Yeah, the skin tone change and the "O" face might need another pass. I'm surprised Psyche bugs me more due to the implications of it that Blue Rabbit touched on.

Both of these jumped right out at me and are :

a) Pretty terrible
b) Pretty terrible

BAB is the Monet of CoH comics? (Her skin color varies wildly from artist to artist).

I can see it now in Ouroboros.

Mender Lazarus: Good news and bad news boss. The good news is that we prevented the Shivan attack on Atlas Park!

Mender Silos: Splendid. And the bad news?

Mender Lazarus: It hit Galaxy City instead.

Mender Silos: ...bollox.

Pretty impressive illustration:

Back Alley Brawler shocked speechless by what he's seeing while Sister Psyche, in her 80-year-old lapdance outfit, looks horrified at the destruction of . . .

destruction of . . .

I'm sorry. I've lost my train of thought.

Okay, I too am impressed with this, however...

...I'm getting more of a feeling that these new improvements are being done in reaction to another certain superhero MMO and their tutorial. (Which, BTW, if you didn't go searching for things, you missed a LOT of stuff in.)

Haha that's absolutely awesome.

Don't get rid of breakout though! Breaking out of jail as the first move in a villain's career is awesome!

The Praetorian tutorial explains all the needed concepts and answers pertinent questions. For instance, after a brief go at attacking some dummy robots, the contact has a conversation option where you can ask why your powers take so long to recharge; at which point he says you get more powers soon enough to chain them up. Thoughtfulness like that teaches new players what they need to know. I see no reason this new tutorial will be any different.

No - the new Galaxy City tutorial will replace ther current blue side Outbreak tutorial and red side Breakout tutorial.

Does this mean that the devs are shelving the praetoria tutorial?
No - the Praetorian tutorial willr emain - what it does mean though is that they might tweak the avatar creation screen to be a choice between making a Praetorian or a Primal, rather than the current Hero, Villain and Paretorian choice.

Quote:
If the praetoria tutorial no longer exists after City of Heroes Freedom, then does that mean that no one will be able to enter praetoria at all?
The 1-20 Praetorian content is remaining unchanged in I21 - and a new 20-25 Praetorian and Primal co-op zone is being added to expand it.

Quote:
Does this mean that no one will be able to be a loyalist or chose resistance and play through the entire praetoria story arc?
The 1-20 GR content will not change in I21 - the loyalist and Resistance choices will remain the same - alhtough it's not been said yet if there will be loyalist and Resistance choices available in the new 20-25 co-op zone.

Quote:
Does this mean that the only thing that Going Rogue was for is just to improve the graphics for the main game?
No - Praetoria is an important part of the CoH universe, and is the setting for the first stages of the Incarnate system.

Quote:
Does this mean that the only thing that Going Rogue was for is to make the incarnate system possible?
No - Praetoria gives players an alternative low level experience in a distinctive world which is an important part of the meta-story of the fight against Tyrant and the loyalists to save the multiverse.

Quote:
Or will there be a choice of tutorials if you have Going Rogue active on your account, where a pop up would say Primal (Galaxy City) or Praetorian?
Issue 21 will reduce the current 3 tutorials to 2 - Praetorian and Primal.

The new tutroial will be shorter and more dynamic than the Praetorian tutorial - there will be a further series of training missions form 5-19 to add more info for new players, rather than trying to squeeze it all into a 10 minute tutorial.

I think it'll still be available via Ouroboros - but in I21, there'll be no such thing as starting as a Hero or a Villain - the enw tutorial will allow you to make an avatar using any of the 12 ATs, and then enter the chaos of Galaxy City as a "neutral" - you'll then be able to help either BAB and Sister Psyche, or join with Recluse and his Arachnos troops who have arrived to take advantage of the mayhem.
Instead of simply clicking an icon when you make a new avatar, it seems that the new Tutorial will be about talking with and interacting with some of the signature characters to let you decide which side to take - it's a way more dynamic and lore-focused way of introducing players to the Hero/Villain battle that's at the heart of the game.

So, to be clear here...

I can make villain ATs (all of them) as a hero without ever having to touch Praetoria or villain side again?

Awesome!

Love the idea of comic-book style loading screens, but I think the coloring on these is way off so far.
Did you notice there are a lot of bright light sources?

Uhm...this is the official render of Shalice;

and

The nowhere-near as cool light green outfit that can be 100% replicated by players is in-game only. And it still looks horrible.

Also, I think even 80 year old psykers can be horrified at the, y'know, Coming Storm? The thing everyone presumed was so much hot air? It actually happening right there and dropping flaming meteors on you? I think even States would be having a bricking moment about there.

However, she does look a tad goofy. You can be horrified and yet combat-stance-ready at the same time.

Maybe it's another dimensional Doppelganger of BAB known as the Cul de Sacker.

You know what Sister Psyche needs? A trenchcoat, I mean all the cool psychics wear things with long trails, the Fortunata, the Night Widows, the PPD Psychics, and Mother Mayhem.

Plus she could actually keep herself warm in that dental floss outfit.

We should have comic panels for EVERY MISSION! Or at least every story mission.

... er....

you already can if you skipped them. Both through Ouro, and not flashback either.

Also, I do have to aggree, Sister Psyche's expression looks... less horrified than... I'm... not sure what. "Oh my god, I'm singing opera!" or something.

Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.

I would have to say, finally!!!

I've wanted to see comic panels for our loadscreens since I started playing. I mentioned it forever ago and have thought about bringing it up again for some time. I wasn't even looking for anything relevant, something like a "meanwhile..." text box with some kind of combat between generic heroes and Skulls, or Freakshow, or whatever group's in level range, with occasional appearances from the Phalanx scattered in between.

I really look forward to checking it out, and hope to see more things like this to pay homage to it's comic-book roots.

Sigh... I miss getting my monthly City of Heroes comic

"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.

As much as I hate to take a quote from GG, I wholeheartedly agree with her here
