Halloween Mobs
On my 12 DB/Inv scrapper, I was going to the hosp for every single group except 3 minions. And on my 50 blaster, I got sent to the hosp a couple times by Boss + Lieut group.
Negative comment ahead.
While normally I like the Halloween event for Co*, the only word I can use right now is disappointed. I was not here last year, so the combinations of things will be included. The door mobs are still to powerful. Even con zombies from the door should not be tearing my scrapper apart. (It was the last mob standing from that spawn.) I know werewolves were always nasty, as were the Fir Bolg contigent, but right now they are ripping us apart at the low levels. The extra addition of multiple bosses with a duo, much less 4 lieutenants, is also making things difficult. One door was opened 4 times, and we got a Vampire Lord, (at least one) each of the 4 times. We leveled up and the door would not open for us anymore, so we could not go for Lord number 5.
For the risk involved, the rewards are less than even. What happened to the big inspirations? Why did they take them out? It's bad enough that they are not found in the Shadow SHard anymore. They are very rare, and at high levels, the tier 1 inspirations are not all that effective.
I have not tried the Apocalypse, so I can't say how hard it is under ideal conditions, (Love some of the descriptions of the mobs though.) but as event fatigue sets in, fewer people will be willing to do the event, and those that were not able to log in those first few days are out of luck.
I like the idea of the tip mission, but the mob spawns are far to large. We were getting 6 spawns in a duo, with two of them being lieutenants. Oddly, I do not recall any bosses, other than the elite boss at the end. Having to fight through those in 5 minutes or less seems impossible, and the glowies do not add enough time. The same with the ambushes. There is not enough time to rest between them, and if you move a bit to far, they can appear right next to you. I do like that it allows the access of the Witches cap, which despite jokes around here, is hard for a hero to get. Despite several past attempts to get a KHTF going, there were no takers. On a Saturday night.
As much as I like the game, I am disappointed I stayed with Co* for Halloween. Mrs. Arachnia was looking forward to the event, and now does not even want to log in and play it. As for me, I would almost rather play the console game we purchased last week.
For those that disagree and like the event, I am glad! It's just right now, this 'challenge' is not fun for us. It's tedious, and feels like a job, not entertainment.
I had no trouble on my L36 scrapper, nor on my uber-tanker (my L34 Storm/Ice defender; which gave me a huge laugh when some L40 griefer opened the door next to me and teleported away, and I proceeded to wipe out his mob).
My blaster, though had a hell of a time beating anything that came out of a door. I only had one trip to the hospital, but, after about 5 or 6 fights ending up barely alive at the end it was just too tedious to bother continuing.
Overall, I'm not impressed. The banner thing needs some major tweaking, given that if you play in the late hours I do, you may as well ignore it completely since you'll never get enough people together in a zone to take them out. And I've never liked the zombie apocalypse. It's interesting the first time you see it, but there's just no point to it. It's basically as fun as street sweeping and how many people do that?

I have to agree with this, November 1st hurry up and get here!
Its fun for certain characters and less fun for others.

As for the ToT mobs, being unable to target them until they've finished their spawning animation means they almost certainly get the first hit in. I believe there was also a recent change that prevents powers from being interrupted (due to an AE exploit) that may be affecting them. It seems that they'll always get that shot off no matter how quickly you hold them.
Of course, there are still people that don't understand the easiest way to handle it and group up on a single banner before they're vulnerable |
I have two characters for whom costumes are not dropping at all, which leads to my being unable to get the special tip mission and on this count I am pretty annoyed. One of them even has a costume badge meter that is moving, but no costumes are in his trays. Fun.
I too have had problems with TOTing with my lowbie doms..however..to my great surprise and delight..my lowbie Stone/Elec Brute is having a good time TOTing. She leveled from level 6 to level 8 in a very short period of time doing this. I am afraid for what this will do to her contact tree..but so far so good
And yes, Vamps hit hard...very hard.

haven't noticed anything unexpected on the couple of higher level teams I've caught on with, we pretty much nuked anything that stuck its head out.
But if they did get a buff you'd expect to notice it more at the lower levels, so I'll take y'alls word for it.

I noticed [the one time I bothered to participate this year so far] that the timer resets once the banners are defeated, and this is a good change.

Have you checked your powers tab? The costumes may not have appeared in your tray and you'll have to drag them there. If the bar is moving, they you must have a costume.

