Why fight Carnies?
Carnies are a bit annoying.
Malta are worse.
Knives of Artemis are ju-sifajfagnsdmbnargahrarharhar *sounds of violent mauling*
I think I may scream the next time I see an enemy group use caltrops...
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I fight Carnies because they're soft. By that I mean they're 20% weak to Lethal damage, and after facing countless "hard" targets with my swordsmen, axemen and so forth (that is, armoured targets), I enjoy attacking a few soft targets that don't take twenty hits to take down.
Of course, I do play with bosses turned off, in case anyone remembers my last year's rant, because it was countless Master Illusionists and Dark Ring Mistresses that caused me to do it.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

I fight them happily with my Spines/Elec scrapper mostly because their endurance sucking is like a tiny tickle to me

My claws regen stalker considers them free XP.
Love the gunslinger actionfigure mission. so insane on x8 diff solo
Caltrops are easy to bypass, just fly over em. |
KoA are an example of an easy, but annoying as hell villain group. Almost the opposite of the Carnies.
|
Yeah, the KoA arent that hard to kill...its just, if your a melee fighter, the caltrops are insanely infuriating. That, and the bosses have an insane duration stun grenade that can have squishies stunned for about 30-40 seconds. Which is LONG. And they crit from stealth, which can be immensely punishing.

Magic Salvage. Delicious, Delicious Magic salvage. Especially if you're playing your mid-level (25-40) characters.

I'm truly interested in knowing who likes to fight them, and why? In my opinion, there are so many other better and less annoying mobs to fight, so why fight these guys? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything like that, I'm just genuinely interested is all.

I love Carnies and fight them all the time. They are challenging, but not stupidly difficult. They are also beautiful to look at.
I could do without them. Every last one of them pull off that endurance draining attack when they're "arrested", and then there are the Master Illusionists who plop SIX extra enemies on top of you, one of which you can't even hit. And must the female Carnies scream like banshees when they're "arrested"? They're a headache and I truly don't like dealing with them.
I guess it depends on your AT, but I've never found Carnies to be that horrible. Malta are a thousand times worse.

Why fight carnies?
Well, my Stone/Fire scranker doesn't care one whit about their end drain (because he's fully capable of haemorrhaging his own endurance, non-IO build), and happily burns his way through +1/x5 spawns, bosses and all.
On a team they can be horrendous, but solo, they're a nice challenge if you're got a toon who can mitigate the nastiness in there.
Off the top of my head, with Carnies, you're facing:
Lethal/Energy Damage (Jugglers/Attendants)
Smashing Damage with stuns and KB (Strongmen)
Fire Damage with potentially multiple stacking burn patches(Seneschals)
Lethal Damage with -Def (Fencers)
-Tohit/-dam (Steel Strongmen Mask of weakness, Dark Ring Mistress & Dark Servant Twilight Grasp, which also has -regen in there, too)
Psi Damage (Illusionists, Master Illusionists, Dark Ring Mistresses)
MASSIVE -Def, -regen, -recovery debuff (Dark Ring Mistresses, Mask of vitiation, my candidate for the most grossly overpowered debuff faced in the game)
Lots of holds (Illusionists, Master Illusionists, Dark Ring Mistresses)
Oh, and the AoE end drain upon defeating them (almost forgot that one)
That variety of threat makes them entertaining to burn by the dozen when you find a toon that can cope with it
In fact, my Stone/Fire scranker has been weakening Vanessa DeVore's mental defences for months by attacking her on the psychic plane for the hell of it.

The above post may contain Cynicism, sarcasm and/or pessimism. If you object to the quantities contained, then tough.
I love fighting Carnies on my db/da scrapper because they just kinda die and I don't even notice their silly little stunts. On my blaster, not so much. Honestly Carnies are way down on my hate list, below Tsoo and the reigning champion of "will drop mish on sight," the CoT.
Soloing +2 master illusionist bosses is a challenge for me with any character. For the characters that I attempt it with, I'm usually keeping my difficulty at x2 heroes and +1 or +2 levels.
This puts me back in my place and lets me know that I really have something to look forward to with more purples/PvP sets (thank you HV merits!) and the yet to be released incarnate stuff. When I can slice through a defeat all filled with about a dozen MI spawns I'll know that my hero has become a true incarnate...
Add me to the group that loves fighting carnies. Many of my high level characters I play regularly ignore their end drain (electric, dark armor), have high defense (night widow, crab spider, etc.) and/or bring a lot of lethal damage that makes them fold like a house of cards.

Read the Patriot newsletter. It's right, it's free.
There are some team/characters who have 75% psi resistance and at defense cap for all 3 positions and do lethal damage which they are vulnerable to.
I know the VEAT team I am on loves fighting carnies because they are so easy to kill.
What we skip are things like Soldiers of Rularuu. There is a reason why defense softcapped people avoid them. 45% defense isn't enough.

2) They are soft and squishy to weapon using characters, and I like my weapon characters.
3) They are almost never found in caves.
Number 3 is far and away the most important reason I fight Carnies.

Amongst my hobbies are a few not so pleasant tibbles, for example, taking a naive young stone tank to face Carnies.
As a Mind Controller they never really bother me much, except the Psi Resist they have. I can see how they could be trouble for people who can't lock them down though.
Master Illusionists are fun, they're just begging to be confused with 6 pets at my...sorry their disposal ;-)
