An "I Quit" Post

I quit City of Heroes.

No, really, I did. A few weeks ago, I told some of the people closer to me that I was quitting, sent my feedback quietly to a red name, and even reevaluated my budget now that this $15 a month as freed up. One of the last things said red name told me was "I hope that you find something in a future Issue that can bring you back." I politely told them something akin to "Ya right" and resumed closing up shop.

Then I read the Issue 19 notes in detail on I19's launch day.

"Character switching without logging out? Cool, now I can mix up my play styles in one sitting more easily. Nifty, if I were staying."

"Power Animations? Well, Marcian, the only reason you didn't pick supernatural powers was because it bothered you that all characters used the same animations. So, that opens up whole new power sets for you."

"Incarnates... so now my level 50 is relevant again. Wait, and the story makes him stronger than Statesman or Recluse!?"

"Praetoria got fleshed out some more!? Didn't I just vent that there was no auto mission generator? Did they read my mind!? You said you'd only use Seers for good!"

-----
In all seriousness, Issue 19 handily takes care of the vast majority of the reasons I'm quitting. I knew the update was coming for a while. There's a difference, however, between hearing something will be happening soon and actually logging on and having said options laid out before you.

I tried to leave, but they keep me in. Again and again. I can only imagine that I20, in all its shrouded secrecy, is going to crabshell us with some incredible other feature that keeps me in the game.

Good job, Red Names. You all collaborate on a fine project.

City of Heroes has no damn right to be so fun. No right at all. A six year old MMO that endured its share of studio drama does not retain people this well.

Maybe I should open up a snow shoveling business. In hell.

Necrobond - 50 BS/Inv Scrapper made in I1
Rickar - 50 Bots/FF Mastermind
Anti-Muon - 42 Warshade
Ivory Sicarius - 45 Crab Spider

Aber ja, natrlich Hans nass ist, er steht unter einem Wasserfall.

Thats one of the problem with a MMO.

You simply are not going to satisfy all of the people all of the time. Its up to each individual to find what makes THEM excited to play and if you can no longer find that reason then maybe its time to move on and try something else. I think CoX tries to really give people what they want.

Im pretty much here until they turn the servers off.

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

A great guildmate and friend from another game, a long time ago in a... blah blah blah..., once taught us all the great benefit of quitting.

Every single time that guy quit (Not the game, but any task, mission, effort, attempt at anything) success finally came rolling in.

It can't really translate so well in words... but, you know how it is... a hypothetical example... That Task Force debacle where it's just you and a group of underpowered closest friends throwing every single thing you have at an AV and you just can't win... But you keep trying, over and over and over...

Finally, after exhaustive efforts... My friend declares he is QUITTING!! It can't be done!
Suddenly we win, lickitysplit. He wouldn't leave/quit... but we found the trick was to truly lose all hope/belief that this will be a successful run. Give up. Surrender. Quit. It is the key to success... O.o

Such things, in various circumstances happened time and time again.

We all have carried that to various ventures with our own lives (we all still keep in touch)...

And the words, "I QUIT" sound, to us, like the horn of Gondor, leading us on through our mortal pains through impossible odds towards triumph over the evil that sets to destroy our world.

Quitting has magic far beyond our ability to understand!

I'm unlikely to quit. Only way a company has ever gotten me to leave their MMO is telling me that they don't want me and that they don't care whether people are injured or die as a result of their proposed policies. Other than that, as long as the game stays fun, I'm good, and I don't see it ceasing to be fun anytime soon.

Electric/Ice Tanker using Kick (it's a concept thing) slotted with 1 accuracy and 3 damage SOs...

Without the Incarnate Damage Boost equipped: average damage 72.87
With the Incarnate Damage Boost equipped: average damage 76.47

Look out, States and LR! There's a NEW Incarnate in town, and he's gonna... Hey, stop that laughing. Come on, you guys! Seriously!

On the other hand!

I leveled up the 3rd build this morning and slotted just two damage SOs in the attacks and damage auras, and then slotted extra taunts and slows and holds and whatnot where appropriate, and that did turn out kinda cool, as he still had the standard 3 SO damage output but also got some extra (if not particularly dramatic) effects added in. In that regard, putting the Damage Boost in the Alpha Slot proved to be, shall we say, something of a diversifying enhancement for that tanker.

On his main build, however, with various IO *sets* providing various bonuses, the Damage Boost isn't quite as handy. The recharge boost would probably work better there.

Anyway, I guess that's why they gave us that 3rd build, eh?

The 4channer in me read your subject originally as "'An Hero' Post", FYI.

I'd say welcome back, but hey, you never left. Get back to work, you.

Sorry, Marcian. For the last time, there is no moon base in I20.

Bad news, Marcian. You're the only one who actually pays $15/month to play the game. The rest of us have been playing for free all this time.

It's all a plot to slowly drain your bank account and break you.

P.S. - There are five lights.

I love the idea of "crabshell" being a verb!

What does it mean?

Hey everyone, I'm back! What's changed in the game since I've been gone?

Similar to "blind side"; It's when an abstract idea suddenly strikes you with full force and importance. Origin: My boredom.
