  2. Falling back is awesome!!! Boo hiss to spring forward.
  3. Made a new level 1 sonic/toxic blaster (I know, hax) at the local hospital with MP :-)
  4. If we did it wasn't on her birthday
  5. To my dear wife, Madame Pistacio,

Thinking about these "Happy Birthday" posts over the years makes me sad thinking this will be the last one I post to you for City of Heroes. But I also remember all the great times I've had with you and how much you've done for so many. For the Victory community. For all the servers.

And I'm happy knowing that I and several others will have the good fortune to carry our connections with you well past when the servers shut down and the forums go offline.

Happy birthday, to my generous, caring, loving wife. Wishing you many more!

    Love always,

    - MP

The first time I entered an Oranbega mission, I took about a dozen screen shots! I had to stop and tab out (I played only in full screen back then), find out how to take screenshots, and then tab back in and take a bunch. I need to get those shots off my old comp...

Not related to Oranbega, but, I remember loving my BS/SR scrapper from maybe 1-20. Then hating it from 20-39 because it was so much weaker than regen (and because I didn't have the mez protection click power - I didn't realize it could easily be made perma - yeah, yeah, I got *all* the mez badges before hitting 50). I remember loving it again from 39-50 - thank you perma-elude! I got Challenge so I could taunt AV's that the tanks with their silly typed defenses and resistances couldn't handle. Then I remember hating and mothballing the guy when they took perma-elude away (i5?). Then I remember having lots of fun with him again thanks to the fairer MP making me a cheap soft capped defense build which incidentally also gave him basically unlimited endurance and made his attacks recharge crazy fast - had a blast on ITF's with him. I don't play him that often now because I like playing force multiplier AT's like defenders and corrs, but it was a good ride.
  7. Thanks to my wife and Isolators runs and Hamster - and DC - I've gotten to do the vast majority of story arcs, task forces and trials - from Cavern of Transcendence, to sewer trials, to Doc Q, to Cathedral of Pain, to masters on all of the Incarnate trials and the Really Hard Way.

I still have several Blue and Red story arcs that I haven't done. I want to do them all. Fortunately over the summer I managed to do all of the Praetorian content and First Ward and Night Ward. I haven't touched the DA arcs yet - need to do those. I'm going to run through the SSA's on both sides one more time to make sure I didn't miss anything. I want to find out what the finale was going to be for SSA2!

I also want to get my Water/Poison corr and Nature/Psi def to 50. Sigh, so many combos I still wanted to do that I never will (Medieval Rage - Battle Axe/Shield brute arch-nemesis of Medieval Power, Shield/something tank, Invuln tank, Ice tank, titan weapons, street justice, beast mastery, dark control, a new stalker). Not to mention the new powersets that now won't see the light of day (Bio Armor, etc.)

And AE... I want to find the "top 10" most epic player created AE arcs and play them while I still can.

    I remember....

Here's a few. I'll probably post more later...

I remember not being able to find Ms. Liberty after getting out of Outbreak and actually filing a petition for help.

I remember at one point wondering what was happening because I wasn't getting invited to teams as often anymore and then realizing my main was on hide for probably weeks.

I remember feeling like the game was running out of steam for me and going to Perez for some random mission while soloing. I saw the Kraken and put up a message on Broadcast that the Kraken was out not really expecting anyone to reply. One person joined me and said I should announce on Victory Forum, Victory Badges and Victory Monsters - I had never heard of these channels nor had I frequented the forums. Everything changed after that...

  10. I am totally flabbergasted. I've been playing this game for over 8 years as many of you have! It's like an old friend at this point that I could just drop in on whenever I wanted to relax and have some fun. Just like many of you I'm sure, I've got 2 accounts that I paid a 12 month subscription on with the highest confidence that I would tire of the game before it would end.

I just can't believe this! The devs and moderators for this game are awesome. I wish them all the best and hope they're being well taken care of. I have concerns that is not the case. I hope I'm wrong.

My preference? Battalion Invasion! Let's at least see what they had planned, ffs.
I hope they do have something planned. For all we know there may be no one left who wants to or knows how to do something like that in November.

Ugh, I am just so frustrated! This game has meant a lot to me. I met the love of my life in this game! I have had so many good times in this game - too many to count. My characters are so familiar to play. The new stuff they've been putting out lately (like water blast and nature affinity for example) has been top notch.

