre-generated characters for people at the convention to play and it kind of makes sense that they'd have those characters be the same ones shown in the trailer. Especially considering Carbine Studios mentioned on twitter that most of the models in the trailer were simply up-rezed versions of actual game assets.

Also in an interview I saw where they were talking about the Player Path thing there was mention of one path that would offer 'social' quests to players (for folks who preferred interaction with other players versus exploration or combat) so the game will at least have some sort of multiplayer aspect. I would imagine, given the current trends, that the game is more likely to be heavily phased as opposed to heavily instanced. All in all though it's really entirely too early to really be doing much more than making educated guesses.

The gameplay actually looks interesting, but while watching the gameplay video I couldn't shake the sense I was watching the result of Space Ace and Gauntlet hooking up and having an MMO love child that was being covered by the Golf Channel.

It was later confirmed by a dev on the Eurogamer forums that character generation is infact in and that the pre-generated characters were purely for the demo.

As an aside, I wish Borderlands worked this way. I'd love to have the other three Vault Hunters tagging along in offline play, like the other Survivors in solo Left 4 Dead. It'd liven up the dialogue.

Looked cute to me. Looking forward to getting more info.

As I accidentally started another thread to say...

...anyone thinking Firefly: The Animated Series for this? More than a hint of Capn' Mal and Jayne in the two male leads. And a less-serious space MMO is something I've been hankering after for a while...

Speaking of Pixar, is it just me or does the gunslinger run like Woody from Toy Story?

And art style that looks good to me? Check! What looks to be a fun setting? Check!

Now all that needs to be done is figure out if the gameplay is fun!

Except at no point in my most feverish Firefly fantasies I would imagine River to be an anthropomorphic Bunny Girl.

I was thinking more Inara. And fairly sure she'd have furry outfits as part of her wardrobe for "special" clients.

Ok, I'm sure the thread will be deleted or at least locked before tomorrow but I'll chime in with more information on the game.

There are two factions, basically good guys and bad guys.
Multiple species and classes for both factions.
The three guys you see in the cinematic and game play were pre-generated characters that are used in the demo play at the show. The reason for the pre-generation is because ncsoft found that players were using up a large chunk of their 40 minute play time creating their characters. Remind you of any other games?

The bunny girl doesn't have to be a bunny or purple. That species is anthropomorphic and can have choices of different colors, different ears, different tails. I believe the species name translates to furries. They are psychics and they are the support class. They have heals, buffs, and debuffs. however they also have a decent amount of dps.

The guy with the guns was human. Can't remember the class name but it's basically a techno mage. They use technology enhanced with their own magic abilities. They are pretty much a blapper.

Don't remember the species name of the rock guy either but he was a mercenary. Basically a scrapper.

The part that sounds awesome about the game is you don't have to play it fast twitch like they were showing. The game mechanics allow for slow and steady taking on of foes all the way up to full on scrapper lock.

Also there are trees of specialization you can take. You can be a Warrior (most your missions are tailored toward fighting), An Explorer (most your missions are tailored toward exploring out of the way places and you can even earn abilities that let you get to places other specialties can't), A collector (think missions designed to satisfy badge collectors.).

And there are three forms of end game. There is PvP. There are group raids. And there are solo or small group missions. That's basically what I remember from the panel and demo. Anybody else who was there can correct or add to it.

The thread's managed to glide under the radar for a solid week now, so I dunno, about the IBTD.

As far as the rest, it's nice to have a good bit more info, Thanks. Sounds pretty interesting.

So each race is limited to their own specific class? Like I couldn't have a Human support type, or an Anthropomorphic Techno-mage? Or was that just the the Class which the Bunnygirl was, with other classes being available?

If it's specific Race = specific Class, that's kind of a downer, but I suppose if the customization is good enough it's not so big of a deal for me.

Also, do you know if both genders are available for each race? (Kinda of a no brainer question, but you can never be too sure.)

I'm going to make Zwillinger recheck the studio for bugs:

I'm pretty sure the community reps got the word from higher up that everyone in the NCsoft family supports one another now.

Possibly because it was announced on the City Of Heroes facebook page as well? Would be a bit stupid to announce it and then refuse to let us even briefly discuss it?

Maybe they finally got smart about the unreasonable restrictions, or some suit at NCSoft finally found out that it was undercutting their bottom line.

Could always test that by bringing up what will potentially be the best MMORPG ever launched in the form of Guild Wars 2 in another thread!

Where do I sign?

Truthfully though, CoX does fine for me for the stacked part.

I won't be bothering with it; I prefer a gritty sci-fi game. I'd watch this if it was a TV cartoon, but won't play it as a game.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what this game has to offer. The trailer looked awesome! I'm especially interested in what looks like a dodge mechanic in the trailer.
