New Superman is cast....and is British!!
He was in Tristan and Isolde, Stardust, and The Count of Monte Cristo. Can't get much of a read off him from those roles, though, as they were fairly minor.

Interesting choice, he kinda looks the part. Am trying to remember him from the Tudors, just can't place the face right now.
The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield. |

Cavill looks like he can capture some of the presence and does have the appearance to suit up. We shall see.
And for someone that does not have the presence or appearance to play Superman, please do a google search for Nic Cage as Superman. Seeing Cage dressed as Superman is good for a laugh.
From his bio on IMDB:
Cavill auditioned for the lead role in Batman Begins, but lost out to Christian Bale. In 2005, he became a young contender for the role of James Bond, and performed in a final screentest. However, the producers believed Cavill was too young for the role, which then went to Daniel Craig. He also auditioned for the role of Superman in Superman Returns, and was reportedly under heavy consideration before the October 2004 casting of Brandon Routh. Due to this; In the December 2005 edition of Empire Magazine, he was dubbed "...the most unlucky man in Hollywood". |
I'll bet after seeing Superman Returns, Empire is probably reconsidering that "unlucky" tag.

His bone structure is quite similar to Tom Welling, so that might appease a few die-hard Smallville fans
I'm not sure if he has quite the right "ageless" look for Superman though - like he doesn't seem to have that young-but-fartherly vibe that Christopher Reeve had.

Not saying that you are like that, just making a simple statement.
This guy looks like he could do it. He almost got unlucky enough to be cast for Superman Returns, glad he dodged that particular bullet-train wreck.

Ill need to see him without the beard, clean shaven, and his face out of the dark, but I'm kind hmmm... over it. Hope it goes well.
why do they always say "as well as his alter ego clark kent" when talking of who is playing in a new superman project. Has superman and clark kent EVER been played by two seperate actors in the same project?

Interesting!
I hope someone makes a Superman movie that isn't a reboot of the origin and takes the whole Superman vs giant, celestial-type events to the live action screen. We can do that these days... let's see it! (just my hopes, not even for this movie, but one day, at least)
Since Mr. Reeve has been mentioned already...
Not only was he terrific in the tights and cape as Superman, but the job he did as Supes playing Kent was exceptional.
He was hilarious.
Besides the script and all... My main problem with the guy playing Superman in Superman Returns was his lack of interesting take on playing the role of Clark Kent. (And I shouldn't even word that as making it out to be entirely the actor's fault. Whomever was responsible... it just lacked anything that I found entertaining... from what I remember, at least)
Just my opinions.
So many truly great, talented and learned actors coming out of the works in Britain, so that is far from a concern and could be a great thing for this role.
We'll see!

Check out a pic of him as Theseus in the upcoming film Immortals. He's not huge, but he's freakin' ripped.
And while filming the new Bruce Willis flick Cold Light of Day. I think he's got the look.

Seems Henry Cavill has won the role of the Man Of Steel.
Honestly, can't say I know him that well, anyone know much else he's been in?
Seems to look the part though, so fingers crossed!
