I have actually teamed with a few people who did essentially this.

I was PUG-ing with a team that was somewhat quiet, save for a chatty character. She said something to the effect of, "you guys are quiet, as a girl (for real) I am naturally more talkative, I guess". When she first joined the team, she said "hi team, thanks for the invite. I'm a woman, by the way". A few moments after the "talkative" comment, she asked, "any other real girls, like me, on the team?"

She said a handful of other comments I don't recall indicating that she was, in fact, a real-life woman, until someone finally said, "everyone stop." We did. They said, "Alright, real woman, now that you have the undivided attention you obviously seek... tell us how you would like us to fawn all over the fact that we're in the presence of an actual female."

Thank you, Champion.

Welcome to the *essence* of Golden Girl's posting. Which is why she's been on ignore for quite a while.

As far as in-game... yeah, I can't think of the last time I had anyone ask gender, and I play characters of both. The times it has come up (and I think it's been maybe... three? times since I started playing,) the conversation has typically gone like this:

Person: "r u a boy or girl?"
Me: "Yes."
Person: "Huh?" (Or sometimes "Lol, ok.")

The only time I've had to make a *point* about gender was on my first 50 (character was female.) The people I was playing with long-term on this and getting to know fairly well had apparently... well, forgotten (even though I'd talked about my wife (at the time) some time earlier,) which led to two rather... awkward conversations. (Well, one awkward, one "lol, I don't believe I forgot that - you'd better remind him, though.") I didn't "play the character as a girl," I was just consistent enough with the character that they got used to her "personality" and had managed to forget it wasn't *me.* (But the character did actually do some good in other ways.)

This is a question to which professional academicians and sociologists have devoted entire careers without coming up with a satisfactory answer. It's hardly a fair one to pose in a discussion on the fan website of a video game.

That you seem to think that females wont harass other females

...priceless.

which tends to be the approach I take in life in general.

I dont go around broadcasting perosnal infomation, but if theres an annecdotal story about my boyfriend that fits the situation I will nearly always tell it, because its just as normal for me to as a woman would about her boyfriend or girlfriend.

it doe shave a special levity in online games, new clan members when I played counterstrike were often very... confused that a homosexual just took all their heads with his Para Machine gun from across the map...

In MMOs it just creates a funny conversation path so familiar I barely need to experience it, but honestly, its worth the sharing personal information a bit just for a giggle, and lets be honest, I'm the guy that could be using his real name as part of his pseduonym...

to OP and on topicish;

How soon after gender locked servers do we get ethnicity locked servers, just so people arnt afraid of getting racial abuse, infact, lets just go one step further, there shall be the @Mega Jamie sever, and I shall choose who is allowed on that and therefore control every powwible interaction I may possible have.

Sure it would be a fairly low density server, but atleast I wouldn't have to taddle on anyone with the /report tool.

So much wrong that it's almost funny.

Bingo!

I have played on every server, I've only experienced what they've described on Virtue when I've rolled female characters. It's not the majority, I know good RPers, but it does happen and it's disgusting.

If it wouldn't have been modded, I'd call shenanigans because I got modded when I posted it a few months ago.

Same goes for any other "sexy" or "alluring" clothing.

Not that I think you would get too offended if someone looked (not leered) at you appreciatively, LISAR

Yes, occasionally, gender will come up in conversations. But, I can literally count the number of times, on one hand, I've had it come up for me in the 7 years I've been here.

It still is, but the market has expanded to the mid 30's crowd, mainly because of the Wii if I'm not mistaken.

Hilarious offtopic angryface post not defensive enough. 7/10.

Needs larger chip on shoulder.

Perhaps the question was asked because the prior poster has never seen ERP-tagged players on any other server.

Or perhaps, after years and years of playing on other servers and never *once* being hit upon, the prior poster gets hit upon while playing on Virtue. Perhaps quite regularly. Perhaps in spite of not being ERP-tagged.

But these are just speculations founded upon my own experiences.

Y'know, it's weird. I've been playing (with a few fairly long gaps) since the late spring of 2004; I play almost exclusively on Virtue; and I have a number of female characters - and yet I can't remember such a thing happening to me even once.

Looks like never teaming up with strangers is payin' off once again.

So even when we're wearing something to help us keep cool, we're still asking for it?

There is a difference between something to keep you cool, and something that shows off what you have.

Besides, it's a dumb comment that doesn't need responding to. Guys will check out anything, even she is wearing something akin to a michelin man parka.

My experiences were more like hit n' runs because I solo'd for the most part and would get some rather "ugh" worthy remarks...

Only ever had someone ask a/s/l one time. It was during a visit to Virtue server earlier this year and I was on a female character which is kind of a rarity for me. This is mostly from memory. Name has been changed to protect the idiot.

iFail: Hey you look pretty nice.
Me: Thanks I worked for a while on this costume.
iFail: a/s/l?
Me: Derivative of 26X+105 / XY / 36.438664 -116.872627
iFail: XY? are you sure not XXX?
Me: ...
iFail: wanna cyber?
Me: No I prefer my sexual encounters face to face. I gave you my location in GPS coordinates. Just plug them into a GPS and follow the route it gives you. I'll be waiting. This time I think I'll wear the French Maid outfit.
iFail: Holy **** ive got to go to the store.

About 30 minutes later...

iFail: wt* it says your in the middle of death valley
Me: You just wasted money on a gps didn't you?
iFail: long string of expletives deleted
Me: Let me spell it out for you Derivative of 26x + 105 is 26 years old, XY is my chromosomes guys have a Y chromosome, and as you just found out the coordinates I gave you are in Death Valley. You could have figured this out if you weren't typing with one hand.
iFail: another long string of expletives followed by "you owe me the money i spent on this gps"
Me: No I don't. You just paid a stupid tax because you didn't take the time to figure out if I was being truthful about my location to a random stranger on the internet. Also I wasn't truthful about the French Maid outfit. Its actually an Oscar the Grouch costume.
iFail: wut?
Me: Exactly.
/gignore iFail

So to the knuckle-draggers comfortable clothing = promiscuous?

Fixed that for ya. Also just because a women has no right to dictate your reaction doesnt mean polite society can't ostracize you for it.

See, I would have figured it was because the current mid 30's crowd was also the group that included the young kids with the old NES, the teens with the playstation, and the college kids playing EQ and such. Not because they finally discovered that 'new fangled' gaming device called the Wii. Though to be truthful I think that's more the early side of the mid 30's than not.

Yeah, I think you're right about that. The unusual gaming demographic the Wii is pulling in is people like my mom, who's 58 and opted out of home video gaming when, at 22, she didn't see the point of Pong.
