Thats a good example. Even better because you can pay a flat one time fee to have access to the rock climbing wall and pool. Or you can keep your gym membership active for 3 years and have them credited to your account just as if you had paid extra to access them.

I like the gym comparison it works better.

Oh god I just flashed on that picture from drudge of the 65 year old guy wearing thigh high stockings, a bikini bottom and top, and a lacy shawl.

I need brain bleach.

Note: On reflection that isn't the worst I've seen. He doesn't have the body type to pull off the look but still it is ?tasteful? Anyway the people of walmart video has much worse in it.

There is a point beyond which no analogy should go. If you go three blocks past that and take a right, you'll see my house on your left.

Once you lap yourself and catch up, no one will know the difference.

* What happens if you are Premium, assign slots, go VIP, then back to Premium?

Currently, in this scenario you will be able to reassign your slots, but ONLY on the same server you assigned them to when you were Premium.

* Is there a "reset my selections" option?

Not currently, other than the "within the same server" scenario above. This may be something we consider as a future feature if demand is high enough.

* Player makes a Free account, creates a character on Server A, finds out his friends are on Server B, is there a way to move slots?

No, but in this scenario Player has two choices: Server transfer the character(s) (making them a Premium player in the process) or simply start another Free-level account (giving them 2 slots to assign to whatever server they wish).

* Can a VIP player reassign their slots?

No.

* Does a VIP player get to reassign their slots if they dropped down to Premium (allowing them to choose what characters to play and what servers) and then goes back to VIP?

Going back to VIP in this case will revert your slot assignments to what they were when you were last VIP. Characters over 12 on a server where you did not have slots will be locked.

* What happens to characters that are NOT unlocked when I assign my slots?

They are kept around, waiting to be unlocked.

CLARIFICATION about Masterminds (and Controllers):

Zwill said that you can choose to unlock MM and Controllers with your Paragon Reward tokens. This is INCORRECT. MM and Controllers are automatically unlocked when you have accumulated enough Paragon Reward Tokens (for existing veterans it's around 3 years). You don't even need to spend these Reward tokens to get the unlock. Of course, you can always unlock them early by buying them on the Paragon Market.

Finally, I am stealing Chad Guzlow-man's list because I love it so much:

If you are not paying for your account in City of Heroes Freedom, this is how many characters you'll have access to:
  • BASE FREE/PREMIUM ACCOUNT: 2 characters, total
  • OWN GOING ROGUE BEFORE FREEDOM LAUNCH: Add 2 more characters
  • PER YEAR OF PAST SUBSCRIPTION: Add 1 character per year
  • PER PURCHASED CHARACTER SLOT (beyond standard 12 per server): Add 1 character per slot purchased

If you are paying your subscription come City of Heroes Freedom, this is how many characters you'll have access to:
  • VIP ACCOUNT: 12 characters PER SERVER total (these are not moveable/transferrable. They are always unlocked on every server, just like today)
  • OWN GOING ROGUE BEFORE FREEDOM LAUNCH: Gain 2 more character slots
  • PER YEAR OF PAST SUBSCRIPTION: Add 1 character per year
  • PER PURCHASED CHARACTER SLOT (beyond standard 12 per server): Add 1 character per slot purchased
  • Other bonuses possible (+2 for being an i12 subscriber, etc.)
Nothing changes about your character options between being a subscriber now and being a subscriber when Freedom launches. (You WILL get access to the new VIP server, which means you'll be able to create 12 more characters if you desire.)
Thanks for the clarification, just one more question though. Do the 2 slots we got in Issue 12 count amongst the slots we're give as Premium players?

Why do I get the impression that I better take screenshots of all the server lists, and get ready for a long chat with tech support when this goes live. Its not like I haven't had personal experience of the old system going bad

Thank you TerraDraconis and Positron for the clarification on that. I think I completely understand and feel much better about the only holdup I had about this.

No.

2 toons TOTAL + 2 if he bought Going Rogue, +1 for any slots he's bought and +1 for every year he's subbed.

Possibly + 2 for issue 12, dunno yet, haven't had a definitive yes or no on that. Probably not though.

It is NOT 2 toons per server.

After COH:Freedom launches he will be confronted with 2 or more unlock tokens when he logs in the first time. You indicate that he has an existing account so he may have more than just the 2 tokens.

Anyway assuming that he only gets the 2 tokens he can pick any 2 characters he wants to unlock or he can unlock 2 empty slots on 1 or 2 servers. His remaining characters remain but are locked out of being able to be played until their slots are unlocked either by buying tokens or upgrading to VIP.

Again that is 2 tokens only not 2 per servers.

[In a fast low voice: Note that you will receive 1 extra token for each year that the account has been previously active. Note that purchases of certain expansions may give you additional tokens. Note that any already purchased tokens remain active and available for use by the player.]

The extra characters will NOT be deleted, they will simply be grayed out until he becomes a VIP or purchases additional slots.

Its just like it is now, only he will be able to use 2+ of his characters without paying a sub.

It's worth getting Premium membership without having to buy any Paragon points, plus additional bonuses based on how much paid subscription time you have.

This is an exceptionally stupid idea. What if I don't want to play MMs and Controllers? What if I have precisely zero interest in the ATs? What if I would rather spend my 3 years of Reward Tokens on something else? You're taking away choice and that is A Very Bad Thing. You might as well leave the old Veteran Reward system in if you're going to pull this, because it sounds like it works the same way.

P.S. This change doesn't affect me in the slightest as I will probably only ever bother to play as a VIP (don't see the point in playing with so many of these restrictions, but then you don't really care about non-paying customers I suppose), and I actually do like MMs, so this is my unbiased opinion.

Thanks for the clarifications Positron . I hope the explanation not only alleviates many players concerns, but also adds to the enthusiasm of Freedom.

You don't spend any of your PRT's to unlock the MM & Controller. They are automatically unlocked by you reaching Tier 5 of the Premium Reward Program. IE you accumulate enough months of being an active subscriber.

I believe you are misunderstanding what he is saying. Then again maybe I am too. From what I understand the Controllers and Master Minds are automatically unlocked for all players that have more then 3 years of time. You still keep those tokens. They are not automatically spent. The MM's and Trollers are unlocked "Free of Charge" with 3 years of time.

In what universe do you abid in where something that is given automaticly means that you spent something on it. Especially considering that Posi was talkng about people buying the ATs with points instead of tokens.

Key words being "enough Paragon Reward Tokens", complete that sentence as "...to spend on unlocking MMs and Controllers". If that's not what Posi meant then he really didn't phrase it well at all.

I would also just like to say that even if I am completely misinterpreting every single bad thing I am seeing about CoHF, whoever's responsible for writing this stuff up has done a positively rotten job explaining it (although points to the devs for continually answering questions and setting up Q&As on UStream and Facebook, I just wish their answers were clearer).
