What's your Buzzkill?
I tend to play a lot of Kins, especially /Kin Corrs (I have 5 on Guardian alone). I also don't tend to play them in a timid fashion. I'm in the middle of the herds, right beside the tank and doing my thing, because, you know, I like to get my own Fulcrum Shift from time to time. That said, what kills my buzz is when I'm doing this on a team and the leader (or other teammates) start berating me for not standing back with the rest of the squishies outside the herd. I've even been kicked from teams in the past for playing a Kin like this. I mean, come on folks. If I'm going to die, at least I'll go out with a damage-capped Inferno or something and take most of the mobs with me. And that's if I even die, because if I die it means that for some reason Transfusion is missing or for some reason I've taken it off of auto-fire.
That said, it is highly amusing at times to have someone on a team that wants SB or so to ask in team chat "Where's the frikken Kinetic?" and that teammate receiving a reply along the lines of "In here with the Tank!". |
* That's the only way to play a Kinetic. I remember my Kin/Elec in the Hollows on a PuG years ago and someone said :
"Why are you running into melee? You're a healer".
Me : "No, I'm a sapper"
Them : "What does that mean?"
Tank : "It means he's my little buddy in the mosh pit"
I like when people get it.
Being called a Healer on my Plant/Emp. Do you not see the entire spawn hitting themselves and being Tentacle... erm 'loved'? I haven't even bothered healing anything for most of the mission!

Haha, yeah so do I. Generally I don't run into trouble playing a Kin like that, but there's always some shmuck that thinks that anything that isn't a Scrapper, Tank or Brute shouldn't be in melee range. I'm guessing they're of a similar breed to the folks that think being a Defender automatically means you should be a healer. More often than not when I run into such shmucks though, they quickly change their opinion when they see the kind of damage I can pump out when I'm at the damage cap 90% of the time, lol.

There are a few things, far less than in most games I play, though.
* Some maps. "Blue caves" in particular, also the huge Oranbega maps.
* Defeat all missions when you just can't find that one last minion.
* Bad teams. I pretty much only play in teams for TFs (well, duoing with a friend doesn't really count), and sometimes if a TF is taking aaaageesss it just kills the gaming mood for me.
That's about it. I guess I could add the anti-market whiners, but then again, if I got annoyed whenever someone complained about not having something because they can't be bothered to work for it, I'd be annoyed all the time!

interesting - if I had time and was properly obsessed I would count up the number of post that boil down to "do not tell me how to play my character", this being the essence of my buzzkill.
Most players know that there are expectations placed on the different archetypes, I learned a lot about that from these very forums. However, since there is so much variation in the builds it makes more sense to think that the person behind any given character knows how to best play their character.
My buzzkill - when anyone starts telling anyone else how to play their character. Teams are more dynamic when there filled with individuals.

Suddenly realizing that me and 1-2 other guys on the full team seem to be doing all the fighting while the Team chat is zipping along about some movie or the chat window is silent while custom AFK bubbles are constantly popping up above the slackers' heads, who coincidentally, all belong to the same SG. |

I also hate the overly restricted planning types - must have a kin for the stone tank (must have a tank), need a healer, have too many scrappers, etc
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

Failing a mission when it's not my fault. Like the boss that books it to the door or elevator before you're anywhere near him, or the idiot NPC that gets him/herself killed because he/she tears off after three separate spawns.
When I legitimately screw up, I don't mind. When mechanics beyond my control screw up for me, it's /ragequit time.
For me, mobs running away. Nothing like mobs scattering everywhere and bosses running off at half health to unnecessarily slow the game down.

Being on a TF and having the server go down... It's happened on both of my two favorite TFs, Manticore and Imperious... twice each. The ITF last night had warning because it was time for the 4am PST shut down, being Thursday morning and all, but when the 30 minute thing came up I was just like "Oh I hope we can do it in time....."
1) When a SG goes bad.
I don't know how many times I stopped playing a toon because a SG that I was heavy into desolved. With some toons the SG is as much a part of the toon as the costume and/or power choices.
PvP. I've enjoyed it in other games, but NOT here. For one, I get bored. VERY bored. I've been known to throw friendly Arena matches just because I am done, already, and want to go on to something else. I also think I have a snert-magnet that activates every time I set foot into a PvP zone. And it doesn't help that I pick AT/powersets that I like which are effective in PvE...which doesn't necessarily translate into 'effective in PvP'. Which just makes me feel horrible about characters I love.
And snerts, period.
Oh, and players who claim women don't play CoX (or, in fact, game.) I've actually had people *insist* I'm not female, possibly because my character wasn't wearing an armored burqua at the time. (The worst insister was with a character who was covered neck to toe. You got me on that one.) The better half finds it pretty funny, though. And as a very understanding co-gamer wife, I really hate the term 'wife aggro'. When the reason the wife is 'aggroing' gets mentioned, it almost always seems pretty reasonable to me -- and makes me *very* thankful for a husband who helps with the chores and the baby so *I* can play, too.
Aaah, I feel much better now.

