Clearly this game is unpopular
Infinity and Justice were red yesterday - yellow today means the game is dying.

Didn't you know? Red means "stop" as in "this server has stopped". Freedom used to be there, but they shut it off now. Yellow means "slow down" as in "we're shutting this one down soon".

It's really been fun to see all these people on. Even a few true newbies. That's always a treat.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
It was the same at 1 am CST. Precinct 5 was so packed, Officer Flint had to call for backup.
And that's when they sent me in to Praetoria, to get a handle on things.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages
To play devil's advocate, that screen only indicates the # of players logged in compared to server load. If each server only handled 100 players, would you still be impressed?
It took me a good 3 minutes last night to build an 8-player PuG at 2:15am ET.
Clearly people hate this game and nobody wants to play it.
DOOOOooooooOOOOOOOm!
What do the traffic lights indicate?
Is it measuring number of players logged in, or some form of server load which may vary depending upon what players are doing? If the latter - are the new Praetorian zones/missions more server-intensive than the old zones/missions?
Just asking - not dooooming or mooooding, but I suspect it's not just an indication of player population.

Considering before the expansion all servers were green...

Yeah, gonna need a server merge, starting with Pinnacle first thats the lowest pop server according to some guy in the suggestion forum a long time ago making the bi-daily server merge suggestion.

well, lets not celebrate too much, i'm thrilled to see the current boom, now lets do everything in our power to KEEP THEM. Find a noobie and help them, see a new person on the boards, be nice to them. this is a chance, how it is handled determines the future.

Okay, all joking aside, I think a little extra effort at being welcoming and helpful wouldn't hurt. Let's go have fun out there...

IIRC, someone once did a rough metric back then. You needed something like 4,000 concurrent users to yellowline a server and 6,000+ to redline it. As a point of reference, WoW's servers from about that same time were independently verified to start queuing players at 2,500 concurrent connections. So, at the point a WoW server would have been too full to let anyone in, our servers would have still been showing "green."
Now, they may have pared back resources as demand shifted... but I doubt it.

I'd love to see our sub numbers stay up, but even if there's only a surge-and-drop effect, if the surge is big enough to cover the expansion's development costs, that's still enough to justify additional expansions & sustaining the game between those bursts.
Let's not bank on that- be friendly, be sociable, be helpful...
...and for God's sake, Rian_Frostdrake, please don't scare them with Oddity McHuggens.
...for that matter, anyone seen Troy Hickman's "Disturbing Grandma" lately?
At the time that Virtue was hovering between Red and Pink, there were about 2,400 unhidden players.

It USED to be unpopular, but then a little thing called I18/GR came around...

On a completly unrelated note, does anyone have any Scope?
DOOOOOM!
I just pray this massive boost in players isn't a flash in the pan. Even I'm out of my hidey-hole for this update. Couldn't miss the opportunity to take my mischievous young mastermind on the path to being a hero!
Characters:
The Heroic Mary Grace (50)
The Mystical Thunderspark (50)
The Candy-loving Little Jenny (50)
I reactivated my account for Going Rogue and pretty sure many others did too.
But nevertheless, I was always surprised about people crying out Doom.
Sure CoH doesn't have WoW numbers in subscriptions, but compared to so many other MMO's it has a solid membership base and from what I can say looks healthy enough.
It's quite normal that people leave MM0's the older the game gets. Now that the zones are (where) so empty in CoH shows us one thing too. CoH has a lot of zones actually and the gameworld isn't small.
It's nice to see so many people per zone at the moment, but naturally it won't last forever. But pretty sure GR will lead to a few newbies and old returners to hang on to CoH for a while.
I just hope the effort that was put in GR will pay off as Paragon Studios would have deserved it. I'm having loads of fun again.
