Logic dictates it pretty much has to be Numina, for the same reason we kill Numina first on the RSF. If anyone else dies, Numina will just rez them.

He's a possibility as well, because both Posi and Sister P are Defenders too, but BaBs still makes more sense.
Manticore USED to be the Scrapper representative, I'm not entirely sure why they made him a Defender instead. Before TA and Archery existed he was a Katana/SR scrapper. Chimera still is, but has some Archery powers as well.

It doesn't matter because this IS a comic book game after all and it is a 7-month arc. One (or more) of them will die during the first 5 months and all be miraculously restored in month 7.

Incentive to remain a VIP is that they're permanently unlocked or otherwise available to go back and play.)
In short: they should be doing everything possible to make this something people want to spend their money on. Signature Story Arcs won't be a selling point of VIP status if we're on part 3 of 7 and parts 1 and 2 are gone forever.
As someone mentioned the LRSF...
Back Alley Brawler, Numina, Sister Psyche, and Manticore are still alive in the future.
Positron is mentioned as being used to power Lord Recluses machine.
That leaves Statesman, who is mentioned as being dead, Citadel and Synapse, both of which are said to be missing.
Now they could just think Statesman is dead and have no actual proof. This is a comic book staple story telling device. And I just don't picture Statesman being the type to stay dead, he's the CoH Superman.
Citadel and Synapse both need TF revamps more than any other. However Synapse needs it more than Citadel.
Missing could just as easily be dead. It could be the player characters know one of them is dead, but the Freedom Phalanx members don't.
Also, replacing a contact for a TF isn't out of the question. They removed the Calvin Scott TF after all.
My first guess...Synapse. Does it really matter that there's a dev using the name? Nope. We have a dev using the name War Witch, and War Witch is dead. 
However I wouldn't put it past them to kill off Back Alley Brawler. Let's face it. Out of all of them, he's the one showing his age. So going out in a blaze of glory might be more to BABs style.
Still, he's in the LRSF as being alive in the future, and Synapse going out in a heroic fashion would be awesome as well.
In fact, they could kill off Synapse, then have him return through the use of the Speed Force!

Also, killing off not just the only prominent black guy, but the only prominent minority at all (Foreshadow isn't exactly prominent) is groan inducing. I think everything you've said makes sense, but I hope they don't choose BAB for those reasons, and because he's my favorite signature character on blue-side.
Regardless, I'm going to bet on Psyche being killed off and Manticore turning villain (at least for a while), only to come back later with Psyche in another body (wouldn't it be hilarious if it was Aurora again? lolz
) and Manticore redeeming himself (with revamped character models and TFs). The fact that one picture has both of them in it, and the other one doesn't makes me wonder if they made a before and after image (somehow missing Manticore's quiver in the process), and sent out the wrong one.

States, BAB, Citadel, Posi, and Synapse are either in full-on BRING IT mode or charging into the fray. (Okay, sure, Synapse could very well be prepping to become veng bait, but still...)
Numina sort of looks like she's ready for some smackdown but has that "I'm a ghost and this is still gonna hurt" expression.
And Manti and Psyche... are clinging to each other like, "OMG, this is it, I love you honey, someone cue 'My Heart Will Go On' as we slow-mo die."
