Display stays asleep after quitting CoH

Anyone have this issue? I quit CoH, and the display goes into sleep mode and stays there, forcing a reboot...

Running Snow Leopard...

Which Mac do you have? iMac, laptop, or desktop that has a separate display?

If the display is in sleep mode but the computer is alive (sometimes difficult to determine), and you have a Mac that supports it, you can try to put the computer to sleep explicitly (eg, using an iMac's power button, closing laptop lid), and then waking it up again. I've seen that work to awaken a display on a laptop after disconnecting a second display.

Yeah, I've seen that, but mostly on older versions of OSX, like Tiger. Not so much on Snow Leopard and Lion. And mostly after first putting the laptop to sleep and then disconnecting the external display.

I haven't played a lot of CoH on Snow Leopard, but I can't say I've seen anything like this on there.

That can be one of two things, and I've experienced both in the past, and both are pretty bad news.

1. Your OS is having kernel panics.

2. Your OS is having kernel panics because the graphics processor is failing.

1 is easily solved by repairing disk permissions and doing a reinstall of Snow Leopard. 2 is solved by a logic board replacement.

I'd suggest taking your mac to a Genius Bar and asking them to run a video card test just to be safe. If that comes back clean, reinstall the OS.

Depending on which model you have, Apple has a repair extension program for symptoms similar to those you describe, when it involves a defective video processor. Call Apple or visit an Apple Store genius bar for more info on that.

Otherwise Nalrok covered most of the rest, except for the possibility of bad RAM - did you upgrade it?

He's running on a "Hackentosh" Dell machine, actually. Although I suppose he figured out the problem, since he's still playing a month later.

Sorry for not getting back here...The problem went away...it had something to do with being in full screen mode, but whatever has cleared up.
