AoE lawnmowers

I've always been a fan of AT combos that allow for (relatively) fast killing of massive amounts of baddies and was wondering, which combo would you say does this best? Besides fire/kin (i have a passionate hatred of them ) I would pretty much consider playing anything, and currently I'm working on a spine/dark scrapper which I'm having quite a bit of fun with.

So, who's the AoE king?

My fire/shield scrapper can do some pretty obscene things in x8 missions.

Spines/Dark Scrapper is really fun.

Mine is called " The Blotch" on Pinnacle/Triumph. He is a small boy that fell into the printing press at his dad's newspaper company. He was torn apart and combined with the chemical dyes, and now throws bones, gristle and inky goodness at evil-doers...

Fire/somthing blaster. Also AR blaster, but I'm not fond of those. Electric melee, if I remember right.

One of the most impressive use of AoE was done by a Super Strength/Fire/Something Brute. The Something was able to do a AoE immob, he would drop Burn, Footstomp, maybe more as I don't know that AT well. Really brutal brute.

Fire/mental/ice blaster has about a 10 second cycle on groups of 10 or so, but the incoming damage is problematic. I suppose you could carry 16 medium purples and reload when you run low.
My spine/dark was always on point for a big group, and was also a pre-inventions critter. It's a whole new world out there and I'm sure spine/dark works VERY well.

Believe or not, but I turned my fortunata into a AoE machine.

Aim + Spin + Soul Tentacles + Psychic Wail + Psychic Tornado + Dark Obliteration = is my attack chain.

I teamed up with a fire/kin corr for the fulcrum and Speed Boost to help with the recharge of Psychic Wail.

Hm, I cannot stress enough about what 2 crabs can do together:

- Flat 32% def vs all
- Flat capped ranged defense
- Nice res overall, especially to non lethal/smashing dmg

That's about survivability.
Speaking about lawnmowing:

1. Throw an aoe imm from PP
2. 2X venom grenade (stacked -40% res)
3. 2X frag grenade
4. 2X suppression
5. 2X aoe from PP (eg. disruptor blast)
6. profit!

I will say rad/fire blasters are pretty disgustingly AoEish. They have end and survival issues solo but on a team I've never had a toon like it...even my 3 farming brutes and my fire/kin and fire/rad trollers.

A rad/fire blaster has as much AoE output at level 20 as an of my brutes does at 50th...they just flop over much easier.

My fire/fire tank does pretty well, but compared to my spines/fire scrapper, its more of a hedge trimmer.

Spines/Elec is nice as well... never have to worry about end.

Though the AT wasn't designed for it Spines stalkers can unleash a nasty bit of aoe. Also from my own toon stockpile I'll add my plant/storm troller at 50% global recharge.

Edit: If your dual boxing or have a friend, a green machine team, two emp/sonic defenders, is one of the hardest combos to ever beat. They trivialize +4/x8.

My Fire/Dark Corruptor is pretty ridiculous on AoEs. At high levels, extra enemies don't even slow down her kill time; it's just more fodder for the flaming tar pit of doom.

Spines/Fire Scrapper and an Empathy/Anything Defender.

In fact...

The Defender could take Recall Friend. The Scrapper could go AFK and just turn on their toggles. The Defender would be able to farm at 50% efficiency just by teleporting the Scrapper and healing them.

Spines/Fire is just that awesome. It's like a flaming monolith of bananas...that are on fire!

A duo of doom would be:

Plant/Kin controller and a Sonic/Energy or Sonic/Fire blaster.

A team I once did which was amazing was a rad/MM Blaster and a Sonic/Ice blaster.

Yeah, if you want the 'best' AoE, for mowing down large groups, Ranged>Melee, just because most ranged AoE's can (a) be fired faster, and (b) hit a wider swath of targets. This is purely on the 'hit as many things as possible' scale. Blasters have an extra boost here as they have high damage, many sets have a good range of AoE's, and they can hit 16 rather than 10 targets with some powers.
Some other archetypes, however, can compete with other means. The infamous Fire/kin is a low-ish damage archetype, but has the ability to boost its damage to the cap. Crab soldiers can apply stacks of +damage from assaults as well as -resistance from venom grenade to be doing more damage after a continuous damage boost.

Where things get muddy is the fact that things often hit back: if you walk into a room throwing fire everywhere, things get unhappy and retaliate. This is why most assume by 'best AoE' you mean big blast firepower with toughness too. For lots of AoE+toughness, it goes to mitigation-heavier archetypes. AoE melee sets, crabs, some controllers, and some corruptors fall into this category.

My Sonic/Mental blaster is shaping up pretty nicely with two damage cones, a sleep cone and a nasty PBAoE. Its fairly safe to use due to the sleep and drain psyche (which makes a nice difference from my fire/fire blaster).

2 crabs or huntsmen is brutal.

Somthing like Fire/Storm corrupter might be good too.

Another good AoE Support: Fire/Cold Corruptor with perma Rain of Fire and Sleet. Add a Brute with Foot Stomp to the mix and they'll chew through most things with incredible ease.
