Heh. Oh yes. If you use the market for more than 5 minutes, or even use the market at all, you will crash after awhile and not be able to start the client again. It happened in beta for days. Garbled text is NOT the only issue.

for 10.5.8 at least. asked those who it worked for and those it didn't what specific osx they are using. 10.5.7 here and none are working. but there is hope for more folks at least.

I have a rather ... unfortunate ... update to my experiences playing with the updated Cider client on Live this evening.

The first and most important thing was that I was able to log into Virtue just fine and play for several hours straight (I was part of the Galaxy City Badge Tour hosted by The Cape Radio on an ad hoc basis). So the client appears to be (somewhat) stable so far.

The bad news is though ... that I had a Keybinds folder inside of my Transgaming folder alongside by coh and windows folders there. This allowed me to do simple commands like...

/bindloadfile c:/keybinds/*.txt

... so as to load up my bind files, and I had a huge stack of those saved there in that folder. As you might have guessed by the tone of this report ... after the Cider Update, my keybinds folder is simply AWOL, and I haven't been able to do anything to retrieve it from wherever the Cider Update sent it (because it wasn't the Trash).

Needless to say, this is a really MAJOR hassle that the Cider Update killed off my Keybinds folder, since this has **NEVER** been a problem with any other Game Client updates in the past. It basically means that I'm going to have to rebuild all of my Mastermind bind load files (...ooooooogh...) and all of my Kheldian bind load files (...ouchies...) and all of the individually tailored bind load files that put keybind tweaks onto all of my characters (things like the "Jackie Chan Bind" for all of my melee oriented characters) before my characters can become "controllable" again in the way they need to be in order to be playable. THAT is going to consume a rather large chunk of time this week that I had been hoping I could have to spend on playing.

No idea WHY the Cider Update would trash an entire folder like that, when things like the settings default .txt files inside the coh folder didn't get overwritten/trashed too.

OS X 10.7.1 Lion (in case that matters).

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

that's a very good question. Zwillinger's fix was for the beta client and was directed at using the repair tool for the NC Launcher. In all likelihood that's not going to work. There is another forum thread called "What to expect on i21 launch day" with instructions on how to back up what you have.. and then how to proceed with patching it up, that is with the supposition that NC Soft is going to tell you to "delete and reinstall." I don't recommend deleting and reinstalling. Read the posts for "What to expect on i21 launch day" by CuppaManga and take notes. Read the WHOLE thread as there are updates.. then proceed. And of course.. stay off the market til it's patched. It's like during the 50s.. us Mac people shunned! no shopping for us!

Well, the Launcher updated itself, then I was able to update the Live client and the Beta client. No issues that i could see on my end.

It was nice to access the Market, read everything, then log off and then log back on without moving the client or deleting files. I almost felt human!

It is too bad this Beta update is not going to be part of the release of i21. But if it is working now, it should only be a few days till it is released, so the wait won't be too long.

So thanks for keeping us in the loop as much as possible Zwill, but I do have to echo the request for least a few Mac people in the closed Betas of any future release. We can not go through this kind of thing again. Ever.

Hm, I was greeted this morning by an ominous error message saying the launcher couldn't move something properly and the game would need to be reinstalled. Quitting the launcher and restarting, and doing a repair, didn't repeat this error. But I can't check for certain until live comes back up. :/

ETA: Game launches, at least, even if it can't connect. Looks like something just interrupted the download for Test, which completed fine once I did a manual check for updates. And Beta works fine.

Well I opened up my launcher and got the "NC Launcher Update" message. Which I bypassed due to many saying not to do so (and wont until I'm sure it's safe to download). But said I'm fine when I clicked "Check for Updates." Meaning either I'm already updated, or the I21 download hasn't dropped yet. Looks like I'll find out either way when the game goes live this evening (unless the mac experts and/or someone in red tells me it's ok to let the NC Launcher update itself).

Update: Decided to launch game anyway and got the old start-up screen. Looks like I need to download the I21 update anyway. Does the NC Launcher handle this or does the game do so once it becomes available?

The NCLauncher's default is to check for updates every 30 minutes, and will download and apply them automatically. If you go to "NCLauncher-->Settings" (or hit Command+S) you will see an option allowing you to choose for the Launcher to ask you before downloading and/or applying an update.

If I am going to be away from the computer, I usually choose "Automatically download updates, ask before applying." That way, the game does not launch while I am away (That check box is always highlighted on the update status bars). But, the process is half done by the time I come back, so I don't have to wait as long.

Just a heads up though: we don't know when the patch will be ready to download. All we know is that it will be sometime before 4pm Eastern.

Just got off of Ustream, so apologies for not updating prior to this.

There is currently an issue where the launcher is not recognizing OS 10.5 as a supported version. We're working on getting this fix up tonight, as in very soon. IMPORTANT - If you installed a previous version, please uninstall the LAUNCHER ONLY and reinstall the new version when it is live.

I don't plan on leaving tonight until this is resolved, so I'll update you guys when the new version of the mac launcher is available.

At the very least, Zwillinger has been the best Redname during this "Time of Troubles" for Mac players, meaning that he's been doing a better job of communicating with us than any of the other Rednames. So kudos for that Andy.

Doing well on my end; I can foray into the store without having to muck with my prefs or move things around after exiting the client.

I'm on Live on a Macbook Air as I type this, running 10.6.8. Everything appears to be working as intended. Been in marketplace, made purchases, bought more points, went back to game, logged out/back in, everything is fine.

Only three issues I've noted:

1) Marketplace accepted my purchase for more points, gave me credit for it, but then forced me to a "security validation" screen after the transaction. And it wouldn't accept my input (typical security info...mothers maiden, fathers middle, captcha). I tried it twice and even though I know I'm typing info in correctly, it won't accept my validation in the in-game marketplace screen. I logged out of the game and back in...had marketplace access again and made purchases with points. No issues thereafter. Weird.

2) Graphics in Atlas (mainly) and a few other zones suffering from serious "pop in" redraw that wasn't there yesterday before the update. I don't know if my graphics settings have been whacked or not. Tweaking them now to try and improve that but its pretty awful looking right now.

3) Usual tailor bugs of it not recognizing some of my existing costume items...says they are "invalid." Makes me a little askeered of losing stuff so I've not went into tailor yet to try and adjust anything.

Rocket board is cool by the way...but I'm disappointed its like the sexy "Walk" emote and basically turns off all your powers during use. Its a travel power...but just that...only traveling allowed. You can do some aerial tricks on it though

Glad to hear things are working for you Crysys. For reasoning behind the Rocket Board's design, I recommend checking out The Intrepid Informer: Issue #11. It explains everything.

Only had a few minutes to pop in the game this morning before heading off to work, but I was able to access the store and read everything (on OSX 10.5.8). Just glimpsed Atlas Park. Hopefully I'll have some more time later this afternoon once I get home.
