after all these years
Or, you can calm down a bit, read some, and find out that the maintenance from this morning accidentally caused a server rollback, and that they are trying to fix that.
I would MUCH rather have the Devs working trying to fix the problems than giving us status updates every 15 minutes.
Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.

The 6 hour window produced an unintended rollback, with people losing levels, badges and loot - so they've now taken the severs down again to try and fix the problem.

Count to 10 and take a deep breath...
Still poor comunication about what the devs are doin. I mean really 12 hour downtime. i would understand more if they told me it was somthing worth waiting for.

Or perhaps if it were i20. But to say nothing except |
We are paying customers. I understand the need for maitenence to be done. I understand that the servers will be down from time to time. But, I do not understand not communicating when its like this 12 hours down no info about what they are doing. |
Otherwise like today they dont seem to know what they are doin. |
They are just doin what they are doin and if we dont like it we can "F" off. |
And another thing why every server. If its a problem on freedom why is virtue down or triumph etc.... |
just sayin |
Read a book or something. Your life isn't going to end because ZOMG COH iz DOWN! Go outside. Snowblow the driveway or mow the lawn. Go watch a movie.
They gave us plenty of notice that there was an extended maintenance today, then after finishing early they realized there was a problem and told us immediately in the form of a post that maintenance would be extended.
Sounds like good communication to me, better than the guys that fix the elevator in my building that's for sure.

"There will be a scheduled maintenance tomorrow, March 31, from 5 AM PST to 11 AM PST. Please note that you will not be able to access the servers during this time. Thank you for your patience regarding this scheduled downtime. " is lame. We are paying customers. I understand the need for maitenence to be done. I understand that the servers will be down from time to time. But, I do not understand not communicating when its like this 12 hours down no info about what they are doing. I understand they can do what they want and have to take care of the hardware as they see fit. But some info about what they are doin is nice to have. Otherwise like today they dont seem to know what they are doin. They are just doin what they are doin and if we dont like it we can "F" off. at lease thats how it seems. I have payed them for 5 years now almost 6 and i think they could after all this time figure out that we can handle knowing that the server needs to be replaced or there is a new security update or that they have x,y,or z issues happening. But to take the game down and not inform us what is the issue or what is happeing is just lame at this point. And another thing why every server. *wheezing breath*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
They have no obligation to tell us anything. At all.
They ARE communicating, quite often, really, to keep us updated on the issue.
I find it utterly laughable that you believe that you are somehow entitled to have the servers constantly up, and to be continuously updated on what the development staff are doing to resolve the situation. No, sorry. Their servers, their decisions, their rules. You pay for the right to access the servers when THEY have those servers available.
Now, this downtime is longer and more severe than they were expecting, so they might decide to offer us some form of in-game compensation (DXP weekends are popular), but they are under no obligation to do anything of the sort.
If you don't like that, you can put your money where your mouth is and quit the game. Can I have your stuff?
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*
I do suspect they have people other than Developers that could perhaps participate with the community during their periods of unanticipated withdrawal.
I heartily support the developers and other that are needed to identify and fix the problem and hope they find a speedy resolution. However, I could imagine a situation where the company hired a community rep, and such a person could use twitter or a forum post that's locked as a one-way street form of mini-updates.
I'm not upset, I hope they fix the rollback problems, but if I was affected, it was only minimally (no lost NotWs if the rollback only affects the last couple days, for example). In the meantime, like said, read a good book, do something else, etc.
Here's to a new i20 update in the near future and fixed servers in the immediate future.

I still suspect it was an intern that spilled a cup of coffee on the server.
Both my classes for the day were canceled, so I was looking at spending some quality time with my new stalker, but instead I've gotten ahead on homework and beaten 4 Civilizations in Civilization V :/
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.
You know what would assuage my feelings of extreme rage an contempt?

Here's hopin'. I miss babs. But I do like the Z man.

Reading the announcements won't tell you anything about that. It's in the monthly Producer's Letter in Dev's Corner or the News Archives of the main site.

Z has been making regular posts to keep us updated on the progress of the restore.
If I'm in the mood to whine about something unexpected in the game, I usually go there first to see if my concern has been acknowledged or addressed before going anywhere else to complain about it.
New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Checking the Community Digest, where all the Community Rep posts are gathered in one place for easy perusal, would have answered the OP's concerns about the downtime.

Wait... CoH was down today? I didn't notice.
Always such a pleasure to read your posts...lol.
I find it utterly laughable that you believe that you are somehow entitled ...

The fact that a game not being online for a few hours one day can actually be a catastrophic event for the OP, and others, just shows me how little some people know about the real world and how things really work.
It's a friggin' game. It is not your power, water, food or even your ISP. In the words of the young-folk nowadays, "Man Up!"
Keep on postin' OP! I need a good laugh now and then.

Wow.
24 hours a day x 30 days in a month is 720 hours. Let's say you pay $16.00 a month to play. $16.00 divided by 720 is about 2 cents an hour.
Hmmmmm.
Here's 50 cents. Keep the change.
1. There was no question so it's a misplaced rant about server downtime.
2. If you don't like server downtime, I hear that one big named game has far more downtime than we do and CoH is actually rather low in terms of server downtime.
