Question: What powers do you want Alternate animations for?

Ability to turn off glow on hasten and superspeed.

All sword/mallet or no sword/mallet on powersets like fire melee, stone melee, ice melee, etc. For example, I'd love to use stone melee but I don't like the concept of using giant stone/crystal mallets, I'd love to have the option of just using stone fists for all the powers.

Aid self animations without tricorder.

Midnight grasp using something other than tentacles.

Less acrobatic/more realistic dual pistol animations. The current animations are nice but they don't fit most gun toting hero/villain concepts.

Claws eviscerate, something without the gymnastics move.

Alternate to anything that uses the chest thump animation like tough.

Ability to customize granite armor somehow.

Dual pistols - Though I love the animation, would be nice to see a more 'western gunslinger' set as well. Also, DP seems really tough on the redraw so even though I love the twirling 'draw' of the pistols I would like to see the lag reduced. I've created a DP/Traps corruptor and it is annoying that he puts the guns away every time I use a trap.

At the very least, mirror the dual shot animation so that the DP character isn't always spinning the same way. Alternatively, mix it with the mastermind equivalent to change things up.

Super speed / Hasten - Remove the effects or allow me to change the colors.

Aid self/other - Add a magical/superpowered version of this to accomodate non tech or natural origins.

Teleport - Add a smoke effect option with a less... irritating sound. I like teleport but it gets really irritating after a while listening to that brash sound over and over.
(which gives me another idea.... give us some sound options!)

I'm not sure how much this matters at page 36, but did someone remember to mention claw swipes coming from the fingertips early on? 'Cuz we need it.

Earth Melee/Fault:

I would love the option to use the stone spears/new Foot Stomp animation, where you pound your fist into the ground, with your fist covered by rock/crystal/lava

Earth Melee/Tremor

An animation where you slam your heavy mallet into the ground, similar to the carny strongman, would be great.

Also, I was thinking of about the possibility of a guns drawn "ready stance" that more closely resembles something you'd see in a FBI/Detective/Spy movie = tilted perpendicular to the ground?

Off the top of my head.

  • Hasten/Super Speed a NoFX option please.
  • All blast sets that shoot from the hands/head to have Pistol, Rifle and Cannon versions.
  • This entire thread...
  • Shoulder shooting for AR. Because you know some of our toons know how to shoot.
  • Leadership have the targeting drone animation usable for the Leadership pool.

    A blue light for Maneuvers
    A red light for Assault
    A Yellow light for Tactics
    Or just a color tint-able version like devices gets.


    Option 1. The drone rotates around your head. (Same as current Targeting drone animation.)

    Option 2. The Drone(s) floats over left shoulder.

    Option 3. The Drone(s) floats over right shoulder.

I'll throw in my two cents here in that there's an actual interesting animation change I would like to suggest.

How about an alternate animation for superspeed that isn't just 'No fire feet,' since that is more an effects option than a truly different animation, and an actual ANIMATION difference?

Backflips, handsprings, cartwheels, blur/afterimage effect trailing behind you like the blue afterimage in Hail of Bullets. You know, actual ANIMATION differences in the way an avatar/model moves?

How about an alternate animation for Superjump that uses the Ninja Run jump animation? It wouldn't conflict with the booster at all as it would just be taking the jumping animation from the power and nothing else while applying that nice new animation to a power that is otherwise very boring to watch.

How about finally giving us word on any progress made with altering Granite Armor so that it can be customized, even if this means rolling back to the power effect that was used WAY back before the DE-NPC replacement gimmick? Yes, I knew what I was getting into when I made a Stone tank, but I would REALLy like to see some options for this power so that not every post-32 Stone/X tank looks exactly the same when the proverbial excrement hits the metaphorical fan. I know I would very much be happy with a revamped original Granite model if it meant I could give it a Lava theme for my Stone/Fire.

