I'm already keeping my eyes open and looking around for other locations (I must be mental! )

There was talk last year that GlobalGaming might be moving to larger premises near to Digbeth, and getting in more computers. If they do upgrade then that would be fantastic.

It's a little difficult finding something that's vaguely central, has all the amenities close by such as hotels/shops/eateries with the transport links and doesn't mind a small nutter in a wheelchair turning up and taking over the place for a weekend

If anyone has any ideas for next years meet* up, feel free to let me know and hopefully we can make it bigger, better and erm.. brighter?

Although they did cover our location/rental costs last year so perhaps they'd be willing to do so again for future meets, especially if we find a bigger venue, as the event is now growing.

I don't think that either of the venues that we've used in the past down in Brighton are still running - Gamer-Heaven or Netpama. As more and more households get computers the demand for cyber / gaming cafes must be decreasing.

I was there last year and would like to come along again this year for both days.

I've okay'd it with the missus, just need to make sure I have the funds available. Mainly for fuel as I'll be coming down from the north of scotland.

I'll have my own laptop with me again.

And I will be letting Kendai choose where we go for dinner again. That chinese was pretty good!

You have been assimilated....

Meanwhile, perhaps those nearer or in Birmingham would like to provide a list of their finest eatery type places for us non Brummies. Or we can all just go to Wetherspoons

Ooh, I would most definitely try to fly over for a Nottingham Meet & Greet! I have amazing memories of my time in Nottingham and the surrounding area

P.S.: Oops that comes across as me not being too fond of Birmingham, which is not true at all. They have great erm...stuff in Birmingham, don't they?

Kall... Nottingham! Lets do Nottingham for 2012! And then we get to convince Avatea to show up and be a part of the funz!

Oooo a Avatea appearance.

Nottingham could be a 2012. Maybe we could a poll for next year (tho the poll will be in 2011 so we have time to book etc) and see where people would love to have a meet n greet, idealy those who vote a place have to also inform us the place in that location in which we can meet up, then vote the fav out of the ones mentioned?

Hey, just wanted to pop in and say...

I lurked in the thread(s) about last year's event and enjoyed that while wishing I had been there!

And, Kal, you're a gem for putting these together!!

I'm in the states and I doubt that I'll be able to make it, but I just wanted to wish everybody another great time over there... And I'll be lurking and watching again... So, do post videos of particular persons behaving in silly manners...

While I admit it doesn't sound like a very strong argument, Birmingham is much better than everyone seems to think it is; they've done a huge amount of renovation in the last 10 years and these days it can actually be a really nice place to live.

I have 2 people in mind who are more likely to behave in such a fashion, you know who you are!

I have fond memories of Birmingham and I have to say people were always eager to accommodate our needs whenever we organised anything there. That said, I do remember quite a few players mentioning that without a car, it isn't very convenient a location if you come from other parts of the country. It was a few years back though.

I remember thinking that Peterborough would probably make a nice enough gathering town because of its geographical location as well as its accessibility by train from the South but also from Scotland. There are quite a few places appropriate for Payer Meets at a very reasonable walking distance from the train station, so you don't have to cross the dodgy areas. Things may have changed since I lived there though, anybody from Peterborough lurking on the forums?

We do our best to entertain, thanks for the kind wishes.

I will be on my best behaviour this time. I do not want to enter the place to hear a small voice stating, "I just need to know when Dante arrives..."

The trouble with the rail network is that it just doesn't connect very well.
Peterborough sounds nice, but anyone from Leeds and anything west of that faces a few transfers to get there.

South West up to 3, and the same for South East, but you're right, as far as something on the mainline 'spine' of the country, its beaten only by York or Newcastle.

Since both offer trans-pennines routes, and being from newcastle I know that there's (or was) trains to Bristol and Birmingham. Which only leaves SE and SW in the lurch, and because of the poor layout, someone always will be, but the benefit of say newcastle, is that those not on the rail network, flights become a possibility, which is not so much for midlands.

Don't get me wrong, Peterbourough would be ideal for me, its either 2 or 6 hours drive, depending on if some stupid truck driver wants to spill Ethanol on the M11/A14 again. But then going home is a 5 hour to 9 hour (same caveat on the M11/A14) to me, that most places are the same distance or less.

Also, to actually talk about the current event, I'm not sure if I can make the saturday at all now, which is a bit of a pain, hopefully i'll get my plans sorted in the next few days.

While not from Peterborough (which would be great for me coming from Norwich) my dad lives near there and I know it (and the station/trains) reasonably well. Peterborough connects well with Leeds and the East of the country, also Edinburgh, there are also slower trains to Nottingham-Manchester-Liverpool and Birmingham. The only area which would be a bit of a pain is the SW.

What I'm not sure of is whether there's anything resembling a venue.

this to me sounds like an ace idea, and even though alot of people are now going, hopefully i can put myself down as a maybe too if theres still room, as luck has it i do actually have that weekend off as its like 4 days after my 21st as i have no hinderances such as wife or kids all i need to do to find out wether its a yes, is to research train times/costs/switchovers from exeter to birmingham, also will need to check when my nearest payday to the event is and wether i need to save or not. finally i will need to buy a bag full of pro plus so i am able to stay awake for 48 hours

if my answer does turn into a yes i will bring my own laptop

Mr and I would defo be up for this, but it all depends on RL stuff, naturally.

Would be great as it would be my 1st player meet, so we'll try our best to get there!

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply!

I can put you down as a maybe There's currently 31 people attending that I'm aware of, so it might be a little crowded but you're more than welcome to come down and meet some of the other players

Global Gaming did say that there was space for 8 laptops in the main room, and a further 8 in the back room (although it might be a bit of a squeeze), so theoretically there should be space just for one more person. I'll be checking again with them in the next couple of weeks just to make sure!

The list merge having happened, I'd definitely like to come to this. I can't bring a laptop, but would gladly share a machine both days.

What are people planning with hotels? I feel most comfortable going with the same as last time Paragon Hotel and they're only asking £50 for Saturday night.

I thought they were pretty convenient and the rooms were stylish. I think Mr_Mac stayed there too. But otherwise, I mean, has anyone found a better deal?

Slightly more expensive at £199 for 2 people for 3 nights, but it was the only one I could find with a disabled room and I will be staying from the Friday night to Monday morning, is the Premier Inn. It's also fairly close to Global Gaming. I know a few other folks have booked to stay there as well.

They also apparently do late night pizzas to your room o.O

If you're central in Brum, and are looking for refreshment, I can very heartily recommend the Wellington as a place to quench your thirst.

A rather excellent selection of beer (no idea about the lager situation) however they do no food. Additionally, the only big screen displays the beer list rather than footy.

The Pork Scratchings (forget being healthy) are to die for. Honest...
