The Unofficial EU Player Meet in Birmigham!

Would anyone be interested in a meet up?... I'm going to try and organise something I think, in the UK, unless one of you lot would like the honour instead

Looking to find out when you think would be a good time? Last weekend of September perhaps (25th-26th)? Out of season so hotels/B&B's would be cheap...

Where? I'm looking at possible places with lots of PCs in Nottingham or Birmingham that wouldn't mind sticking CoX on their machines for a weekend, but any other suggestions for suitable places would be good!

Trying to think of somewhere central, or at least easy to get to with places to stay and possibly touristy things to look at if folks get bored... Or beaches, I don't mind sand castles... Sorry, I'm rambling there...

Also, I think we'd need about 30 computers maybe? Someone to install CoX or a trial version or something on all of them... some of those trial key card thingamies? Anything else? I've not really tried to organise anything like this before, so help is appreciated!

When I organized something like this, I got in contact with a local gaming cafe and asked about group bookings, gave the probable group size and asked about putting City of Heroes on, they were happy to do so themselves.

As for attendence, it depends on money, really.

I'd love to meet up with some of the UK players in a social environment (I play on the US servers so having CoH available is not desperately relevant). I have exams in October, so would have to think carefully about your proposed date though.

I'll have to be checking my calender and possible avalible funds. If all checks out then i would definatley be there.

I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...

Good idea!

I'm a sucker for meeting up with other CoX players (and usually embarrassing myself in front of them) so count me in.

I can get to most places in the UK, so I'd suggest somewhere nice and central really so it's not too far for anyone to get to. If I might suggest, in the past the EU Community Reps have been willing to spring for some prizes. So if you wanted to run any contests etc so it might be worth seeing if our overseas lords and masters would do similar.

Guess we'll need more details before we can say for sure, but sounds like a solid plan overall, and I'd definitely be up for it ^_^

Right! *she says looking nervously around*

I would like to announce that I have organised a venue!

Date: Saturday 25th September till Sunday 26th September 2010

Location: The Net Adventure Cyber Cafe which incorporates GlobalGaming Arena. They are situated just around the corner from where Omega Sektor used to be. There's a map HERE, and they have off street car parking.

Prices: Half day pass - 10am till 5pm / 5pm - midnight - £7
All day - 10 am till midnight - £12
All night - midnight till 10am - £12

*Example 5pm Saturday till 5pm Sunday inlcuding all night £26

GGA only has 15 computers BUT in their email back to me they say they have space for a further 8 computers in the main room, and another room which can also accommodate 8 more. So, if any of you would prefer to take your own computers they don't mind. I know that I'll be taking my laptop, as will a couple of other people that have said for definite that they're going.

Hopefully will see lots of you there (I'll be the one disguised as a box).

Anyone from the North East (Durham, Sunderland, Middlesborough, Newcastle etc) that is going to have a look down?

If so are you planning on driving?

I ask because if you are driving or being driven down I am willing to chip in on petrol money and will bring my own PC with me to the event.

If not I'll simply come down by train as I did for Omega Sektor but will have to have dibs on one of the 15 PC's

Hm. It is tempting, though the SeffsComputer is immobile.

Well not quite. It can move 6" a turn. Which isn't much.

In your dreams, I'll still be there with all the days that never came.
And I'll be just a story.
That's ok, we're all stories in the end...

Well, with the 15 computers already there, there should be enough

Partner placated? Check!

Childcare arranged? Check!

Time booked off work? Check!

Count me in!

I will have to lay claim to one of those PCs as well. I could bring my laptop but it tends to start gasping and wheezing if I try to get it to play CoX for more than ten minutes at a time.

Oh and in case I forget to say it, thanks very much for organising this Kallandra.

Yeah, Birmingham is a pain from Norwich since they removed the direct train service, Nottingham would have been a whole lot easier.

Although I don't recognise the 9 hours of train travel unless you're not actually coming from Norwich: For the Sat 0757 -> 1138, 1922->2318 so 7hrs 45 ish for similar time at the event, I think this will count me out too, as I'm already going to have to fork out for that same journey for my OU study weekend a couple of weeks before.

I'm not. I live in a town on one of the branch lines coming into Norwich, which adds in travel time for that train and connections. I simply say I live in Norwich because A: Internet, and B: People don't really know where many other places are in Norfolk.

I get the feeling I'm gonna be lugging my PC up there seeing as I have the basic go-ahead. Just waiting for a full green light then the rig'll be placed carefully into a holdall and wheeled by train. Hopefully.
