Female Only Server
See, I would have figured it was because the current mid 30's crowd was also the group that included the young kids with the old NES.

Personally I tend to assume that everyone I 'meet' on the internet is some sort of strage gender-neutral person until I physically see them in real life. I've known far too many honestly effeminate guys, honestly 'masculine' (in conversational style at least) girls, guys pretending to be flirty girls to get free stuff, and girls pretending to be guys to 'fit in' to really trust either what anyone 'says' they are or to make assumptions based on how they 'act'.

Dammit. I knew I should have asked for a picture reference.
I actually had a friend who's parents bought them an Atari Jaguar actually. I was generally torn between being jealous of his parents actually getting it for him and being confused over why he would have asked for it in the first place.

So just because I want RPers to be looked at as people and not 'in-game sexually overactive and/or deviant', I'm being 'defensive'? Maybe in the sense that I'm 'defending' the (huge) portion of RPers who have no interest in putting smut in their RP sessions, and don't confuse OOC with IC, yeah.
We were using teamspeak for a Master of Keys Run. I normally don't go out of my way to tell my gender, but I thought we had good players but I kept getting harassed. You can't ignore someone when you need them to complete something.
I play the game for fun, and shouldn't have to worry about people living in their mothers basement or 13 year old boys who should be in school.
You don't "need" any one(s) person to complete anything in this game. And if their personality is making things harder for one or more other members of the group, they're not necessary no matter what kind of character they bring.
If whoever was in charge of the run wasn't willing to kick or mute people who harassed you, your problem is with THEM. You don't need to talk on teamspeak to get instructions. A good leader would have muted everyone who wasn't a trusted member and just let them listen.

True story. You can get the Master badges without teamspeak.

I hate getting harassed in game, and so I wish they would create a female only server. They have female only gyms for a reason. An online video game is not a dating site.
If we can have VIP servers please make one female only. Thanks. |
When I get advances ingame I politely rebuff them.
If they insist I report them for harrassment and /gignore.
I can chat ingame with my female friends if I'd like to...or with all my friends. My current best friend from the game is male and we chat offline all the time.
I get where you are going with the gym analogy, but unless someone tracks us through slips of information/IP/address snooping, which is far beyond the scope of NC Soft's moderation, we still control our own environments.
Also, not to take this TOO far afield but I developped friendships with a number of gay women over the past 10 years (they shared an interest with me so we arranged irl meetings in a safeish zone around the theme, in Baltimore Comic Con years ago) and the overriding theme around us was that we welcomed males but made it abundantly clear that advances were unwelcome - either from disinterest or safety standpoints. As Philly expounded, harassment is quite possible and likely from a same sex enclave and is equally as uncomfortable.
There are female only channels ingame. I know Gender Poison on Champion Server used to run one (still does?) and had character meetings too. I thought it was great but had too many channels already and didn't keep up with that group for a while.
Also, Golden Girl, I've vacillated a while in between putting you on ignore or not but you aren't helping yourself with comments in this thread.
P.S. Sinister Dirge is eminently correct in his comment about "check outs".

And who do you recommend that women send picture verification to for access to this oh so special server? Would picture verification be enough? How about a picture while holding your state ID, social security card, and the credit card you use for your NCSoft account, just to be sure?
And oh, boy, gender squabbling. I'll get the popcorn.

If they have an issue with that, tell them via the game, you were not comfortable with being on team speak, and felt like you were being harassed.
If they harass you about it in game, now you have a record of it and can pass it on to the mods. Make sure you've got chat logging on as it will get everything. Global and Character tells will have their own separate text files.
You must remember that in that situation you still had a choice to leave Team Speak and should have taken that choice, for your own comfort level if nothing else. No matter how "obligated" you may have felt to be on team speak, it isn't required.

I remember an incident that happened to someone I know who was asked to join an all female SG based solely on his avatar on Victory Server, and the leader (a female) thought all the female avatars she invited were females in RL.
Imagine her suprise when she found out she had invited males (though still thought he was female).

In This Thread: females (and/or female characters) hit on or harassed while playing CoX.
Not In This Thread: RPers being criminalized, dehumanized, or ostracized.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Make a server only female, there will only be males playing on it.
I rarely have problems with being harrassed by guys when I play, and those that do, I put on ignore/report. Course I probably don't get a lot of people messing with me because 90% of my toons are male toons.

The fact that they might have meant real-life gender really never crossed my mind until now.. They certainly did not make it clear in their ads.
Here's a question; How do you know it's not females harassing you?
Looks like never teaming up with strangers is payin' off once again.
Without ever saying what gender I the player am, when I was on Victory I got the following tells "You're my girlfriend now" "Will you be my girlfriend" "You're trying to steal my boyfriend/husband."
And that was with nothing more than a female character, and saying hi, and for teaming with someone multiple times (global friended) "Hey how's it going." "Hey want to team."
My point. This is the internet. And people on the internet can be dumb
To the OP: First rule. Never tell anyone if you're female or male. If you do tell, (and this goes for guys as well) you may have to learn to use global ignore.
