I haven't been in a Closed Beta since. It seems like less and less mac players get invited to Closed Beta releases and THAT is why these problems haven't been solved. It really bit us in the *** here; because no active mac user was involved in closed beta for I21 this whole store problem is now THREE days from going live.

My point is this: We've had the same problems for two years, and I've only ever seen Cuppa report his/her findings when the closed beta goes Open. This time he/she didn't have the chance, and with no active feedback the **** hit the fan.

I know it is quite late in the process, but today is the first opportunity I've had to run on Beta, heh. Just going to throw in my 2 cents.

First, the specs:
13" Macbook Pro
OSX 10.5.8, Leopard
2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB RAM

-After downloading the Beta client, I deleted the DMG from "Downloads" then Repaired the client. Beta access granted, no problem.

-Once in, the character creation process fit the screen size, no problem from first page to last.

-Upon accessing the store, I encountered the problem where I did not see text on almost any buttons, although it was just blank, I did not get a bunch of symbols like some others.

-While accessing the store from the character creation screen, it did not fit. The bottom was aligned correctly, as were the sides, but the top was off screen, I could only see the bottom parts of the top row of buttons (Home, Cart, Support, etc.)

-After some guess work/logic, I was able to purchase both the Rocket Board and Beam Rifle without issue.

-Once in-game, access to the store changed. Once again, it did not fit the screen, except now it was the bottom that was pushed off. Interestingly, there was a gap at the top of the screen (where the store did not quite align with the top, and I could still see the game universe). Had the store aligned with the top, I think the entire thing would have been visible.

-I did not experience any crashing while in the game, though I did not spend more than a couple minutes in the store at any one time.

-Now that I have exited, pressing "Play Now" while I have CoH Beta selected has no effect. I have not attempted any fix for this (is there one?). I was still able to launch the Live version without a problem.

Hope this helps whoever is out there!

Yeah, the fix for your last problem is to delete the Beta Preferences folder.

Or in my case just delete the "user.reg" file in the Beta Preferences folder.

Yep, that did the trick too. Of course, it also forced me to redo all the graphics and audio settings. It'd be nice if the problem weren't tied up with other stuff like that.

Zwill, Can you give us a Pre-Launch update tomorrow? That way we know where we stand as MAC Users and we arent blowing up the boards please.

Currently I am seeing I have to go through this VERY inconvenient process, when the first day of CB, there were few of us who were MAC Clients who stated DAY 1! that we couldnt use BETA. And after months of QAing and getting ready for the release it seems that its just barely weeks before launch that troubleshooting started happening. I am not feeling very VIP.

You could start the game, set your graphics and such, close the game (do not open the market!) and then make a copy of that file. After you open the market from then on, on exit overwrite your user.reg with the backed up, working one (you can also edit out the various Qt sections, since that's what the Launcher borks on).

Here's where we currently stand:

  • We have a high level of confidence (based on initial internal testing last week) that the launcher issue has been addressed and *should be* live for tomorrow. There's still more testing to do, however barring any major issues, this should be ready very soon. I have requested regular updates regarding this and expect to hear confirmation this afternoon sometime. I'll let you know as soon as I do.
  • We believe we have addressed most, if not all, of the text issues in the Market. That's the good news. The not as good news is that we were unable to work these fixes into the release (i.e.; tomorrow's) build. This will go into the first publish following the release of i21, which should hit live servers sometime later this week. It will hit either Training Room or Beta before hand, so I'll update when it's in a test environment so everyone can check it out.

I do apologize that the Market issue is not going to be addressed prior to launch. If you wish to hurl insults at me, please commence at your convenience.

Thanks

FPARN? I am not affected by this change, so I do not want to minimize their disappointment, but I do know it helps to know and thank you for the information.

So Zwill, will you be performing showtunes on Ustream for us tomorrow during the marathon update (looks like 9 hours planned).

Quick! Everyone jump on Zwillinger, as he was the one who kidnapped the dev who would otherwise have fixed this sooner. :P

I'm actually pretty impressed at the dedication being put into getting the Mac issues ironed out as quickly as they are. A second publish within a week of launch to fix the remainder of the problems should be good enough for anyone.

