Are you a Helper?
This reminds me of the Councilor Program in UO and the STAR Program in EVE. The only difference is both of those are monitored and require people to submit applications and go through tests.
If this is just an open-to-everyone program, I can see how this might be a tad problematic. Aside from people deliberately trolling people needing help, there's a lot of misinformation the average helpful person could possibly spread around without realizing they're giving out bad info.
I think it's great. People already ask for information all the time in broadcast, global channels. This will make it easier for them find those who are willing to help.
The Helper has a gold name, and people looking for help have pink names.

I can't be designated a Hinder and spread misinformation?
Branching Paragon Police Department Epic Archetype, please!
That going to be an option when you log into the forums once I20 is live, Cynical_Gamer. I myself plan on choosing the Hinderme option.

I'm a "Helper" but I use "Help Me" because it's "pink" period.

So if I flag myself as Helpme will people start giving me free stuff?

I'm gonna make sting operations. Start a trial account, roll a character, use the "Help me!" prompt, and if anyone gives me purposefully bad info, /petition them to the GMs.

I too seen this, but has anyone noticed a way to change this once you choose one or the other?

You can change it from the help window.
I think this addition, combined with the fact that they added a little '?' button in the basic channel buttons at the bottom of the chat window that puts you in the Help channel, plus the Help tab is a different color now... it all adds up to trying to make it easier than ever for new players to be able to find answers to their questions. Sure, there might be occasional jerks out there just to misinform, but I think for the most part this is a nice idea.

This sounds good.
I remember when I was playing Anarchy Online there was something called Arks (Advisors of Rubi-ka). Most of them where players that got into a Helper program. They did get an interview (i suppose) and started their career as "Greeter".
They greeted new players and came with advice, making certain that the player knew more on how the game did work.
Players had to have a char above lvl 50 (total game level went up to 200 + 20 shadow levels), but what mattered was their willingness to help make a good community.
As players, yes we loved them
Seeing such a program here as well is great. Just hope (for reasons mentioned) that there will be some kind of program of recruitment or some supervision of channels etc. Cause we don't want Jerk345 (made up name) becoming a Helper and start dissing and bringing false information to the new player.
Looking forward to where this is going though

I'ts an interesting idea, i like it. I hope it is monitored well enough to make sure a few bad apples dont make a mockery of it, but yeah, i will sign on as a helper..but one thing i'm making sure of is if i am fuzzy on something, i'll toss it to the other helpers, better to be sure than to guess and be wrong. hope this works, will make things really nice for new players.
Cool feature! I will sign on as a Helper for sure.

Hmm, nice idea. I might go Helper, too. Is this per character or global, I wonder? Also, do Helpers have a different color chat in the Help channel?
Aegis Rose, Forcefield/Energy Defender - Freedom
"Bubble up for safety!"
This is interesting... I wonder how it'll turn out when a HelpMe asks for help against the infamous Honoree/Captain whatsherface in the "Retrieve Canister" mission, and the Helper isn't up to the task...
Or when they need help against any other tough AV in their patron arc, etc
Is this just a feature for the B.A.F. Trial or the game in general?
Maestro Mavius - Infinity
Capt. Biohazrd - PCSAR
Talsor Tech - Talsorian Guard

Upon logging into the BAF sneak preview I was greeted with this prompt. I picked none but I did team with someone who picked helper. Before he joined the team his targeting reticle, name and badge title were yellow, once he joined the team everything that was yellow turned green.
I didn't get to see what color Help Me! turns the targeting reticle, name and badges.
So are you a Helper or a Helpme?
