Dev Chat Highlights, July 20: Paragon Rewards
So I have 36 months now (will have 40is by launch); this puts me in Tier 6. But Tier 7 is the "Access to Invention System" tier. Does that mean that I won't be able to use the invention system for another 8ish months? That can't be right, but that's how it looks unless parts of this tier thing don't apply to VIP accounts? According to the side-by-side, VIPs will have access to the invention system. Sorry if I'm being obtuse, but I just don't get it. Help!

I haven't gotten through this all yet, but already I have become irked by something...
XP Boost sounds like sacrilege to me, in any way shape or form. The fact that such a thing will exist in any way to me foreshadows being able to fork over real life cash for XP at some point. I know it's not the same thing, and I'm being extreme, but it's definitely a step in that direction and it doesn't sit well with me. This is the first thing about COH Freedom that has rubbed me the wrong way. |

You pretty much have it correct. I'll be an 84 month Vet when Freedom launches. By the formula, I will have 35 points then. Here's where it gets annoying- 34 of those points will be auto-filled in for me. I won't have any say in it- the first 8 Tiers will be auto-unlocked for me immediately. So I'll basically have 1 point to spend on Tier 9 or Tier 9 VIP.
This is what I have an issue with.. the 84 month vets should have a couple more points to spend!! |
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
I am still confused.
This makes my brain hurt, just like MIDs. Edit: Ok, for the aged curmudgeon with Oldtimer's disease, my last vet badge is for 75 months, I have red and blue 50s several Incarnate 50s and I bought most of the packs. Am I going to actually *lose* anything? |

I'm relatively okay with this. I'll start off with 26 tokens myself, possibly 27 depending how late in the year this hits. Then I think I'll plan on purchasing about $60 worth of points so I earn 4 more tokens to buy up a little further, maybe $120 if I have the cash to spare, and then wait a couple months to put myself at the top of t9 with all stuff unlocked. Heck, if I've got enough saved back I'll just buy enough points to fill up the "bush". Then I'll just have extra points sitting around for when new stuff hits the market that I won't have to feel bad buying since I already spent the cash a long time ago.
The only gripe I have is that you have to take EVERYTHING to move up a tier. Currently when I'm claiming rewards I grab the tailor tokens and skip most everything else. I take sands of mu and one of the ranged bonus attacks based on origin, and that's it. I claim the second ranged attack usually just so it's not sitting there unclaimed in my rewards list but I completely skip the prestige sprints because I don't like having four extra powers in an already far too large power section on my powers list. I have to scroll past all that mess to get to power pools and that means I'm going past the Vanguard MVAS, Shadowy Presence, Mystic Fortune, Secondary Mutation, Prestige Power Slide, Pocket D porter, Mission Porter, Assemble The Team, Walk, Sprint, Ouro Portal, FOUR sprints, and so on and so forth. It's a very long list and very irritating when trying to get to your pool powers. If we're going to be forced to take the sprints to get to higher tiers could we possibly move the power pools ABOVE the temp powers list to avoid this?
Aside from the horrendously clunky set-up and an apparently somewhat confusing interface (it reminds me of the Incarnate system in that way, in fact), this looks pretty good.

I wonder whether it is sensible to claim all your vet rewards or leave them unclaimed?
If I haven't claimed my free respecs on a character will that mean I have an unspent Vet Token to spend on something else?

XP boost is already an existing Veteran reward. It isn't something new. Your chasing the horse long long after the barn door was opened.

On that note, does anyone know if using that vet reward after 50 does anything? I never remember to use it while leveling.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
Okay,
Not that I'm not grateful for the leg up that the new rewards program is allowing for.
But is just kinda leaves a sour taste in my mouth to be told:
"We're not taking anything way"
and
"You'll be given all these points"
Then told that to get things, a lot of the points will be pre-spent to cover stuff I've already got (though nothing will be taken away) or given mandatory purchase placements for stuff I've already got (though nothing will be taken away).
It just seems unnecessarily clumsy.
Interesting concept, but I will have to wait and see how it works in practice.
Not really feeling a "yay" or a "nay." Guess I'll just wait and see how this turns out.
I'd be OK if I could just pick the rewards I want. I would drop the kilts, bellyshirts, Greek alphabets, bonus sprint powers and all that other useless crap and get something useful instead.
I presume the armor in the screenshots is da Tier 9 reward along with the wings. Another generic armor set, great, can hardly wait.
Edit:
Oh yeah the wings, reminds me of a certain Blizzard game.
Sorry, too much rant with too little to back it up. Oh, and check out this link, timestamp 33:00 til the end. Timestamp 34:15 shows it in action, not stills. The stills are also in the first post of this thread.