@Draeth Darkstar
Virtue [Heroes, Roleplay], Freedom [Villains], Exalted [All Sides, Roleplay]
Code:
I24 Proc Chance = (Enhanced Recharge + Activation Time) * (Current PPM * 1.25) / 60*(1 + .75*(.15*Radius - 0.011*Radius*(360-Arc)/30))
Single Target Radius = 0. AoE Non-Cone Arc = 360.

Thank you, Zwillinger. That's good to hear. We look forward to further updates.

No personal apologies necessary. It's most noble of you to put yourself in the line of fire, but shooting the messenger is nothing more than wasted ammunition, especially when more deserving targets may be sighted in our crosshairs.

I am curious to find out if the new Launcher will be able to patch the Mac client itself (if not I posted info on how to do that as well).
I saw and thank you!

It's not like it's your fault, Zwill. I'm going to make a very honest, very sincere and rage-free request though. I understand if you can't say anything or just plain can't do it, but here goes.

Can you and the folks in charge of betas try to get more active mac users in on more and more closed betas? That way we can sniff out these problems sooner?

That's excellent news. "Being able to play, period" far trumps my desire to "access the store."

Hey, there are pictures for the mean time! And to hear "later this week" as opposed to "in a week or two" is fantastic. We have waited this long, what's another couple days? (As long as we have access to the rest of i21 stuff.)

Thanks Zwillinger! Your diligence in pulling for us Mac users is noted and most appreciated sir!

Because of the text issue with the Mac client has there been any thought given to players that may purchase something accidentally because they couldn't read the text? I'm not sure how bad the text issue is because even after the work around I could not get my client to access it at all, I still got the assertion error.

Edit

Okay I totally misread the post. I didn't realize we would not have market access at all tomorrow and the patch MAY be out sometime this week. To me that makes no sense at all. Why give us an update only to have a big patch later during the week? Why not fix the problem and release the fixed issue next week? Unless this is just a way to pacify MAc users and a fix really isn't on it's way?

Zwillinger, my main concern is than the Mac users will not be able to take advantage of the special discounts being offered during the head start, or at least not for the same duration as the PC crowd (assuming the bugs are fixed within a week). Any word on this?

And thank you for the update.

While this information is great to hear, the day before a new issue is launching, it would be my hope that there is a KNOWN ISSUE warning posted to the game so that users when they sign in tomorrow AFTER the patch that DOES NOT have the fixes, they will know not to try and use the market. Otherwise, they are going to encounter exactly what we did during Beta, crash and potentially not be able to log back in.

I understand you're just the messenger. I understand completely that the team has been working on the problem. While I appreciate that, it also means that the "head start" for mac people really isn't much of a head start. We will have to wait a week after for the first server fixes to be published before we can use the market.. which is, make no mistake, the cornerstone of issue 21 in the first place. We use it before the fix, we might not be able to start the game up again without having to go in and remove files and wave a magic wand and whatnot to get BACK in.

No, I am not pleased. This should have been caught a lot sooner, and it was reported a lot sooner. While I thank you for updating us on all of this, I'm not going to sit and say "hey a week later after release is just fine with me", because it's not. I'm a subscriber. I pay for the game just like the other PC people who pay for the game. It's not acceptable to feel like a second class citizen and be told "we'll fix it within a week".

I'll be watching for that update within the week...

I would say that is on the individual player. Any sort of refunding/returning policy for mistakes made that way could be easily exploitable, not to mention probably be a nightmare to fix. Personally, I am going to wait to purchase anything, unless I am absolutely sure I am purchasing the right thing.

If the fixes coming later this week work, then we should still have plenty of time left for the Headstart to take advantage of the discounted prices.

While I see your point, I don't think this is on the player. During the new tutorial, Numia instructs players to go to the market and BUY a badge before they proceed to Atlas Park. there isn't a way around that. You either buy the badge and proceed, or you don't buy the badge, miss it, and proceed to Atlas. I do believe consideration is going to have to be given to the "discounts" that people are talking about however.

I totally misread Zwill's post. I had thought we would have access to the market but with the garbled text. I see now we won't have access at all.

What I can't fathom though is why they are setting it up so we have two big downloads in one week? Is it because of the head start?
