Where is PC located Geographically?

I have yet to place PC in the U.S.'s geography. I know that it is in one of the original 13 colonies because it it is the amalgamation of colonial villages. I am thinking that it is in the Mid-Atlantic region because of the prevailing Civil War references and the location of the Rouge Islands. Have the devs ever place it?

It's an alternate universe Providence, Rhode Island. In this dimension/universe, Providence was able to successfully economically transition from the whaling industry into other and more profitable venues, becoming (effectively) the New York City of Primal Earth.

It's also impossible to geographically place as, if I recall correctly, no part of Rhode Island has the sort of bay area that we are shown in maps of the city. But you know, it's close enough.

This official history of Paragon City from the site is a pretty good read if you haven't seen it already.

Then again, to present knowledge a lot of Rhode Island has not been geologically compromised by the Lovecraftian Sorcerers digging beneath the earth.

Though, it's also pretty well known that Paragon is likely officially bigger than Rhode Island actually is.
It makes me wonder if other states and so forth look different.

I always thought Founders Falls had some striking similarities to Austin Texas. Even some of the names within the zone seem to have references to areas here in Austin. Might be all in my head, but if I'm not mistaken, part of COH development took place in Austin.

If PC is in Rhode Island that'd be kind of hilarious since they are usually excluded from CoX contests.

It seems so very far north on that map.

And we get so very little snow in Paragon.

Not a case of "if". In this universe, Paragon City has been in Rhode Island since they announced the project way back in 2004.

.... you know, you're right. Then again, Talos Island feels a lot like Seattle, Washington (where NCSoft recently threw up a new office) and Steel Canyon feels like Milwaukee, Wisconsin without all the rails.

That's just me though.

The bay was created by a collapse of a section of the gigantic cave network in the area.

The extinct volcano in the center, courtesy of Talos, doesn't help things.

It's Providence, Rhode Island, even though the square mileage of Paragon City probably exceeds the square mileage of the actual state of Rhode Island.

I appreciate that people want to debate this, but it's canon. I'm sure we could get a good update to the Canon Fodder thread from Manticore if we got a good list of questions drummed up, though.

Keep in mind that there was a giant volcano that erupted in the Rogue Isles in the early 1800s - the resulting tsunami could easily have reshaped the coast of RI and would explain why Paragon City became the dominant east coast city instead of NYC.

...I forgot what experience means.

That was my empath's doing, not long after the end of the Civil War.

They announced it earlier than that, I thought. Archive.org archives CoH.com all the way back to 2002. I think it's mentioned in some the pre-pre-pre beta announcements.

A lot of CoH can actually be seen (kinda) all over New England. Croatoa, from I remember, was supposed to be a representation of old Salem, Massachusetts. Dark Astoria is very reminiscent of the vast cemetary plot-lands of Newport, RI. Independence Port looks pretty similar to Fall River, MA and Bristol, RI..

Then again, without any specific locations pointed out, I'm sure that most players can point out specific parts of CoH that remind them of their own area.

IIRC, Cryptic was incorporated in RI, which is why they set PC there.

Just something I read on the forums once upon a time.

I've never been to Seattle, but that seems far fetched. Never been to Milwaukee, but I'm pretty certain it doesn't look like Steel Canyon...

Am I detecting sarcasm?

Not much of it, since many parts of Praetoria remind ME of downtown San Diego. Neon trim on buildings, very pretty indeed.

It isn't if you've been there. The ferries and tall buildings are very evocative of Seattle.

Having lived in Providence for 10 years and Rhode Island currently, I'll take Paragon any day.

Not that Providence is all that bad, but the mutants, Ghost ships, giant monsters, alien invasions and zombie outbreaks would be a small price to pay for no snow, potholes or traffic.

Not to mention the ability to explain away any tardiness to work by just saying to your boss "lag" as you run by.
