True, that.

How about all twelve swords of Power from Fred Sabergen?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve_Swords_of_Power

"And for us this is the end of all stories, and we can mostly say they lived happily ever after. But for them it was the beginning of the real story. All there life in this world and all there adventures in Narnia had only be the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of The Great Story which no one on earth has ever read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before" - C.S Lewis, The Last Battle.

If a sword doesn't have it's own name, it's not really one of the coolest swords.

Light sabres may be the exception which proves the rule.

Well there's this one:

That said, Drizzt Do'Urden and his swords Twinkle and Icingdeath are probably Cosplay'ed more than any character on that list and the lists here.

As far as D&D Swords go, I am always greatful for the lessons taught by Harkon Lukas's bezerker sword taught me. Before that, I would try with all my resources to be free of cursed swords. After reading about Harkon Lucas, I wanted a cursed sword for my character as he showed just how useful they were. Sure a -1 Cursed sword has a -1 to hit and damage, but that drawback is easily mitigated, and it was still a magical sword which meant it could damage creatures that could be damaged only by magical weapons, plus it came right to your hand whenever you are attacked or attacking someone. How cool was that!

Gotta agree that it is an oversight not to include the Highlander katana. I would say both Duncan's and Conner's but, you know, there can be only one. (Sorry, had to say it.)

They also should DEFINITELY have included Greyswandiir. Can't have a list of swords without Greyswandiir.

Talon's sword from Sword and the Sorcerer, and the Mind Sword from Hawk the Slayer are on my want list for my own personal Geek Collection.

Also how can that list not have Sting (from The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings)?

Surprised nobody mentioned Morgaine's sword Changeling, which basically had a small black hole at its tip.

That list should simply be:

1- Excalibur
2- Stormbringer

A distant 3- Everything else

10: Star Wars stormtrooper gun

9. Star Trek phaser

8. Darien Lambert's keyfob/gun from Time Trax, may not look like a gun but can stun or help send criminals back to the future

6. The phased plasma 40 watt range rifle

5. Han Solo's blaster great for blasting bounty hunters from under the table and angering space slugs, not much use against Sith Lords though

4. Dirty Harry's traditional 44 magnum, and also the 44 automag that he used for the final gunfight in Sudden Impact.

3. Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon ray guns, classic!

2. Robocop's gun

Its a short sword, longer than a dagger and well shorter than a long sword.

Stormbringer is only unknown if you aren't really a geek, or even geekish. It's like not knowing who Deja Thoris or Grey Mouser are.

The sword has been mentioned in books that weren't written by Moorcock. Various metal bands have written entire albums dedicated to the series. The song Black Blade by Blue Oyster Cult is about Stormbringer.

Cheers for having the Swords of the Cross on the list...

I'm surprised Saberhagen's Swords aren't on here, though.

Any sword by Masamune or Murasame (the legendary blacksmiths) would probably be on here.

The Daicon IV bunny girl sword surfs on Stormbringer, tough to get geekier than that.

*Daicon is/was a multi genre SciFi/Fantasy/Comic/Wargaming con in Japan. The opening animation for Daicon III and Daicon IV were done by the people who later founded Gainax. The Daicon IV opening animation could be considered to be the first anime music video, music by ELO to original animation that includes references and cameos of hundreds of characters and mecha from SciFi, Fantasy, western comics and manga.

No-one mentioned this one???

Magik's Soulsword
This sword can disrupt magic, shatter enchantments and destroy mystical creations/creatures without hurting anyone “normal.”

And this one...

Dragonfang

This sword was originally possessed by the Ancient One, who in turn passed it down to his disciple, Dr. Strange. Dr. Strange then passed it onto Valkyrie. During the events of Ragnarok, she fell in battle and the sword got picked up by Lady Sif.

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Agree with the point about Saberhagen's Swords. Although that is 10? of them..so a bit hard to rank. And what about another Moorcock one..the Sword of The Dawn? That is another awesome one. Unless it cant get on the list cause Stormbringer already is. And I find it a complete joke that the writer of the article has not even read an Elric book..do some research!

They are called Boffer LARPs, and they run all across the world. It is very hard to beat a Boffer LARP out the geek scale.

I thought the list was pretty good, but not great.

Narsil and/or Glamdring should be on there.

For some new school flavor, I can't think of a cooler blade than Uther Doul's Probability Sword from China Mieville's The Scar.
