mouse pointer hiding in plain sight
That worked. Woot, thanks!
Just to let you know I didnt try ultra first I went quality.
Before the reboot I was on performance.
How do you choose the cursor?
It will then automagically use the new cursor, no selection needed or possible. To change back to default, you'll need to remove the extracted files from where you put them.
If you install them while city is running, you will need to restart the game.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
I have an update on cursor customization, with some new cursors.
Things I found: Arrow cursors are 24x21 pixels, but textures must be a power of two, so the textures are 32x32 pixels. Anything outside 24x21 is cropped, so it is impossible to enlarge the cursor. I went for high contrast and raised it above the backdrop by using a shadow. The developers put checks in place to subvert using the same texture file for more than one cursor, forcing the game to exit if you try. HOWEVER, trash data can be used outside of 24x21 to differentiate cursors if you want them to appear identical. I did not do this as I find they still get lost easily. Hand and resize cursors are 32x32 pixels, but resize cursors expect the "center" to be in a specific place, so I stuck with the original dimensions. Preview: Download: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/120706/cox_cursors2.zip Installation: Extract the zip to your CoX folder with the suggested path. If the folders do not exist, you must create them. Fear not! This will not alter your actual CoX installation (like Vidiot Maps). Exit the game, relaunch. The files should be about 5.5 KB. Personally, I use Winrar. 32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\data\texture_library\GUI\Cursors\ 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\data\texture_library\GUI\Cursors\ The zip contains: cursor_hand_open.texture cursor_hand_closed.texture cursor_point.texture cursor_select_enemy.texture cursor_friendly.texture cursor_select.texture cursor_win_diagresize_backward.texture cursor_win_diagresize_foreward.texture cursor_win_horizresize.texture cursor_win_vertresize.texture |
You need to download the pack, and extract the contents into the right folder (directory). See this post above for the folder name.

Happens to me all the time too. I think it is because I use the mouse to turn, so when the pointer disappears then reappears due to holding down the right mouse button I can't locate it again (usually in a big fight).

Fortunately I use hotkeys for most my major powers, so its not a totally dire situation if I'm in a big battle or something, just a bit disorienting.
Thank you SO much for this Ruff Tuff N Buff. You are now officially my hero!
I know it's been a long time coming, but I have good news for you all: You wanted larger cursors? Now you can have them!

Changelog:
July 16th 2011
- Softened gradient found in black pointers.
- Slightly altered the hues of mouseover pointers.
- Added anti-aliasing to Hourglass cursor.
- Added shadow to Hourglass cursor.
- Added preview image and installation instructions to zip.
Thank you very much. Now if you could only make the grab-edges of the windows slightly larger.
Still here, even after all this time!
EDIT: Looking again at your pointers and seeing the double-headed arrow., I'll change my assumption and guess that Futurias is wanting the window borders themselves to be slightly wider to make them easier to grab.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
When you hover your mouse over the edge of a resizable element such as the Map, chat box, etc. you can click and Grab those edges to resize them. I can't recall if it changes to a double-headed arrow like it does in normal Windows apps or if it's something else.

Ruff,
Thank you for the cursors.
I'm playing on a 24" monitor at 1920x1080 and have been having problems losing the cursor against all the power spam for some time now.
These cursor additions look to be JUST what I need.
I lose my mouse cursor all the time. I can't determine whether it's a problem with the game, the computer, or the aging human player. I've been banking on the latter, though.

I've lost my mouser pointer on more than one occaission.
At that point I just start moving the mouse around really quickly and that tends to have me find it.

Any idea why I have no data folder under the CoH main folder?

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
Well I don't think it's a monitor or age issue, at least for many of us.
From i9 when I started, to i17, when I left, I NEVER lost my mouse cursor, even in Rikti Raids, whatever.
Now it happens all the time to me, even set to compatibility so it's larger, and when soloing.
The difference? I'm playing in a new computer with Ultra Mode, which I didn't use before. But I always used a 22-inch widescreen.
Really imo, the cursor just disappears sometimes. If it was an eyesight problem I'd have had this problem before I left. So I think it's something in the game. I've been testing two other MMOs (the other hero one that's free and Rift), playing Team Fortress 2 and I can always tell where the cursor is without having to move it, same as I coud in CoX before I left and used non-Ultra GFX, always on a 22 incher.
I'm on a 27 iMac now, usually running the Windows client, but as I said, in the other games and the OS - in Mac OS X the cursor is kinda tiny on 2600x1440, and I didn't customize it like in Windows - I have absolutely no issues in finding the cursor without having to even move the mouse.
In CoX, I usually do a circling motion now but even then it takes some seconds for me to find it. Not cool.
Well this new cursor set hasn't solved the issue for me (as I found out in a BAF last night) but its certainly improved things! Cheers