Not necessarily. In this post in a thread in Technical Issues on the subject, a player claims that a GM told them that you don't get the temp powers themselves when sidekicked. It explains the behavior seen by Bad_Influence here and the others in that thread.

So I can choose between teaming with friends, and being able to get the tip mission [which is what this boils down to]. Great.
Or you can get a costume power first solo and then team up. Just sayin'.

The same thing goes for the comments about the tip mission. The Clockwork do come in waves, but they wait until the previous wave is wiped out before spawning a new one. It's no different than how wave ambushes have worked since they've been in the game. The Clockwork aren't even all that tough. I just don't see how that mission is giving anyone difficulty outside of maybe the EB at the end for a low-damage AT who is solo.

Just did the tip mission (several times, actually) villain-side with teams ranging from 4-6 members. Big fun was had, but we never could get the bad guy to spawn as an AV. WAI?
No troubles at all ToTing solo or teamed with my 38 strong/pretty Brute. Didn't take long to get the tip mission - in fact, I've gotten it very quickly on everything (eligible for it, anyway) except my level 37 corruptor (which took around an hour, maybe a little longer).
Didn't have any trouble with my level 6 SS/WP brute or my level 16 stone/stone tanker.
My level 12 kin/electric defender got SIX treats in a row, then the seventh door spawned two LTs which sent him to the ER post haste.
I tried a few doors with my level 16 Necromancy/Poison MM and gave up quickly. The baddies would pop out and ignore the zombies which lead to a surfeit of faceplants.
No problems with ToT or the tip mission with my energy/energy/flame blaster or my electric/ice tanker, both at level 50.
Edit: spoke to soon in regard to the level 6 (now 7) SS/WP Brute - ack. <Bleeping!> Vampire Lords. First one she defeated, no problem. Second one, she couldn't hit the <bleep!> but he could sure as <bleep!> hit her. Hello, pavement. Third one, easily defeated. Fourth one spawned with a Vamp buddy. Wow, those clockwork guys sure do a nice job keeping the sidewalks clean!
I'm sure people will continue to go round and round about the banner events as they have in the past. In my experience, I've seen it taken down by a single team and possibly one or two strays. Of course, there are still people that don't understand the easiest way to handle it and group up on a single banner before they're vulnerable.

So, its more like a single team with the right mix of ATs than just any single team.
Now I'm not trying to say they need to make it possible for 5 characters to beat the banners. However, one possible tweak would be something like maybe the lead time between the beginning of the event and when the critters start appearing around the banners scales with the zone population. You can recruit full teams in the wee hours, it just takes longer.

As for the zombies, I was actually watching the zombies tear my /regen scrapper apart. The single lieutenant fell quickly that time.
But I do understand what you are saying Eiko. I may disagree with your observations, but I understand what you are saying.
I didn't post that.
OMG.

So I guess if you're going to ToT, and sidekicking UP is the problem, just have the lowest level person on the team be the one everyone's leveled to.

The mere knowledge that one must do research on the event in order to complete it successfully shouts "EPIC FAIL!" to me. I noticed [the one time I bothered to participate this year so far] that the timer resets once the banners are defeated, and this is a good change. But this event is still too much bother for many people. I admit to being one of them.

In the span of about 3 hours after midnight last night I came across 4 banner events, and only one of them had more than 5 people participating in the zone. Despite fighting at different banners, needless to say, they were never made vulnerable. The 4th one there were 8 people hitting all 4 banners and we did make the banners vulnerable, with about 15 seconds to go.
So, its more like a single team with the right mix of ATs than just any single team. Now I'm not trying to say they need to make it possible for 5 characters to beat the banners. GAWD they hit hard!
The GF and I were running a pair of DP Blasters (mid teens; DP/MM for her; DP/Devices for me) in Steel and Skyway on Justice last night. We could deal with almost anything that came out (Even +1 Bosses), but have two Werewolves blitz out the door... Hello Hospital!
Now's here's the wierd thing, Halloween Salvage.
I think the GF & I did about 2 & 1/2 hours of ToTing w/the pair mentioned above (XP off and was doing it for the Salvage mainly...). In that time frame, we got enough Salvage to have at least 10 full sets between the two of us. Does that seem right or did the Drop rate get tweaked a little?
Thank you for the time...