A lot used to bother me. I have either grown used to it or just accepting of how hard it can be to make one of these games and most importantly please everyone. I now have sympathy for the devs and what it takes to make it all work.
If i can think of one thing that buzz kills me its my wife makin me talk about the color of the sheets or some othere inane thing at 9pm when im in the 3rd misson of an (insert tf here) |
It doesn't make me want to take a break, it makes me want to play MOAR!!!!!
I think my biggest buzzkill is when I'm going about my business crafting some recipes or even better finally got a rare recipe that I've been wanting for a while, and when I go to buy some random piece of common salvage, I find that someone has "cornered the market" and circuit boards or human blood samples or whathaveyou are going for 500,000 a piece.
Now I have so many super fun options, like trying to find an AE team for tickets to get salvage, or continuing to play in the hopes of a lucky drop. The best is when all my storage and inventory are bursting with salvage and recipes, but I can't craft it away because of BS market manipulations.
It is as fun as someone blocking the doorway to the university and demanding 500,000 grand to go in.
But it usually only lasts a day or two, so I usually just log off when I see it getting out of control. Still, that is one player making the game much less fun for other players. I have no time for it and I don't respect it.

Otherwise, people. Reason why I solo mostly anyway. I log on to CoH to escape the RL crap a bit, and the last thing I want in my happy place is having to deal sexist, rude, arrogant, eletist, stupid etc. people.
More seriously, lately, running out of things to do, lack of high level content added. I like playing my Scrapper at 50, and after 6 years, it's getting hard to find things worth logging in for. Of course, one could argue, hey, you had fun for 6 years, thousands of hours, that's pretty good for a game, isn't it? And while I have to agree of course, the thing is, 'because' I like the game in general, I'd like to keep playing... just there isn't much to do anymore for me. GR is (for me and my playstyle and what I want from the game) a gigantic letdown. I guess it's Issue 19 or the highway for me *shrugs*
Turning up for xp and finding someone wants to speed/stealth *everything*. I don't find sitting by the door particularly entertaining and I don't want 'earn' merits that way. If you're going to stealth everything at least say on invite.
On the flip side of that; if you're invited to a non-stealth TF, how about you DON'T stealth! (I had an ITF fall apart due to a couple of people "I didn't see" the "non-speed" part of the ITF I set up; funny how the others did and the message was the same in channel and the confirming tell was identical.)
Solo artistists; particularly on Master runs. If you want to clear three mobs solo and without team support, then go solo, set your diff to x8 and leave me be to team with people who want to work as a team.
People who think this game has a "heal set". "Debuff" has the same number of letters and syllables as "healer" so I don't know why it's such a difficult concept for them. Go play another game (are we still allowed to acknowledge there ARE other games?), this game has more nuances than "meat shield", "healer" and "damage".
Yesterday was a particularly bad day for witnessing stupidity.*

Woo, I just found a new one - go CoH. :/
I rarely play blueside and I just had my defender hit 30 a couple of days ago. "Hey, I should go do the missions for the auras and new costume slot."
So I go see the City Council lady in Atlas, who sends me to the scientist who says "go take down some Freakshow!" and I'm all like "... ok, where?" Seems I'm penalized for not having memorized blueside now and knowing where to find foes where; it didn't help that ParagonWiki was down, too. I ended up looking for those random=spawn single Freaks in groups of Family in IP, which took a long time.
"Now go take down some Rikti!" Time for this face --->
Redside, they at least suggest a map ("go beat up some Family on Sharkhead!"). I decided it might be time for bed anyways.
Really, why would anyone want to go to blueside from red come GR when you have to deal with stuff like this?
For future referece, and I am only trying to be helpful, head to Crey's Folly. You can do all the hunts in there and it should only take you a few minutes if you're on something that can do a good amount of damage.

Well, actually, it is a valid option to do that if you're in the 35-40 range, and the second costume and aura missions do nudge you towards Crey's Folly, but if you do those missions right once you hit 30, all enemies will be a couple above you as well as show up in large groups or with lots of bosses. Plus, Clave_Dark_5 was on a Defender and those are hardly solo-artists.
If you wanna get your aura right away, there's a few good spots to hunt for your enemies that are relatively easy to do. You can find Freakshow around the center island of Talos Island, usually together with a couple of Warriors.
The earliest you find Rikti is Crey's Folly, yes, but on top of the building to the right of the entrance you can easily find plenty Rikti Monkeys, so hunting Rikti can be done quickly like that.
While you can find the Devouring Earth's Will of the Earth in Crey's Folly as well, I personally find it easier to go back to Talos Island. Northeast of the center island you can find a patch of nature right at the War Warll with DE at around 27-28.
So yes, while the aura mission is doable immediately at 30, it requires extensive and sometimes even obscure (did you even know there was DE in Talos Island?) knowledge about blue-side's enemy group placement, and the game's suggestion to go to a hazard zone is just troublesome and frustrating if you don't know any better.
I know he was on a Defender. That's why I said *if* you're ever one something that can do a good amount of damage. I always run my aura mish in CF, usually solo or with someone helping me if I am on something that is pitiful damage wise. I nave never had any problems. The rikti are easy to get on the rooftops right by the BT entry point. There are hoardes of monkeys all over the roofs. Quick and easy in most cases.
Meh, to each their own, I suppose.

Without a doubt, for me this would be the immersion-breaking silliness of ambushes that can home in unerringly on my invisible characters from WAAAAAAAY across a crowded urban landscape.
This kind of foe behavior might make sense in some cases while transporting highly radioactive or magical items, or just standing around at the scene of an attention-gathering event, but in all other situations...you gotta be kidding me!
Mute teams.
Sucks when I look at the chat feed and see my name, and only my name, with the occasional "gratz" squeezed in. I understand there's work to be done and justice to be had, but c'mon guys, speak!
