One of the things I'll miss most about these forums is seeing this old chestnut trotted out. *sniff* Good times...

Quote:There's also the interface changes they need to add to allow for the user to enter the customization. I have heard from Devs at past conventions/meet and greets that programmer time is the most precious resource they have, and changes to the interface eat up a lot of that time.I'm not sure there was a technical reason other than "It took a butt-ton of effort to rework all of the regular powers so they could be customized, to add Pool/Ancillary/Patron power customization would be a double butt-ton, and we really wanted to get 'regular' power customization out first".
They could have been working on this in the background for a few years and they're finally done.
For the pools, though, I also have a suspicion that they wanted to do this revamp for a while now, and they waited to release both them and the customization together. -
Quote:There was a good amount of discussion in the room that there would be an "accelerate metabolism" effect for this armor that should extend to teammates. I am not sure there was a final consensus on this one - player-only of course would be stronger. I know the players were pushing the for ally inclusionI'm thrilled to get new armors actually. I think the unique armors set CoX apart from competitors. Lots of games have unusual attack types, but CoX sits nearly alone in having a choice of unusual armors.
I have long wanted to see a Gravity Blast set, though. Telekinesis being one of the core powers seen in comics, and not particularly well represented by Psi Blast.
PS I had been at the Pummit I would have thrown in that an armor whose characteristics extend to nearby team members would be new ground. Only Shield has that right now. Why not give teammates some +Recharge when you are around (e.g. +10% Recharge to self and allies, as opposed to +20% Recharge for self only in a few existing sets)? -
Quote:I think one thing that is easy to forget among the choices arrived at during these panels are just how many of the more expected or even "better" ideas may already be in progress or have already been investigated and ruled out.Well, you have to remember the forums aren't the only avenue to speak about the game or even are the majority when it comes to thoughts or ideas.
*Snip*
I threw in Magnetism control for a powerset idea. Since that is such an iconic power in comics I have to believe it has already been checked out and is either on the way or just won't happen. That's kind of why I crossed my name out - I didn't want to walk up to a mic to say "Er, yeah, like every comic universe out there has one or several of these dudes - trowin' metal is kinda cool!"
If you look at the number of powersets actually getting put into the game lately, these guys (Paragon) are cranking! And if this many sets are actually getting made, how many others are in the pipeline, or did not pass initial scrutiny?
I do have to say I was genuinely disappointed with the costume set choice we ended up with. We have the Lost and Freakshow. Those 2 groups as NPC packs would give us a significant portion of what was discussed at the panel.
I am choosing to believe that Pulp / Noir was not picked because it is already on a schedule. I have absolutely no proof of this, but it will make me feel better if I believe it. The Post-Apoc panel was the first one in all of the cons/summits I have attended where I lost all interest in the subject matter. -
Quote:The original suggestion was just "alien shoulder pet." David drew it as a brain slug - I think as someone in the crowd shouted that out later.
If I had to guess that was probably sort of a joke and never was meant to be taken seriously. Sadly it would also be a complete ripoff from at least Futurama so that's probably enough of a reason why it won't happen.
Hopefully the Futurama reference was not the reason the shoulder pets were abandoned. I thought I remembered Clockwork stating that there were clipping problems with the pets, but I could not find that post. No doubt it is my faulty brain. -
Given the number of weapon sets we have, they could probably hire a dev for one year who just cranked out weapon sets - and that dev could pay for themselves. There could be a bunch of new models plus the in-game models that are not yet available to players.

Quote:Help me out on this one: Boot cut is bad because?Evisu went out of style years ago, as did Ed Hardy. Mind you the jeans are bootcut to begin with so talking about style seems a bit pointless. Regardless, my point was that different fades/washes of jeans would grant greater player utility than a bunch of silly patterns. If you disagree with that click quote and explain why.
I am genuinely curious, as I have never seen anything critical about the cut of a jean in anything I have read. -
Quote:Not sure if you got an answer to this later in the thread or not, but I figured I would post something since I am reading now.Figures they wouldn't ustream the 3 panels most people are actually interested in knowing about.
One of the two rooms used for these panels was TINY. It filled up really fast and had to turn people away. I doubt there would have been room for the recording equipment in it.
I sat at a table with some of the devs and I got the impression that they were quite surprised just how small that one room was. -
Give them time, my son. For they will come, cheeks red end eyes tearing, to regale us with their tales of facial pain.

