Female Only Server

As has been mentioned, should someone be harassing you in game, report them. Harassment knows no sexual boundary. Reporting someone harassing you will more then likely save someone else from being harassed by the same individual. /ignore is also a great early tool to use.

I want a server for people who's name is Erik. Because I feel harassed by people who call me Eric because that's the way most people spell that name.

While you're at it. I also want all those Erik's to be able to do a Russian accent while wearing a fedora and watching a Mad Dog McCree walkthrough.

Fixed, so as not to imply sweeping generalizations.

no, its to petition them because harrassment is against the eula.

I like rsclark's response, mostly because it was close to the response I was going to give.

To make the point I'll use an exaggeration. There's a difference between being a female gamer... and being a SucideGirl. No I'm not linking the site. If you don't know what it is, I'm not going to explain it.

In the same way, there is a difference between not telling somebody your gender, and showing your gender off.

I seriously have to ask a question: Short of intentional "E.R.P." and I'll put quotes on that, why exactly would anybody go around telling people something to the effect of "I have Bewbs in Real Life!"? The flip side of that coin can be asked as well: Why exactly would anybody go around telling people something to the effect of "I have 12inch long... you know what goes here"

If you want to tell somebody your gender, hey, that's fine. That's your choice.

And yes, I am intentionally avoiding the elephant in the corner waving the flag that says "Video Games Dominated by Teenagers and Young Adults"

I agree with this. Most problems caused by gender are because people on both sides of the problem choose to make an issue out of gender. Some people in this game are males, some are females which one a person is only matters if you allow it to matter.

If someone is harassing you about anything the correct response is to petition them and then put them on ignore doing anything else will either muddy the waters when the GM reviews the petition or, worse, encourage further harassment.

Who's to say it's the "other" gender? They're just as much a faceless, genderless entity in game as the person being harassed. As such, it's no different a situation than any other form of in-game harassment and should be treated accordingly.

It's not clear that they need to hide who they are.

I might be out of line here so feel free to put me in check if that's the case... But does the OP strike anyone else as someone who goes out of their way to let everyone know that they are female because they enjoy the attention?

This thread is case & point. I find it hard to believe that this is actually something that anyone realistically feels should be implemented. I'm willing to bet that the OP's in game behavior is in the same vein which could cause a combination of A.) Over-reaction to trivial things for attention ("Your outfit is pretty!" "STOP HARASSING ME!") or a tendency to make underdressed female characters and hang out in Pocket D a lot ("I'll get those pigs now...")

I could also just be over thinking it... But that's really the impression this is leaving for me.

This is a question I'd like to see answered, as well. Because most of the answers to it that I can think of make a female-only server pointless.

People bring it up quite often when asking others on the team about themselves.

How often does your real gender come up in game?

I've had it come up in conversation before, but not enough that I can't pug.

Do you join every group and go "Oh and I'm a real woman!'?

If you do people are bound to get the idea you wanted them to know that for a reason.

I don't wear low cut shirts because I don't want to be looked at, you shouldn't make your gender a point unless you want attention based on it.

I haven't run into an A/S/L'er around here since the days of PDP. Which was also the last time I saw anyone ask others about themselves as a player. As I recall, my reply was 99/X/Ice Station Zebra.

I've never run into anyone who has asked my real gender in ages. Of course, as a male, I'm not the best example.

But I know quite a few females who play this game, and they never seem to have problems with harassment. I agree that yes, harassment based on gender is wrong.

However, over the internet, it's much easier to avoid, and it would be impossible to enforce a Gendered server anyway.

This... is a joke post, right?

Because this is litterally the most ridiculous suggestion I have ever seen. The game has /ignore and /petition for a reason.

I run a fair few female characters and in seven years haven't once been asked my gender, or received gender-based attention. I feel terribly unloved.

I'm a guy, but I play a lot of female characters. Ive only had a few people get obnoxious with flirting, most people back off when I tell them I'm cross-dressing, but if that doesnt deter them, I find that casually mentioning that I'm going as Jack in Irons for Halloween IRL usually does the trick.

Protip - if a player you haven't been teaming with for a while asks about yourself, do not answer. There's a slim chance the player may just be overly social and forward, and a rather much bigger chance that the player is fishing. If I can team and chat with a person for a full year without ever learning if the person is a man or a woman, your team-mate can do without knowing your gender for the next 30 minutes or so. If he can't, well... Alarm bells.

i cant help but notice you are ignoring responses that deal with the correctly prescribed remedies and only fixating on an ancillary part of the discussion.

Yes, that's basically what she always does.

You don't read enough suggestions.

What IS wrong with the current remedies available?

I have been thinking that some of the people I think are female may not be. Most of the genders I "know" come from context. But, talking about your boyfriend doesn't necessarily mean that you're a female, does it?