Animal Pack
- Non scaleable heads that are too small for the bodies
- Bull head that has no way to plug the horn holes if no horns are chosen.
- Can't do female cow look due to the horn holes, which cows do not have.
- Bustier clipping in various categories, has been addressed 2x and is still clipping.
- Halter top clipping in various categories, has been addressed as above. Clipping on this one is fixed.
- Bustier/Halter Has smooshed looking boobs in every category making the chest look weird.
- Colors are muted and are very difficult to blend with any other part due to this.
- Blacks are not really black but a dull grey on these parts.
- Bustier/Halter are not in a category where you can have sleeves and a large variety of gloves due to being crammed in the very limited jackets category. This could be solved by being in shirts category also, which they are not.
- Neck band piece has a 1 and 2 option but only in tights, 2 is not in any of the other categories after it was added.
there are a few for you on the steampunk fiasco.
Ascension Parts
- Shoulders have options that no other part has (gloves & legs)
- Shoulders and Legs have 2 color options that Gloves lack.
- The gloves don't blend in with the other parts due to lacking the second color choice, this was reported multiple times and I can only assume that it's laziness on the artists part as to why this even went live in this current iteration.
It saddens me because the actual parts, outside of these things look fantastic in all the packs and the ascension stuff. If these errors were corrected that would be fine but I don't expect most of these to be addressed at all. After all the Clockwork chest detail STILL has pokethrough when used on a busty female character and that's been reported since it came out with GR.

Wow. Entitled much? Please remember your $15.00 a month is for access to the servers. All this stuff you get free as long as you stay subscribed. Hell, I would have access to most of it if I went premium.
Sounds an awfull lot like "**** you and your free stuff, I want other free stuff, and it better be good free stuff or I'll ***** and moan." Jesus H Christ. |
I've worked in this industry and others related to it and I have very strong feelings about poorly done, shoved out the door work and when I see that I will say something about it.
I remember reporting silly things like floating girders back when CoV was in beta where some artist just lost a portion of something they were building in Port oakes and I happened to find it while flying around. It was reported and summarily removed.
I expect high quality from Paragon Studios as they have done in the past and I will continue to hold them to that level of quality.

Sorry you don't get it. Its not the hats, the capes, etc its out and out selling I win buttons for the competitive parts of the game.

The game has been getting progressively easier and easier for awhile now. Half the work on your xp and you need to pay or use up your points for it? Whatever. Already in the game, just need to stay logged off on a toon for a bit.
Keep the badges, costume parts, aura's and what not. I will gladly take the auction house slash command though. The vault doesn't sound so bad either.

So we'll have come September or whatever an additional four or five points to use to buy our way up the tiers?

You missed Dumpleberry's sort of tongue-in-cheek response there.
Paragon Reward Points (aka Tokens) is basically the old vet status, that began accumulating on April 28th, 2004. i.e. the day the game launched. :P What he's saying is no, you won't get any "extra" tokens, just whatever you would get for however long you've been subbed (the process of figuring that out has largely been the topic of this thread). You may be getting "Paragon Reward TOKENS" confused with "Paragon POINTS" (the currency used to buy things in the MARKET) those begin accumulating in..uh...sometime this month I think, I just forgot the specifics right before I typed this...
"Superman died fighting Doomsday because he allowed his toggles to drop, and didn't beat Doomsday before Unstoppable wore off, sad really..."
So, wait...New comers get to pick and mix what they get but...veterans DON'T?
That seems...stupid? Very? What happened to that 'Caring most about our vets' spiel?
I can instantly think of stuff I'd skip out on (Vanity pets and Greek letters) for something I actually USE.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.