Quote:Thanks for the infoHey Hippeh,
Brutes do just fine at agro management with a 6 slotted taunt and your taunt aura. I run a SS/Shield brute that runs just as good as most tanks with no problems. Just because something isn't a tank doesn't mean it can't hold agro. Don't discount the brutes.
EzENot really discounting Brutes, I just have no idea how they maintain aggro compared to tanks. I've not really played a brute where I had to care about it - we had a SS/shield brute team that could just jump in and smash.
-
Quote:I have a shield/mace at 50 but I dunno, I view it as "meh." I am sure with some IOs it could be decent. I guess I just don't like the dude enough. As far as hippy's original post...
If you are considering making a new character I would honestly avoid an invuln tank for the new high level content.
As mp stated invuln is a typed def set. It also has a psi hole which is pretty common in high level content. Shield maybe a better way to go.
Id also say perhaps the best 'tank' for a keyes maybe a scrapper or a brute. Auto hit powers are auto hit. Damage that is a percent of your total hp means its just that much harder to have a 'healer' refill your green bar. Stacked destinys means anyone can be a soft and hard cap.
Keyes was just a reminder really on the fact that I have no tank to bring if we are short one. This can even go for stuff like LRSF or STF.
I wanted to make a new StJ toon but since I did shield I was looking for something else. I could do Willpower, but I have taken a couple up to the 40s and I seem a bit bored by it or something.
I could always go Brute with this guy, but if I am going to care more about aggro management and being a meat shield I feel like I may as well go tank. Unless Brutes hold aggro fine with a decent aura and taunt. I dunno, never really played one before. -
I do want a tank that can do anything, really, but repeated Keyes runs just drove the point home that I cannot contribute a tank to anything.
-
So, I am feeling guilty on Keyes runs because I do not have a tank that can help drag AM's lousy *** from terminal to terminal. As a result, I am toying with making a tank. And leveling it and all that.
But, I know absolutely nothing about invuln. Bug helped me lots, but then I tried to build something on my own. I am not sure I like it
I kept this post here because I only care what Victory people think!
OK, tell me to L2P!

You aren't supposed to really, but it is a good choice if you have:
1. A name you want to save - everything is open when the lights turn on for that server
2. People on other servers you want to team with more - this can get them in one place
3. You would really be bothered by encountering free players
I personally am not going to transfer anyone there. You really are starting over. No SG transfers, base transfers, etc.. It really does seem like a server created so people who are very angry with free players roaming around can go and hide. I have not talked to anyone in game who is moving characters, other than some that are barely-played so they can make more alts on Vic. -
I played beam on a Corruptor to about 12 on beta, and I have to say even at the lowbie levels Scourge is quite nice. I can only imagine how nice it becomes once you get more attacks.
Of course, I paired it with Poison, so no idea if the AOE debuffy goodness of traps would end up being > scourge at the end.
Disintegration means that beam has a good number of DoT effects. Not sure if that makes scourge even deadlier than normal or not. The disintegration spread may mean you get a lot more changes for scourge than on a single-target set. -
I wonder, was the problem with the Mac client and the store only an issue for people rolling new characters and trying to get out of the tutorial? As far as I know, people running the Mac client can't access the store at all - or at least not without doing some workarounds.

