So they are dismantling Batman Inc, putting Dick back where he ought to be (even though he was a great Batman with Damian), making Barbara less iconic and removing her from where she should be with the Birds, putting two grumpy chars together that won't work well together, and apparently erasing their 3 most popular characters (Tim Drake, Stephenia Brown, and Cassandra Cain) and erasing Renee as Question, Maggie Sawyer as Chief the SCU, and Kate Kane as Batwoman... which is stupid...

All they had to do to "fix" the situation is have Batman Inc become Leviathan forcing Bruce to realize that it was a mistake and coming back and becoming Batman Prime again... Have Bloodhaven rebuilt or have Nightwing move to New York with Damian and then have Bruce and Tim go back to how they did when they were doing the Batman & Robin books where they appear as needed in each other books... All problems solved. New major problem for the JLA to face. DCU is kept.

They're keeping Damien over Tim?

That's like rebooting Wolverine's comics and sticking him with Daken instead of Jubilee.

And Babs is back to being Batgirl now. Well whoopee. Let's forget the fact that she was a million times awesomer as Oracle. Heck, they're probably just figuring it'll give 'em the chance to cripple her again for another easy sales boost.

I just see this opening up a horrid can of worms. How long till we get the "shocking" introduction of the evil Red Robin aka Tim Drake? It happened to Cassandra Cain in the normal DCU, it could happen all the easier to Tim in this new continuity.

Maybe we'll see Stephanie Brown in her dad's Cluemaster identity. I bet that would be an exciting "plot twist".

But hey, all those old stories still exist. I can still read them, right?

I'll just have to try and not let them remind me that DC is potentially ****ing all over the characters I loved.

Reading the article, I am not sure just how much of the recent Bar-family stuff is going to have an impact going forward. But it does seem like they are trying to keep at least some of it, sometimes in weird convoluted ways.

For instance: they announced that Batman Incorporated will be getting a new #1 in early 2012.
And also Batwing:

"Batwing #1 is a series that spins right out of Grant Morrison's Batman Incorporated storyline."

And under the Nightwing article we have: “In DC's official announcement, the publisher confirms that Dick's time as the Dark Knight is still relevant. It reads, "After a tenure as the Batman of Gotham, Dick Grayson resumes his mantle as Nightwing!”

Which makes it sound like Bruce was away for a while, and Dick took over the Bat. Speaking of Nightwing, I’m not sure what to think of the costume. It looks to me like they wanted to mix Red Robin in with the Nightwing. I understand that they wanted to redesign the costumes, but at no time since taking the Nightwing persona, has Greyson had red in his costume. Various shades of blue and gold/yellow, but never red. He hasn’t had red in us costume since his Robin days.

We also are going to have FOUR Batman books: Batman, Detective Comics, Batman & Robin, and Batman: The Dark Knight. And with Justice League having Batman, Bruce is going to be a busy man.

But that’s not the only action going on in Gotham City. We have Catwoman #1, Birds of Prey #1 (of which I recognize Black Canary, Poison Ivy, and Katana? not sure who the tattooed woman is), Batwoman #1, and Batgirl #1. Not sure what to think of Barbara being Batgirl again. It could be the did get shot by the Joker, but wasn’t paralyzed. Or not paralyzed long, or even that there’s some type of miracle technology that has her walking again. I’m willing to give it a chance to see which route they are going, but I will be peeved if they just throw away 20+ years of character growth, while keeping all the other stuff that it seems like they are keeping.

Something potentially worrisome: nowhere in these announcements do we see any mention of Tim Drake. Or any mention of a Robin or Red Robin series. So far. We do still have almost three full months until all this comes about. We also have no mention – yet – of Cassandra Caine, or Stephanie Brown. But as I pointed out above we DO have Kate Kane as Batwoman. Still no word on Renee as Question.

To make the transition flow, the last few panels of the final books before the big reboot are going to be two kids playing with action figures. The one's mother comes to take him home.
After saying goodbye, the kid remaining grabs all his toys and says to himself, "Finally, now that Timmy is gone... NONE of that HAPPENED AT ALL!" And he starts playing again.

Their other plan was to have Bruce Wayne come out of the shower and reveal that the previous decades had all been a dream.

Lol. Yes, my favourite condescending line from Star Trek's reboot. I'm sure the Bat-fans will be as happy as some of the Trek fans were.

