How to amass candy canes?
Farm Lady Winter/Baby New Year's missions. Alternate between them, set the spawns to x8 and go to town
Buy them during the year to get a head start on them. They can be obtained fairly cheaply. And you do not have to turn to the RMT'ers. You can make millions by selling your drops at the market. and you can even get CC's cheaep during the event at the market, just not for the first few days.
Join every Lord Winter you can, he's worth 20 canes per defeat.
They're not soulbound items, so the quickest way (cash permitting) is to simply buy them on the market. Otherwise, the other posters here make good suggestions.
Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.
1387 badges, and counting
I had 110 saved up from last year. I listed them on WW for a whopping 5infl each. not my fault they went for 300 - 600k each. *shrugs*
Get on Lord Winter teams, as someone already mentioned. You could probably get more than a hundred in the course of a play session.

My Characters
I just click the presents and grin with glee as I butcher the snowmen inside. Their insides are made of candy! Just something fun to do while wandering the streets from mission to mission. Not speedy, but helps satiate my blood lust. For a while.
I run Lady Winters at /x8 spawn. I get between 60-100 Candy Canes a run.
I like the Lady Winter one over Baby new years because thier seems to be more body count, or at least the lay out makes it easyer to quickly hit them all. *shrugs*.
However you need to be able to beat down Lady Winter solo if you plan to complete each mission for the 5 Candy Cane bonus. I do, but I know many were complaining they couldn't solo her.
Stacking 8 Crysatlize can kinda due that lol.
Last Night Candy Canes spiked to 600k each O_o
Only reason I was even farming them was to buy the badges I missed on this toon.

one of my toons has made almost 300 total candy canes so far, i got 70 doing a few hours of present hunting, then i started farming the lady winter mish cause it took me 5-10 min to complete, and setting lady winter to spawn as an AV gave me a good cash boost since the toon i was using can solo AV fairly easily (especially her)

Also, for those who want to try Lady Winter solo and are having trouble, just clear the map on a high spawn setting and then drag her to the mission entrance point. There was a small army of those reindeer ally creatures standing by to assist with the beat down (set for x8). It was the only way my brute could solo her as an AV (I had the damage output to get her down, but her debuffs will stack and strips 10% from defense and resistance per application).
Great farm map.
Ah, 'tis the grindiest season of all, when my new alts tromp around Faultline and Galaxy in search of two hundred presents each... but the best part of all is the candy canes, wherein I need to figure out a way to get several hundred canes I need for the holiday badges that doesn't involve running the same damn mission a hundred times or fighting off temptation to turn to the gold farmers on the off chance I can afford the ones listed for half a million each.
Anyone have an idea? |
So the best advice that was given was buy them during the off season for 50k each. I stocked up 2,000 at 30-50k and have sold them all for between 150k and 600k, but I also used up quite a few getting the hat and jingle jet and snowflake emote for many characters.
The second best advice is the Winter Realm teams. You get the present badge, some merits, and some canes too. But that might feel like farming for you.
Other than that you really are looking at farming or paying. Rare salvage is going for 3-5 million right now, if you have a solid AE character you can make a lot more inf now than people were during an exploit since there's more demand and less competition. which might help you afford them, and you can do lots of different maps/stories rather than just farm one over and over.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
Go. HUNT. Kill presents.
Also if you wait until lather in the event the price should drop. Farm some now, sell them for 500K each and use the money to buy more canes in a week or so. I guess that's a sort of reverse flipping.
it's not like the event is any big mystery...we know it's coming every year.
Stock up in the off season when they're cheap, bust them out when the event hits to buy all the stuff you want.

I was on my Praetorian last night, and just tagging presents in between mission, I nabbed 33 CC's. It was a level appropriate zone, so clearing any spawns when I was ...naughty... <.< got me some CC's as well.
There are 4 ways to generate candy canes
1) defeat winter mobs
2) complete the Lord on Winter instance
3) Complete a Baby New Year/Lady winter misson
4) click presents
Additionally you can buy them from the market
There are no short cuts. You have to do some combination of those 4 to earn the canes

Ok,
I have read this thread and I still haven't seen a real STEP-BY-STEP way to amass Candy Canes, so I offer this. I will begin this process as a new character, just in case.
*Note - This method can also be used to generate large amounts of influence.
1. Kill two or three bad/good guys. (You will need the influence.)
2. At level 1, find a present somewhere on the beginning map. Open it. If it does not give you one Candy Cane, move to the next one.
3. Once you have your Candy Cane, move to the Auction House (Wentworths for heros, Black Market for Villains)
4. Sell your Candy Cane for 100,000 influence.
5. Go adventure for a while, or log out for a while.
6. Log back in, or go back to the Auction House. Get the Influence. Offer to buy a Candy Cane at 80,000 to 90,000.
7. Go adventure for a while, or log out for a while.
8. Log back in, or go back to the Auction House. Get your Candy Cane.
9. Repeat steps 4 - 8 until you can buy two.
10. Repeat steps 4-8 with two until you can buy more.
11. Once you can buy 15 Candy Canes, now you are off to the races. Buy fifteen Candy Canes, sell 13 and save 2 for your self.
This entire process can be done in a day. But the time my weekend was over I amass 300 plus Candy Canes, and well over 40,000,000 Influence. But I never knew when to quit so began upping my selling price to 150,000 and 200,000...and began making MORE influence. Now, after a week and a half of play time, I have over 200,000,000 in influence and items at level 36. More importantly, I amassed well over 300+ Candy canes
This method also earned me a few auction badges and a few extra slots for the Auction House (Oh no!! Not more slots to buy and sell Candy Canes!!! ANYTHING but that!!!)
If you like, you can just hunt presents until you have 8-10 Candy Canes, and jump-start the process at step 4. This is the way I recommend. While adventuring, hunt present...then go to step 4.
This process, is what I call "flipping Candy Canes," especially when you get to the buying and selling of a couple of hundred Candy Canes at a time.

(The market takes 10% of your selling price)
Although the idea is valid, selling for 100k and buying for 90k, it will take forever until you can buy 2, unless they sell for more than your listing price
(The market takes 10% of your selling price) |
I agree, if you are only making 10% and not gain Candy Canes from any other means, as I suggested later in the post, or making 20%-80% (because buying costs fluctuate).
But I personally did it this way in a weekend, just playing "stock market" with the auction house. As a matter of fact, it was so much fun (for me) I started looking at the New York Stock Exchange.