Quote:The heavies certainly did help me out on my heal badges as well. But now, sadly, no more healsYou slacker, you. I got all of my pillboxes back then and I did it the hard way. I didn't even take enemy pillboxes, which were easier. I only took out the neutral pillboxes. Because.... they gave crazy big rewards. And I did a lot of them during off hours on a Double XP Weekend.
Plus, I was working on the healing badges with my scrapper. I would set the Heavy to take out the pillboxes and I would stand out of the line of fire and do nothing but use Aid Other on the Heavy.
tl;dr version: GRIND IT OUT!
Really, I have found that a given heavy lasts for maybe two pillboxes tops. One could just take heavy, kill the 2 pills, then grab a new one. Not really the most efficient farming of the badge, but the "lewt" from a pill is, as you said, not too bad.
SB does help those heavies get around better, but not like it used to. Farming in RV with a kin really was a great way to get some nice stuff on a non-farming toon back in the day. :/ -
Quote:He is trying to find the perfect pantsless outfit. He should make a fashionably late entrance soon!I'm here, only seen two people with victory on the namebadges and they aren't anyone I think I've ever seen in game.
The chicken is freakin tasty, I can't stop eating the skewers. Kinda sad not having anyone to talk to that I "know". Still, the random conversations I hop into are interesting.
Has not seen coz. -
Quote:I am pretty sure that is just how it is supposed to work. I have not been able to determine with certainly how the scoring works, but it seems if you do not get enough "hits" on the giant guy, you need to stay for another cycle. It's either that or you have not killed enough of the shivans before the giant appears, so you are not flagged as being able to "move on." So, you need to repeat the cycle to get enough kills.I think the new tutorial is great, but I can see what you are saying about the shivian stuff. For me the most confusing part is when you are fighting the big guy and the group with other people. I was not totally sure what my individual progress was. Like for example, i zoned into that area and there were others in the area. it said something "8/15 shivian destroyed" so i helped kill the rest then went through with killing the big guy...but i had to stay around for another cycle cause it did not register that i had killed the individual shivian...is that a bug or am i just confused as to how it works?
But you are right, it is fairly confusing. Your status meter for how many you have to get rid of disappears when the giant emerges. But you do not get any indication that you will need to go again. It would be nice if they had something that tells you that.
I dunno, maybe I am a bit old school, but I like things spelled out at the beginning of games - hell, I will even read the manual if there is one. But maybe a lot more gamers prefer to learn by smashing things - in which case this tutorial is pretty good. -
Quote:I am not sure if it is 50/50, but there are certainly many detractors to the current tutorial. I would count myself as one of them.I was under the impression that the people who liked or disliked it was roughly 50/50 in percentage but I could easily be wrong. I feel that Precinct 5 is a vastly superior tutorial as far as actually being a tutorial is concerned. I feel that taking a full 20 levels to learn basics is poor design. Then again, I also have a different thought process than most so I guess a bunch of flashiness is better.
I feel like it is too short. They could make it a little bit longer and include some more of the basics. Not IOs - those can come later. It has been a while since I played through it, but I do remember thinking that things were missing. IIRC, they don't explain the "con colors" in the tutorial.
One thing that had me scratching my head in the tutorial as something that could be "bad" is targeting and the shivans. The shivans appear out of the ground like zombies - so you cannot target them until they are fully "emerged." Well, if someone is tabbing or clicking like mad, and aren't aware of the "targeting delay," they could very well think the game's targeting is really bad. Hopefully that does not happen, but I remember thinking it to myself as I played through.
The "end boss" looks impressive but that to me is almost all outweighed by the hassles of targeting a giant foe in this game. Hopefully tab targeting works for it. I have not tried again after the last patch.
I know what they were shooting for with this tutorial. Other games had complaints that the tutorial took too long to exit. So, Paragon said "We'll make it short!" But yeah, a bit too short IMO. They could easily have added another encounter or two and still had it be plenty short so people did not feel they were "stuck" in a training mission. -
Coz, I will go if you get me drunk. Not just buzzed, but flat-out wasted. You got that kind of cash? :P

Quote:The scrapper IO is a 20% bonus to the existing percentage to crit right now. Is it 5%? If so, it is another 20% of the 5%.Not sure what to think of those AT enhancements. The Scrapper one seems really strong (20% extra chance to all crits, or just in that one power) for an already strong AT. Seems odd that they are going there when the VEAT one is so obviously (we don't want to make this over the top AT even more crazy strong).
So it is not stupidly overpowered.
Oh, and Chad is right. Street Justice is the Bee's Knees. With savory awesomesauce mixed in.
Also the First Ward arcs are fun to play. You may outlevel them if you run with a team over 4 people, but those mishes would scale to a fun, ridiculous level at x8
New sewer trial, also very nice for early leveling.
I have liked most things I have seen in the beta. Love the Underground trial.
