OMG I need help!
Beam/Traps.. no idea. Never played traps.
StJ/Inv brute. Resistance and Defense is so much better than only defense, plus you get a self-heal in invuln.
heres how you solve this problem..............................make all of them lol
then after you have played each to say lvl 30 make a decision about what you want to keep or delete
Easy Peasy. Corruptor and Scrapper.
Corruptor because you'll never regret doing more damage.
Scrapper because I don't really like Brutes.
Agua Man lvl 48 Water/Electric Blaster
"To die hating NCSoft for shutting down City of Heroes, that was Freedom."
I played beam on a Corruptor to about 12 on beta, and I have to say even at the lowbie levels Scourge is quite nice. I can only imagine how nice it becomes once you get more attacks.
Of course, I paired it with Poison, so no idea if the AOE debuffy goodness of traps would end up being > scourge at the end.
Disintegration means that beam has a good number of DoT effects. Not sure if that makes scourge even deadlier than normal or not. The disintegration spread may mean you get a lot more changes for scourge than on a single-target set.
Also in a quandry - but I add... Am I supposed to transfer a toon to exhaulted? What is the general feeling about this new server?
205723: A Different DESTINY
When Soldiers of Arachnos got their names added to the Destiny List, Longbow managed to get a copy of the list and began rounding villains up. But one name on the list shocked them...
You aren't supposed to really, but it is a good choice if you have:
1. A name you want to save - everything is open when the lights turn on for that server
2. People on other servers you want to team with more - this can get them in one place
3. You would really be bothered by encountering free players
I personally am not going to transfer anyone there. You really are starting over. No SG transfers, base transfers, etc.. It really does seem like a server created so people who are very angry with free players roaming around can go and hide. I have not talked to anyone in game who is moving characters, other than some that are barely-played so they can make more alts on Vic.
I really like my Traps Corr. I went Dual Pistols which is crappy but I hear Fire/Traps is pretty crazy, at least that's what a certain former player used to say...
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!
168760: A Death in the Gish. 3 missions, 1-14. Easy to solo.
Infinity Villains
Champion, Pinnacle, Virtue Heroes
None of this was helpful
I have a pistols/traps, and I just can't get into pistols. I want to...but nothing about it speaks to me. I <3 traps though. And it fits the theme. I know I'll like the combo, just can't forsee if the scourge/decent debuffs will out weigh the solo damage bonus/team endurance savings/better debuffs.
I'll have more time to contemplate the justice combo though. They also need to change the name to street brawling or something else. Street Justice makes me envision a dude with guns and big ole knives to back them up.

If you team more, stronger debuffs would be better. The extra damage you get from scourge is gonna be a lot smaller, relatively, than extra damage for everyone on your team via debuffs.
If you're gonna solo more, I'd go with the Corr version--after all, debuffs are only as good as the attacks that follow them.

Beam and Traps - Defender or Corruptor version!?!??!?!?!?! I got some pros and cons for each, but I just can't commit yet. Street Justice - SR scrapper or Invuln Brute flavor?!?!?!?!?!?! I don't think Justice has the same pitfalls as Kinetic melee for Brutes (which I'm slogging through now). I could very well do both at some point, but I want the full POW! BAM! now (when it's available). I'm so distraught |
I know it's not a choice, but I would go SJ - SR brute. Then again I'm pretty bias for brutes. But take the brute, because they rock.

Street Justice is still a month or so out, but I had a helluva lot of fun with my Street Justice/Energy Aura Scrapper while he was available in beta. Got him up to 26 solo (got a level bump from 18 to 20 so I could move on to First Ward after the Shining Stars extended training arcs). That new +Recharge aura really makes the fists (and knees to the junk) fly.

I did Beam/Time Corr for testing; Time is going to be put on a Troller (absolutely silly how overpowered the combo I have for that was in a very short time).
Already have an EA Brute that was rough going for awhile, and then graphics changes made him unplayable (on the old computer), so will be re-testing him in a bit after launch. *IF* the changes are all that and a bag of chips, I might forgo SJ/SR as a scrapper altogether. SR and Invuln are the only two I didn't finish because they just bored me so much, but this was years ago and never got back to retrying.
I think I am leaning towards the Corr version for beam. It'll be team mostly, but everything I have eventually solos random stuff anyway.

Corruptor and the SJ/Invuln brute. SR is fun, I used to love it. But I just think to myself... why be SR when you could be shield and have resistance and +hp as well. Although the nice thing about SR on a brute is the taunt aura.. that is kind of fun.

Also not sure about Def or Corr for Beam+Traps. I might run the Mids numbers before deciding.

Hitting the defense soft cap for at least one position or damage type will probably be easier on a defender as well.

I will offer this tid bit to Voodoo; if you are leaning towards Invulnerable, I find Invincibility to be the most reliable taunt aura. This will making maintaining aggro and Fury much easier. I consider this a slight advantage of Invulnerable Brutes over Invulnerable scrappers (this also factors Brutes inherent HP).

Is Beam knock down or knock back? If knock back, it could be extremely annoying pairing it with traps.
Don't mess with Texas!

Beam doesn't have much, but what it is is Knockdown. Think just three powers have it in there. The first two tier powers, and the narrow cone like Piercing Rounds from Dual Pistols.
Probably some info around about Street Justice on the beta forums, since it was on there for awhile. It's kind of like Beam in that it does quite well at ST damage, and okay at AOE. Basically, it has combo moves that move a counter up by 1 every time you use them. Then you have finishing moves that do more damage and secondary effects the more combo points you have (capping out at 3... so 2 ups your damage some, but 3 does the most).
It's a great set. I had a lot of fun with it before they took it out of beta. No brainer buy there, if you like melee ATs.