    Such a shock...
  11. CuppaManga, thanks a bunch for your response! I'll definitely try out the mouse sensitivity setting. I'm not using a 3rd party control panel for my mouse, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I have already tried Recommended mode. It has the same issue. That's what I was using before stepping down to Minimum, but I didn't know about the hardware acceleration, so I'll bump it back up to Recommended.

On a somewhat related note about running in 1920x1080, I don't actually want to run full screen, but it seems that, unlike the Windows version of the game, you cannot resize the game when running in windowed mode except to one of the settings in the fixed list - meaning you can't just click and drag the bottom right corner of the game window, or the right side of the window to change its size. Do you know if there's anyway to override the game so it does allow for that? Because frankly 1600x900 is way too small on a 1920x1080 screen - you lose a lot of real estate. But I would like to run it in windowed mode.

About the MBP Retina, I'm not sure that I want to spend that much time hijacking a machine at the Apple store, but that does give me an idea which I should have thought of before! I have a friend who has one and used to play CoH. Maybe I can convince him to install it and try it out for a little while.

    Thanks again!
  12. My Win 7 desktop machine died a few days ago and as a result I have been playing on my work Macbook Pro laptop. I have run into a few issues that affect my gameplay. I have also been considering getting my wife a Macbook Pro Retina which I consider the ultimate laptop, but these CoH issues have given me pause. We both play CoH regularly and if I can't find a way for her to have an enjoyable CoH experience on her new laptop it might as well be a $2k brick as far as she's concerned. Anyway, to the questions!

My work Macbook Pro is a "15 inch early 2011" with 16GB RAM and a 2Ghz i7 with an AMD Radeon HD 6490M 256 MB. Running Lion (10.7.4).

When I play CoH, I hook up the laptop to a 1080p monitor using an Apple branded mini display port to DVI adapter. The monitor looks great most of the time, but when I start the game it steps down to 1600x900 in full screen mode. When I try to raise it up to 1080p resolution, the game looks horrible - similar to old style CRT monitors when you're running at the wrong refresh rate. I normally play the game using this monitor with my Win 7 desktop machine at 1080p without issue.

First question: Should I be able to play the game at 1080p resolution?

Next question, while playing, especially when there's a lot of particle effects going on (teaming with a couple of water blasters for example), sometimes the game just freezes for up to 5 seconds. After it comes back, the gameplay continues normally, but this can happen once every couple minutes. I never experienced anything like this on my desktop. I don't remember having issues like this on Windows laptops either. Is this just a function of the Mac version of the game? Or a limitation of the MacBook Pro? I have the game dropped down to "Minimum" graphics level and this still happens.

Final question about my Macbook Pro... I play the game with an external keyboard (apple USB keyboard) and mouse (MS Intellimouse). This is the same keyboard and mouse I use with my Win 7 desktop machine. Frequently when I'm using my mouse to turn, the game will overcorrect and cause my character to jerk about 180 degrees. This can be quite disorienting often causing me to make a wrong turn or start running in the opposite direction of where I wanted to go. Do others get this jerky mouse movement experience on their Macbook Pro?

About the Macbook Retina. Has anyone played the game on the Macbook Retina? Is it a *perfect* gaming experience? Can you play at full resolution? Does it handle playing on an external display well (for playing CoH on an external monitor)? If the CoH Mac game client and not the laptop hardware is the problem for my above issues, would booting into Windows give me a better play experience on both a retina and on my Macbook Pro?

I apologize for the multitude of questions. Any helpful responses, similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  13. Also, rented some scaffolding and replaced the chandelier hanging down from the 20ft high ceiling in our foyer and cleaned up and painted around the 13-18ft high window in the foyer, and painted the upper half (around 8ft - 16ft) of our living room walls.
  14. Traps/Beam defender: 1-50 on a mostly static team that my better half organized. What a great group we had! Capped off the run defeating a +3 Lord Recluse AV at the end of the Project: DESTINY arc. Edit: I wanted to add in some highlights of the content we did on the 1-50 team:
    • 2 DFB's to kick off the run
    • All the mayhems but Atlas - and no Hero's on any of them. Boo!
    • 1 DiB
    • Tarikoss SF
    • Vincent Ross (in Shark I think)
    • Rikti Invasion in Shark
    • Silver Mantis SF
    • ITF
    • Levantera - Intro to Vanguard and her followup arc(s)
    • Mort Kal
    • Scirocco - all of his arcs - finishing off with deafeating LR at the end where most of us hit 50

