This is the first thing about COH Freedom that has rubbed me the wrong way.
The veteran reward for that already exists, and the new one will probably work the same way (and the same way that "buy xp" works in the other 2 F2P games I have played) - you buy a "boost" that gives you double xp for a certain amount of time, or a certain number of bars. It'll basically be the same as patrol xp on demand.

Plus, leveling is SO quick and easy already if you want it to be, I can't imagine why it matters.

This was discussed during the initial announcement.

Controllers, Masterminds, VEATs and HEATs will not be available to freebies.

It's the principle of a bunch of people having the option to pay cash for an increased xp rate. I just hope that buying xp boost for cash doesn't unlock the same tier required for AE access... That would be disastrous (It's too late, and I'm too tired to start trying to wrap my head around the more mathy elements of this whole ordeal.)

(I serously doubt there won't be some sort of limiter like no more then 2 per IO making it a ++...and it may make a 7.5% into a 8.5% so the most you'd get is 9.5% boost for 2 instead of making it a 22.5%...this is pure speculation.)

The whole repeatable thing sounds like you must buy them again for them to be "repeated". That's fine IF they're global per character and not global per account. I would also assume they're not tradeable, though you could unslot something, mail it to yourself, use another character to enhance, mail it back, to get around a 5 / character limit but that's no different then claiming 18 merits, hitting all exploration badges in 1 zone to be over 20, do a random roll and mailing that recipe to another character, deleting the recipe drone and doing it all again.
All I have to say is watch the ustream videos. They answer a lot of your worries.

I know it says "Pet Archetypes," but the official info now says that Free will have 8 and Premium will have 8+. If we assume that 4 of the 6 missing archetypes are the Khelds and VEATS, that leaves 2 more archetypes...but there are either 3 or 1 "Pet Archetypes". Obviously, Masterminds are one of them. But if Controllers count, wouldn't Dominators? And vice versa?

Was any of this cleared up during the chat?
Yes, explained a few weeks ago. Controllers, Master Minds, HEATs, and VEATs are locked out. Controllers and Master Minds can be unlocked for premium players at the 20-21 month range. HEATs and VEATs are VIP-Only.

First up, thanks for the transcription work Von Krieger

Overall I like the changes a lot! This seems to make it easier for me to get the rewards

One question though, and my apologies have it been asked before.

The article describing the Paragon Rewards details mentions that the tier 9 VIP rewards will "refresh" every 3rd/4th month, thus either utterly removing or only temporarily making the former rewards in the tier locked. Now, my favorite shiny in the slide show of course was the Celestial armor. The abovementioned taken into consideration, will this mean that if I don't get to unlock the tier 9 in the first 3 or 4 months, I will have to wait a certain amount of time to be able to re-unlock the armor? Or will it (doubtfully) mean that if I don't reach tier 9 the first 3/4 months, I will never get a chance to get the Celestial Armor??

Thank you for transcribing!

Oh my gosh, I have never been happier that I kept my accounts going even when my internet was nonfunctional for months.

At any rate, if you are a subscriber, you'll get access to the invention system while subscribed. You would only lose access if you stopped subscribing before unlocking tier 7.
Thanks Snow Globe, you can always be counted on for dev to dunce (i.e. me) translations.

Actually I believe they've kind of already thought of that.

IIRC patrol XP doesn't work in the AE, Double XP weekends also are non-effective in the AE. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the XP boosters were also non-effective in the AE as well.

Badge Earned: Wing Clipper

A real showstopper!

I am still confused.

This makes my brain hurt, just like MIDs.

Edit: Ok, for the aged curmudgeon with Oldtimer's disease, my last vet badge is for 75 months, I have red and blue 50s several Incarnate 50s and I bought most of the packs. Am I going to actually *lose* anything?

Hmmm I wonder if "Summon signature" is alignment locked?

I have a Defender who went villain (by keeping other vigilantes/villains alive during their exploits not by initiating any evil actions himself) And did the first part of Ghost Widow's patron arc (I.E. he didn't betray her)

I like to think he was doing it all just to get a chance at warming that cold heart of hers.

And now he's back to full hero status he still has a Fortuna on bodyguard duty so that GW can "keep an eye" on him. I'd love to be able to buy "Summon Ghost Widow" without having to rotate to Villain again (especially for a consumable)

He could set up the base for an intimate dinner for two, given that he's Emp/Dark/Soul I'm sure he can rustle up something she'd find tasty

Not-if-you-keep-paying-your-subscription!

The talk of unlocking existing stuff is only for accounts that lapse from VIP (paid) to Premium (No longer paying)

Wow. Entitled much? Please remember your $15.00 a month is for access to the servers. All this stuff you get free as long as you stay subscribed. Hell, I would have access to most of it if I went premium.

Sounds an awfull lot like "**** you and your free stuff, I want other free stuff, and it better be good free stuff or I'll ***** and moan."

After reading all of this I have to admit it is masterfully done. To completely revamp the system without really changing anything is impressive. To be able to sell it to so many people with so little angry outcry is also impressive.

Don't get me wrong, this will most likely bring tons of new folks to the game. I'm all for that but to sell this as a new system is false. At best it just reworks the old system so they can make money off of it.

Which is the name of the game and I'm ok with that.

Bravo Paragon Marketing! Keep our game running for as long as you can please.

Black Pebble and his crew better be getting HUGE bonuses this holiday season.

Positron will most likely offer you employment for this idea, as long as you sign the idea off to him.

The way it was described, it is a single power that has an effect determined by your alignment.

I believe it's a random signature as well, not a fixed. So your scenario, prolly not.

That's the point of this thread. You unlock each slot with a Paragon Reward Token.

Regarding Tier 9 VIP costume pieces.

Will these be available in the market for direct purchase either immediately or after they have had a 3-4 month exclusivity period as Paragon Rewards? For that matter, will the other costume pieces currently gated behind the vet system or tied to badges be available for direct purchase?

Whether or not the thing I most like about the game--character customization via costumes--becomes more heavily gated will have a significant impact on my desire to keep playing. I do not mind buying costume pieces directly from the market--in fact I prefer it. I do have a problem with having to wait months or years (as in the current system) or spend hundred of dollars on Paragon Points to get access to them.

So, I get 81 months come August 3rd, and if Paragon runs a bit late, then I hit 84 months -- Yay, Tier 9. BUT, here's the thing I'd like to know....I'm subscribed through Feb 2013 (not a typo, 2013), which equates to 99 months.

Given I won't get billed again until 2013, will I still get those rewards (and points) up front when Freedom does hit?

Other question. When do we start accumulating Reward Points? When Issue 21 hits in, I don't know, September or so, or from when we start accumulating Paragon Points back at the start of July?

Paragon Reward points begin accumulating on April 28, 2004.

No kidding. The rest of us have had to pay for the privilege to break the game since April 2004. The nerve.

So we'll have come September or whatever an additional four or five points to use to buy our way up the tiers?

I'm betting it's something like an extra 100K inf on mission complete for 24 hours or something of similar usefulness.