How about altering the animation used when Protector Bots are summoned and any Robotics upgrades are used to something less immersion-breaking than seeing a high-tech personal upgrade/deploying system in the middle of an enemy stronghold like Council/5th caves?

The Jacob's Ladder power is named for the animation of the attack. A Jacob's Ladder is a scientific device that generates an arc of electricity between two wires that stand up at slight angles away from each other, and the power animation duplicates this PERFECTLY on a horizontal plane instead of vertical.

Seriously, I know the power looks a little boring, but a simple google search for the name of the power would have told you why it looks the way it does. It just makes sense that way.

In case no one has mentioned, I would like the old fly animation available for Hover. Not all of my toons that use Hover in combat want to float around like Dr. Doom.

New animation for Energy Transfer. I'm cool that you want to root me there all day, but make it look more stylish than what we got.

I'd love to see Midnight Grasp get reanimated that doesn't involve throwing dirty at the enemy and having anime tenticles contain my enemy.

Personally, I'd love to see Poison get Alternate animations. The theme for my Poison/Thugs is that she's a chemist, but it would look so much better if, instead of throwing around and spitting her chemical cocktails, she were using thrown beakers (using the dynamite animation that the arsonist uses) or aerosol sprays (a good use for the hated 'phazer' in the Medicine pool).

I would be very surprised if this hasn't been mentioned (especially as I think I've seen it requested somewhere), but it would be nice with some single hand animations for Energy Blast, except of course the obvious Nova, and maybe not Power Bolt. The reason I ask this is because I have dumped plenty Energy/ chars, because of tried Right arm blast themes with the single robot arm costume piece that have been too lame for me.

I'd like to see Spines get the same treatment Claws got a while back.

The single target damage of Spines is pretty lackluster already, and it's made worse by the fact that the animations for the single target powers take forever.

Claws got the "flailing wildly" animation of Swipe replaced, yet Barb Swipe still has it.

Claws got the "Baseball pitch" animation of Slash replaced, yet Impale still has it.

Lunge is the only single target attack that Spines has that doesn't have a ludicrously long animation.

I understand that the lower single target DPS of Spines is balanced by it's awesome AoE potential. The problem I have with it is that, currently, Spines' AoE output isn't so much better than other sets' that it justifies the single target DPS being so much worse.

In Bill Z's DPS comparison thread, Spines was solidly in last place by a significant margin, and it's AoE wasn't in first place by a similar margin. It could be greatly improved simply by lowering the cast time of Barb Swipe and Impale, which would give it 3 decent ST DPS attacks.....instead of the ONE it has now.

(I didn't read all 37 pages of the thread, so I apologize if this had already been brought up)

Edit: I realize this violates the caveat in the OP about animations needing to remain the same length, but I feel Spines as a whole needs to be looked at so people won't just see it as "that farming set" because the single target DPS is so abysmal.

Also, the effect of Focus and Shockwave should be colorable as well.

My Claws/Regen scrapper uses red Vanguard blades, and I had Energy Torrent (I explained it as a different use of the power source for the blades). I was very disappointed when power customization was released and recoloring the effect of Focus and Shockwave was not an option.

If you guys can make it work, burst-fire animations for Dual Pistols, please! I would love to use the Mini-Uzis without feeling silly.

More "realistic" DP animations is another desire I have, and a combination of the two would be sweet.

Since Clear Mind had its animation changed, I have mixed feelings. Naturally I love the shorter cast time, but I'd much prefer something more similar to the old look. Ring of Fire's animation would be perfect as an option, since it looks similar to the old animation, just much faster.

It'd be nice to have alternate choices for some of the power pool animations.

For example flurry could be given the old animation for thunder kick as an alternate.

And kick could be given alternate animations such as the current thunder kick and storm kick for those people who want martial arts with their dual pistols.

And boxing could be given some of the alternate animations for the super strength punches.

Also, Is it possiblefor the current Kick animation to not cause redraw? It doesn't seem any of the weapons would get in the way.
