Contiguous map
Nothing. This isn't something that I care about.

Between $49 and $59. That sounds about right for the pre-order of CoX2, right?

It's not exactly an impossiblity that I may be able to move faster than the game world "exists" at least from my point of view. I'm sure that the game could be programmed so that doesn't happen, but it's probably not worth the time. Especially if the only benefit is miles and miles of generic cityscape.
Besides, I spend most of my time on villains. Other than moving from PO to Cap what am I going to do with this open world? Waste my time flying over the ocean between islands?
I'd almost be willing to pay to have them not do it.

I don't have a problem with the current way the game works. In fact I prefer it to the way other games handle their map system.
It's a question/suggestion that comes up from time to time. If I recall, there is a technical reason they don't do it but I don't remember what it is. Usually, when the reason is presented, the consensus is to leave things as they are.... zoning is livable compared to the alternatives.

I'd rather it just be like that in CoX 2. Ideally, there'd be less instanced missions too and more events like the burning buildings in Steel Canyon.
I'd love to be able to use Super Jump to leap from building to building from Talos to IP.
They'd have essentially make one big map and place all the existing maps onto it. Then they'd have to add streaming technology to make it work etc.
It's totally doable, but it wouldn't be quick and easy so I'd rather the Devs worked on other stuff.
I have fellow co-workers who are devoted WoW players. Apparently, WoW has a contiguous or continuous map meaning no loads between zones but from what I gathered, to achieve this continuous map, their environments might not be as detailed as CoH is. Because of this, CoH might have to have "load zones" in order to load the next zone without crashing your computer or freezing up.
I think it might be similar to video games for PS3 or X-Box 360 that have certain load times between zones because the environment is so detailed within that zone. I often fantasize about what it would be like with zero load times between zones or when there is a Rikti Invasion and the force fields come down, being able to fly over the wall into the other zones. Hehe...

Pretty much the only thing about that plan that appeals to me, is the idea of the Devs trying to actually fit Terra Volta inside that little box in the middle of IP.
but really, I don't like the idea of having no zones- then everywhere could be as laggy as Atlas Park or Talos Isalnd. whee?

Takes me back to my first PC I played this game on. 3-5 mins to load a zone was the norm, I got very good at utilizing shortcuts.

This. No need for anything else. We've got quick travel, the only reason that people lag behind is their own connection or computer rig.

Nothing. The idea barely works with a fictional world. In a game set on Earth, you drastically lose reality. It would have to be set in all one city. After all, you can't go from Rhode Island to Montana then straight to Las Vegas. There are huge tracts of land between and many cities.
Personally, I like how we do it here. I always have prefered the zones in most games.
I'd rather the map were contiguous, the buildings and caves were arranged in such a way that they could really contain the mission areas and that those too were not instanced.
Just as I'd rather the game were an offline single player game with limited multiplayer and an awesome mod community that were constantly cranking out costume and power additions.

I actually like the back story behind the War Walls.
Other MMOs use an open environment and I think GR will have that too I understand so we shall see how it pans out.

On one hand I would enjoy it, because the vision of seeing the whole of Paragon City would surely be spectacular.
On the other hand, if it was all contiguous it probably wouldn't stand up to the vision.
Also with zones, you can always imagine other parts of the city which aren't accessible. The bits inbetween the bits. The unexplored and unknown. I quite like that feeling
I'm wondering how much would you pay or accept not having done for the contiguous map experience? In essence how much is it worth to you to have? As in there are no load ups between zones but rather continuous zone all the way from one side to the other with a "load up" between obvious points like rogue isles and maybe praetoria... though if that was continuous that would be awesome.
A lot of other MMOs have it and it doesn't seem like much of a big deal, as look at how successful CoH is, but it is something that I would like to have eventually... so, supposing that they could do it, but it would take a given amount of time, how long of time would you be willing to wait for it and how much would you be willing to pay for it if they charged for it...
Keep in mind, to do something like this, for Paragon City it would require practically a whole new set of map zones probably equal or greater than what's already there to fill out all the rest of the area we are missing, if they don't cheap it...if they cheap it, they could just say the war walls are just really massive and to get from area to area through the continuous mapping would take about the same amount of time to go from one side of a common map to the other...