Other than that, a few Mortimer Kal's (my favorite TF - what a boon that it was the WST!):
    • DM/Elec brute: 32-35
    • TA/Arch def: 29-32 (technically hit 32 after the Mortimer Kal SF while defeating Ghost of Scrapyard)
    • Dark/Cold controller: 30-32
    • Water/Poison corr: 36-38

  15. The Player Event Resource Committee Presents:
    The Great Makeover: The Vindicators

    August 1st to 21st, 2012

There are many Hero and Villain Groups in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles, with new ones forming all the time using the latest fashion and equipment in their attire. One of the original groups, The Vindicators, has been in need of some new costumes for quite some time now and are seeking out designers! Your challenge: Makeover The Vindicators!

The Vindicators are a hero group led by Ms. Liberty. They can often be found with Longbow fighting Arachnos in the Rogue Isles. (Wiki Page)

Contestants will only use the in-game character creator to design a "makeover" for any number of The Vindicators listed above. Your goal is to create a set of costumes for the "New" Vindicators. All options in the character creator are fair game, meaning even Paragon Market and Badge earned pieces may be used in the design. Sticking to the lore is important to us, but contestants may even go as far as changing character genders and no matter what changes are made, we would like to know why they were made. Reasoning could be simple or complex, but we want to know what contestants were thinking in why they changed what they did other than the obligatory "It was ugly."
    • Two entries per global per Vindicator are allowed: @Person can submit two separate Ms. Libertys, but cannot submit a third Ms. Liberty etc..
    • Non-VIP may enter, but be aware there may be limitations to the amount of INF awarded, or any of the IO sets.
    • To be considered for the top prize pools, contestants must submit at least an entry for minimum of 4 of the 8 Vindicators.
    • Judging will be based on: Creativity, Overall Aesthetic, and the tie in to City of Heroes' Lore.

    • The top 20 entries will receive 100 million INF (Must have at least 4 individual Vindicators)
    • The top 4 entries will receive an additional 500 million INF (Must have at least 4 individual Vindicators)
    • The top entry for each of the 8 Vindicator will receive 125 million INF
    • All entries will be entered into a random IO Set Enhancement drawing which will include, but are not limited to: Numina ++, Miracle +, Steadfast 3%, and LoTG 7.5%.
    • Contestants can win in each prize pool, but cannot win twice in a given pool!

    • The submission period is August 1st to 21st, 2012.
    • Entries can be submitted in three ways: Submission Thread, Private Message, or Email: perc.coh@gmail.com
      • Forum posted entries that are NOT posted in the submission thread will NOT be considered.
    • Each entry must include a global handle, the name of the Vindicator, 3 images or links to images displaying the makeover, and why (reasoning) the changes were made.
      • The 3 required images should show the Front, Side, and Back of the character.
      • Please do not submit more than 3 pictures or links per Vindicator.
    • The submission format can be seen below and there is an example in the submission thread.
    • If you are posting pictures, please try to keep the width near 300px. If you do not / cannot crop your images then simply post the link rather than have it displayed.
    Code:
Global Handle: @Your Handle Vindicator: [Insert Vindicator's Name] Pic or Link 1 Pic or Link 2 Pic or Link 3 Why: [Insert Why]

Q- Can I change the gender of a character?
A- You may, but you will need to have a solid story based reason for doing so.

Q- Can I change the name of a character?
A- You may change a character's name, but please provide your reasoning for doing so and how that fits into current (or reasonably predicted) lore.

Q- I don't know how to post a screen shot, can I still enter?
A- You can enter by emailing your screen shots to perc.coh@gmail.com and we will host and post them for you. Please include your global and forum name in the email. You can also make use of free image hosts like: http://www.tinypic.com

Q- Do I need to take the screen shots of the character in the costume creator or can I take an action shot?
A- You may take your screen shots with any background you chose. Please make sure the picture clearly shows the character's new look. Also note, powers (customized or not) will not be judged.

