So, I am feeling guilty on Keyes runs because I do not have a tank that can help drag AM's lousy *** from terminal to terminal. As a result, I am toying with making a tank. And leveling it and all that.

But, I know absolutely nothing about invuln. Bug helped me lots, but then I tried to build something on my own. I am not sure I like it

I kept this post here because I only care what Victory people think!

Actually, having woken up a bit more (and drunk enough tea to drown some of my mid-shift flippancy...) I'm wondering - if you're mainly after a tank that would have better staying power against AM, might Elec Aura work better?

I do want a tank that can do anything, really, but repeated Keyes runs just drove the point home that I cannot contribute a tank to anything.

I don't know much about Tanks, but I just made a few edits .. capped S/L/E/N/F/C, improved recharge and kept most of the same powers.

Nugget didn't slot Rest! Or Brawl! He knows nothing!

Doesn't look bad at all, though there's a few things I'd change. All little tweaks, nothing serious.

  • Assuming you can live without Super Jump (that's what Ninja Run and such are for), I'd rather take Tactics and use it for Gaussian's. Better use of slots than 6-slotting Taunt, IMHO.
  • Moved the stealth IO to Rest and the Slow resist IO to Super Speed, since SJ is gone.
  • Kismet +Acc isn't really worth a slot, not with all the other Acc bonuses from the sets.
  • Replaced the two Mako IOs in Rib Cracker with a single Crushing Impact IO. Saves a slot, and all you lose is a bit of acc/end/rch, all of which were already way higher than really necessary.
  • Used the above slots to allow use of 4xLotG in the defense powers instead of HOs. Better bonuses.
  • Pulled the Miracle:Heal out of Health and used it to put a Aegis Psionic resist in Resist Energies instead. Also removed a Hasten slot and put an Impervium Armor psionic resist in Resist Energies. When you're an Invuln, every little bit of Psionic def/resist helps.
  • Pulled a slot out of Initial Strike, moved it to Boxing, and re-organized into two Kinetic Combat sets, plus a Crushing Impact IO in Initial Strike.

Forgot about tactics..
The accuracy on the powers is not overkill. Its high without the added +7%s from LotG sets >.>
Vs. +4s each attack has 95% accuracy.. so you shouldn't miss unless if -tohit gets yah!

I really don't think gaining 6% resist is worth two slots. Those slots could be spent boosting up the percents in your attacks..

Hasten is still slotted with 3 because I had no other place that would benefit from a single slot. If you exemp, it will atleast recharge quicker :3

6 slotting Gaussian's versus 6 slotting Taunt is kind of silly.

Invuln is a typed defense build with a need for recharge. Mocking Beratement gets you S/l def, f/c def, max end AND rech. Whereas Gaussians's is going to benefit Invuln's def by only 1.25% (not enough in my mind).

If you are considering making a new character I would honestly avoid an invuln tank for the new high level content.

As mp stated invuln is a typed def set. It also has a psi hole which is pretty common in high level content. Shield maybe a better way to go.

Id also say perhaps the best 'tank' for a keyes maybe a scrapper or a brute. Auto hit powers are auto hit. Damage that is a percent of your total hp means its just that much harder to have a 'healer' refill your green bar. Stacked destinys means anyone can be a soft and hard cap.

I've tried both my shield tanker (with aid self) and my willpower tanker at Keyes. My shield does much better. It has less HP so I am able to heal myself to full and I am able to hold a few oranges for the final battle because I do not need to carry as many greens as the WP does (WP has like 3400 hp).

I have a shield/mace at 50 but I dunno, I view it as "meh." I am sure with some IOs it could be decent. I guess I just don't like the dude enough.

Keyes was just a reminder really on the fact that I have no tank to bring if we are short one. This can even go for stuff like LRSF or STF.

I wanted to make a new StJ toon but since I did shield I was looking for something else. I could do Willpower, but I have taken a couple up to the 40s and I seem a bit bored by it or something.

I could always go Brute with this guy, but if I am going to care more about aggro management and being a meat shield I feel like I may as well go tank. Unless Brutes hold aggro fine with a decent aura and taunt. I dunno, never really played one before.

I'd think about making something with psi protection or at least positional Def that you can softcap- but again- its pretty easy to soft cap things now with 2x +3% def IOs and at least 5% perma from Barrier.

I think a regen brute might be pretty good for keyes to be honest- MoG, 2 heals and a +regen. Regen lacks a taunt aura like NRG/shieldfire/dark/invuln/wp(to a lesser extent) so you will have to spam your taunt power...but it would be interesting.

Hey Hippeh,

Brutes do just fine at agro management with a 6 slotted taunt and your taunt aura. I run a SS/Shield brute that runs just as good as most tanks with no problems. Just because something isn't a tank doesn't mean it can't hold agro. Don't discount the brutes.

Thanks for the info Not really discounting Brutes, I just have no idea how they maintain aggro compared to tanks. I've not really played a brute where I had to care about it - we had a SS/shield brute team that could just jump in and smash.

This sounds interesting. I've got a young Broadsword/Regen brute that I might try to trick out for tanking once he hits 50. Probably aim for 30-ish defense and count on the team to fill it out to the cap, and all the regen should take care of anything that gets through and that silly auto-hit stuff.

Hrmmm... with /regen, Antimatter will amazingly debuff your regen, I'm wondering if you would have enough left to count... My WP usually runs around with 0hp/sec when dragging&tanking

Yo, I may not know much about the builds but being a regen on Keyes is a rough go, unless a lot of people have the rebirth incarnate joint.

My DM/Regen scrapper has pretty high regen and MoG is up every 1:45 secs. I think it would be even worse for a tank, the debuffs to regen on that trial made it a rough go. Having rebirth does make it a lot better, though.

Regen as a set is very misnamed (is that a word... well it is now) WP is what regen should have been.

Regen to me should be thought of a "HEAL". You have reconstruct a fairly nice heal. Dull pain. in this case, used as a heal rather than a +HP.

Most regens build for +recharge, while WP build for max hp and "regen". Thats why they both may end up with spiritual alpha but for totally different reasons.

I highly doubt that a regen brute could be the sole aggro sponge for a keyes but I think as far as dragging Antimatter around and being the taunt bot it is very possible.

It would however not be my 1st choice... elec is nice, shield is nice I haven't looked at energy aura but I would assume it would be great for this as well.

I know elec armor gets a bad rap. I've been messing with my KM/elec scrapper now for a while and pretty much I'm of the opinion that you need to play it differently for each type of trial. For keyes I run rebirth destiny. For apex I switch to barrier. For Lam I run rebirth and carry purples. Baf barrier and carry reds.

I used to hate resist based mitigation but now I'm starting to like them a little more, you can layer on a good bit of defense just using IOs (6% from 2 IOs, 3% each from things like stealth, cj, hover, leadership, fighting pool usually gives you about 4ish%) so while you may not reach soft cap, you can reach a noticable amount of defense with just IOs and then top it off with a few purples or the 5% tail from barrier.


Hippy I have some time I will try to throw together a shield/StJ for you.