Anyhow, it's things like this that make me realise that I don't actually miss comics as much as I sometimes think I do. Why on earth should I read a comic, enjoy the story and get invested in the characters if everything will be invalidated a short time later?

Sigh

TWO Justice Leagues, in fact. He's also on the cover of JLI #1.

I totally agree. But, in the current run of Batgirl, it appears that Wendy Harris is being primed for the role of Oracle. She's got the wheelchair an' everything. It could work... but I don't know.

So he's DC's Wolverine: just plug him into anything and everything all willy nilly and hope for the best?

How the DC reboot's going to affect the Batfamily
I didn't think there was any doubt this would happen.

This should be called "OMG, what the hell have we done again let's fix it"

I'm sticking with my idea of 2 imprints.

Earth 1: Modern Superheroes
Earth 2: Golden Age

Hey, thanks SO MUCH for the spoiler RIGHT IN THE ******* THREAD TITLE!!!

I mean, **** anybody who might actually be READING this, right?

Here's some more news on titles.

The rundown:

Legion Lost - members of the Legion stuck in the present day, rather than the 31st century.

Legion of Superheroes - original recipe, new packaging

Teen Titans - oooookay... well, we know what Tim's doing in the relaunch (and his new Red Robin suit actually looks pretty cool compared to the others; do I detect a hint of Original Nightwing in the design?), but the rest... gah. And I guess Superboy's getting his own book, too.

Static Shock - his new look kinda works, though I'm not entirely sold yet on the hexagon-tiles he's riding instead of the simple disc he's used in the past

Hawk & Dove - LIEFELD?!?!? They gave freakin' LIEFELD art chores on this series?? I don't know or care who Sterling Gates is right now, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!? How does this guy keep getting work outside of his creator-owned schlock? Does he have blackmail on someone at DC or somethig?

I'm going to answer this question for you, as I know the answer. You may not like it however, but it's really the truth.

Some people actually like his work. It's true. At one point before there was really an internet, when those who did have a modem used AoL, people raved on and on about Liefeld.

Then, of course, the internet came, and people started jumping on bandwagons, and then EVERYONE on the internet had to jump on the bandwagons.

Kinda like Star Wars Episode 1. People saw it, said it was AWESOME. Now, all you hear is OMG IT SUCKS! YOU RUINED MY CHILDHOOD! Which of course, isn't true. Special Edition did that for the Childhood Star Wars fans.

[EDIT] Forgot to mention...I LOVE THE RED ROBIN OUTFIT!

I am ambivalent on Tim's new costume, and while I do kinda-sorta like the new origins on certain characters... OMGWTFBBQ is up with Superboy's and Kid Flash's costumes? And who is that on the ground there? And in the back? Tha hell?

It's revenge of the 90s and not in a good way!

And wait... KF there is supposed to be BART?! Oh hell naw.

I know there are some people out there who like Liefeld's art. But at this point, he's just there for the shock factor to get people interested. I cannot for the life of me see him actually sticking around on a project for more than a year at most.

I've met Liefeld. I've talked with him. The man is a dick.

Oh, and Sterling Gates is a decent writer. I believe he wrote Supergirl for a while and helped do War of the Supermen.

I'm not ever in favor of spoilers and I avoid ever being the victim of it however I can (as a huge Star Wars fan, I avoided all and never knew anything about the movies... not even IMAGES... nothing... That was HARD... anyway)...
However... isn't a DC RESET, basically by definition, going to result in Bruce being Batman?

Unless my sarcasm detector failed here... I am sorry if it did ruin anything for ya, that always sucks (not that I made this thread or anything, but still).

Anyways... don't worry... within 5 or so years, Bruce will likely not be Batman again...

No, no see, you have it wrong. In about three years, Bruce won't be Batman. In five years, he'll go back to being Batman after they cluster-**** everything up again and have to resort to another universe-wide reboot.

Ah, is that the cycle? I thought I may have been off!
They should just make flip books of the entire cycle.
Every few years, everyone can just flip through it.

I'm going to say it's because it's not the first time Liefield has been on Hawk & Dove.

Yes, that's the cover of the five-issue mini-series from 1988. I have that in my boxes. I find it interesting that back then Liefield actually drew his characters to look different. Nowadays, not so much. A lot of his characters have the same face and body.