    Q- What about weapons?
A- You are welcome to show weapons in your screenshots if you feel it adds to your makeover look.

Q- How exactly do my entries count towards prizes?
A- You can submit up to 16 different costume entries per global (2 per Vindicator). All your entries will count towards the "best of" whichever Vindicator it is. Each set of Vindicators (at least 4) will count towards the top 20 and top 4 prizes. If you choose to create more than 4 costumes per set, your best 4 will be counted and you will get a small bonus for the additional creations.

  17. The Player Event Resource Committee would like to thank all of the base builders who entered and completed the Design Challenge - Disaster Base! Each and every one of you surprised and amazed us with your skills, creativity, and commitment to your design. This was certainly not an easy contest and it was a true pleasure to see all of the bases come to life!

Just as a reminder, the base builders were given a base with an entryway and one 3 by 3 room. They had 200 random items of "wreckage" that had to be used to complete the base and 50k in prestige as "disaster relief funds." Bases were judged based on creativity, use of the "wreckage," cohesion/theme, difficulty, and overall aesthetics.

If anyone is interested in joining the Player Event Resource Committee or has ideas for future events, please contact Madame Pistacio or email perc.coh@gmail.com.
  18. Happy belated birthday! Hope you had some fun after getting off work.
  19. There's only two ways I've seen the green stuff successfully run:

    1. Do two or three runs in a row with the same group of people - so that people have some practice. Players that are still getting stuck in the green during the second run should sit in the hospital for the third run.

    or,

    2. Use Incandescence: Get 4 or more players who have incandescence. Put them all on one team (or on Vent/Teamspeak) and have them take turns using incandescence on each Obliteration - teleporting everyone out of the green stuff.

Note that (2) can still fail due to just bad luck or someone missing with Incandescence or someone stubbornly leaving prompt on and getting stuck in the green anyway, but I think generally (2) will work better than (1) as you are mostly only depending on 4 players instead of 12.
  20. The Player Event Resource Committee is excited to announce the contestants for Design Challenge - Disaster Base!!

  21. The Player Event Resource Committee Presents:
    Design Challenge - Disaster Base!

Oh no, something terrible has happened to your base! Was it a natural disaster? A gang of looting Skulls? A Rikti bombing? A jealous Hellion's girlfriend? Whatever the cause, a total disaster has hit your base leaving you with nothing but wreckage! How creative can you be at turning a mess into a beautiful base? Thirty Designers will be selected to see who can best salvage their "Disaster Base"!

    • Anyone who wishes to compete may enter by filling out a short form linked at the bottom of the post.
    • Contestants will be chosen based on creativity of their answers, passion for designing, and skill level.
    • Entrants may choose to link up to 3 screen shots of previous base work.
    • Having previous base building experience is not a requirement; a variety of contestants will be chosen.
    • Entries will be accepted until June 24th. Contestants will be selected by June 28th and will be invited into bases from June 28th to July 1st.
    • Contestants will be posted on the forums and will be notified individually via email.
    • Non-VIP players may enter, but must realize that the prizes they win may be limited by their Paragon Tier level.

    • Each contestant will be given a "disaster" base to resurrect and design. Each base will have exactly the same number of items (wreckage) and an additional 50k prestige (disaster relief funds).
    • Contestants may not do anything to earn or buy more prestige for the super group. Part of the challenge of this contest is designing with only the materials provided and a small amount of prestige.
    • Contestants may not delete any of the preexisting wreckage. You may move it or reposition it, but you may not delete it. You must use the wreckage in a creative way.
    • Any player who does not have access to Paragon Rewards base items may request that a PERC Rep drop them off in the base.
    • Contestants may design only the given "Disaster Base" room, the base entrance will NOT be judged.
    • Design/Building time will end on July 20th.
    • Judges will tour bases between July 21st and 25th.
    • Bases will be judged without the contestants present. Contestants may email a summary/description of their base to be considered during judging.
    • Bases will be judged on: creativity, difficulty, use of wreckage in design, overall aesthetics, and cohesion.
    • There will be 3 overall winners selected and up to 10 Honorable Mentions.

    • Overall Winners (3)- 2 Billion influence, a set of ATOs (player's choice), and an Olympian Guard costume code!
