  1. Yes, and pointy ears predate Batman. The point is that Paragon tends to steer very clear of any possible trademark lawsuits. A winged Hermes helmet is likely to get the stink-eye from their lawyers as being too likely to invite IP violation, just like we can't get a pentagonal shield chest pattern like Superman's even if it's blank.

  2. Proper flare-to-the-side jodphurs like this: http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0...vage_large.jpg

The various heraldic patterns (mostly available for shields) on the torsos (50-50, quartered, diagonal, chevron, horizontal band, etc).

    Tommyguns, Lugers, broomstick Mausers.

Dish helmets (a la Jay Garrick Flash, although would have to leave the wings off to avoid trademark issues), leather football helmets.

  3. Normally, it's a nuisance, but the "rapidly look around and shoot what you can" method works. But there's a mission (don't wanna spoiler) where if you're soloing it you STILL face very large groups of Eternal Warriors (with NPC help). Once three or four of them were full-time taunting at me, I literally couldn't attack anything. By the time I'd switch to one and go to launch an attack, the next one would taunt me away.

It probably wouldn't be as bad without Invincibility on (taunting them into taunting me), but it does mean that any attempt at tanking groups like that means you don't get to do much but stand there and be shot at.

Later in the mission, when only being taunted by one or two Hives of Anger at a time, it was hard but doable. I've figured out the key to that particular mission, but the fundamental problem remains: too many simultanous taunts equals unbreakable mez. :/ And that shifts from "challenging" to "might as well change it to a cut scene in which you lose".

  4. So, I get into the first mission of the Magician's arc, soloing, and I run straight into a major fun-killing problem with NPC taunt.

Namely, if you have five or six NPCs all taunting you at the same time, it becomes impossible to attack anyone. As in, I was just mashing buttons on my two ranged attacks and spinning around in circles, and I couldn't get any attack to launch. It was worse than being Held, because there was NOTHING I could do to get out of it. And since I didn't have Assault (Leadership) on that character, none of my powers helped either.

Break Frees need to grant Taunt resistance, otherwise, this whole Infinite Taunt thing guarantees a total lack of enjoyment whenever outnumbered by Taunting NPCs. And that, in turn, means ignoring the new content.

    (ETA: War Mace/Invulnerability Brute)
  5. Would turning off geometry buffers also help with the massive lag I get in any map with see-through surfaces (Pocket D, Arachnos base maps, etc)?

    ---Dave
  6. He's running on a "Hackentosh" Dell machine, actually. Although I suppose he figured out the problem, since he's still playing a month later.

    ---Dave
  7. Hm, what happens to a character whose name gets used for an NPC? Would I have to change the name of my Woofers? I suppose I'd at least get a free name change token, like with a server transfer.

    ---Dave
  8. Awww, adorable mini-Rularuu. I will call it Scootaluu the Stalker.

    ---Dave
  9. Hm. I thought I was subbing for the entire time because I wanted to be able to play any and all of my characters at any level without restrictions.

Look, it does suck to lose out because of a technicality. Hell, it sucks to be promised a soda at the end of a hike and miss out because there wasn't quite enough to go around, too. If you want there to be a special reward for doing something, there'll always be people who deserve it and don't get it...or who get it and don't deserve it.

If you demand perfection in promotions, the only perfection to be found is in not having them at all. That way everyone's equally missing out.

It's a nice little touch, probably convinced a few people to not drop to Premium for a few months, but ultimately I doubt it actually made NCSoft a net profit. I suspect it came out of the advertising budget, much like grocery coupons do.

---Dave, actually has no plans for the Statesman helmet since his only Statesman-homage character has a wolf head.
  10. Is that glowy humanoid thingy the pet, or the costume change emote shrunk down to fit?

    ---Dave
  11. I'm told that in the screen resolution options for the PC version, you can set it to be in windowed mode and it will always start that way, rather than having to play around with hitting command-enter at the right time (else wait until the login screen finishes loading).

This option is not available in the options for Mac, as far as I can tell. Is this one of those unavoidable consequences of the WINE wrapper, or is there some secret thing I can set to always launch in windowed mode without having to reset it every time?

    ---Dave
  12. Fluttershy would love it all the same.

    ---Dave
  13. And now, My Little Banespawn!

    ---Dave
  14. It's a Nemesis plot!

  15. Thanks! I'm just glad they don't have an automatic "archive after N months" policy, so I can just slooooowly add to the thread over the years rather than needing to start a new one when I make some non-screenshot CoH art.

    ---Dave
  16. And now, since being a chibi wasn't ludicrous enough for tiny hulking robot Enforcer 1003, I present Enhorser 1003!

    ---Dave
  17. Will the tokens be character-locked, or can you shuffle them around so that you earn them across all your toons but send them to your main crafter?

    ---Dave
  18. I definitely like these changes to AS. I have four Stalkers, all stalled out at various levels 30 and below, because they're not very survivable as soloists at higher levels (compared to Scrappers or Brutes)...and because I feel like I'm leeching when I team on a Stalker. Sure, I get off one good alpha, but then it's like I'm a poorly optimized Scrapper...and if the team is moving quickly, I might not ever get an AS off. I'd rather switch over to a Brute and feel like I'm contributing. The new changes would, I think, let me team with a clearer conscience.

For whatever that means on a villain.

  19. Hm, I was greeted this morning by an ominous error message saying the launcher couldn't move something properly and the game would need to be reinstalled. Quitting the launcher and restarting, and doing a repair, didn't repeat this error. But I can't check for certain until live comes back up. :/

    ---Dave

ETA: Game launches, at least, even if it can't connect. Looks like something just interrupted the download for Test, which completed fine once I did a manual check for updates. And Beta works fine.
  20. Xinner, most of the posts on this page and the one before are fixes for that problem.

    ---Dave
  21. Won't work. The old launcher won't be allowed to connect, a friend tried that.

    ---Dave
  22. Plainguy, by "restarting the client" do you mean the launcher? Because restarting the launcher worked for me (OS10.6.8), it had to patch itself before it could properly patch the game.

    ---Dave
  23. Okay, quitting the launcher and restarting it caused it to patch itself, which let it patch Cider correctly, I can get in now.
