Super Booster UPDATE!

If they'd called it ANIMAL PACK or FURRY PACK and there were no animal bits the complaints would be understandable.

I'm personally a bit underwhelmed, but 'mutant' by definition encompasses a limitless range of possibilities and a given release has only so much room. The had to pick a direction and whatever direction they chose was guaranteed to enrage/alienate/disappoint somebody.

I don't keep copies of developer posts I've read, and I'm not about to go trawling through records, if that even still exists. You are well within your right to doubt my memory, but please understand that I am well within my right to trust my own recollection over your own. Again, I have no problem with that.

And again, my "argument" is merely a statement of how I feel. It's an impression that's pretty easy to disprove by developer action. If and when that happens, I'll get back to you.

Actually, "winning" as defined here is not as impossible as it seems, ignoring the fact that a certain small percentage of people will complain regardless of what happens. The way David has been handling his request threads is probably the easiest way to "win" at this. Ask players for their feedback, communicate with them to narrow down workable suggestions, then simply say you accept them and make no promises. Everybody wins.

That way, you make no commitments to do anything in particular at any particular time, so people who don't get what they suggested don't get to call disappointment, you get to communicate with people so those of us who were worried we were not being heard are now content that action such as we want it may take place at some point in some fashion, and when a pack does roll out, you know what people have been asking for and you have a good way of satisfying statistically more people.

Telling people exactly what's coming is a good way to build anticipation and a great way to breed PROFOUND disappointment. Vaguely hinting to people at what might be coming at some point is pretty much public relations suicide. I dare say it's one reason why people involved in Closed Betas are forbidden from talking about them even in vague terms.

Seems like the complaints keep rolling. I don't mind what I see in this pack. My issue is we are getting so little in it. It is poor value for the $10 we fork out.

I think people should come in and make their voices heard. I don't think it bothers the Devs too much either way. I also think the best way to voice your displeasure is to NOT buy the pack. Then they will definitely hear you. If this pack sells like hot cakes, I am guessing any concerns raised here will become...trivial.

Anyway, I don't think I will buy it. There's very little in it for $10. It's getting to be at the Cryptic level for value when buying these things. They got my money for GR and I'll just wait for those.

I like really like some of the stuff in this booster, and that is about as much as you can hope for. The one thing I was very disappointed to see was that there were no "mutant" claws. Some of the costume peices are very twisted and jagged looking....would have made a very cool set of claws. Plus is would have looked neat when paired with the mutant gloves.

I suppode the same could be said for Spines.

I was already planning on buying the pack, the new tail sweetens the deal all the further, the blades even more so. I too would like more weapons to get the treatment, and it is quite possible that'll still occur, but if it doesn't it's still a good purchase.

I couldn't care any less that the pack isn't all that Mutant-y. Whatever that means. I saw some good stuff in it, so it's worth my money.

Just my quick thoughts about expectations and what was said and all that...

I enjoy it when developers/artists share thoughts and ideas that spring to their mind before production is under way.
And that is entirely what I saw Posi's comment about animal parts and mutant packs as.

The Developers kick around ideas on their own, share them with the team, with friends, with taxi drivers, the team has meetings, they kick around ideas, they agree, they disagree, they argue, they debate, they come up with decisions and things get worked on... things get tweaked, changed or wrapped up... And ideas that were mentioned many moons ago may or may not show any resemblance to what ended up going into development or coming out of the process.

If someone wanted to nitpick and make a claim that something should have been done differently... they could say that Posi, or someone, should have mentioned that animal parts were not fit into production for the mutant pack, that they went a different way, etc.

I don't really insist that the developers keep a perfect record of what they have mentioned in fleeting moments of down-to-earth discussions, so much so that they make sure to come on by and mention any time a completely theoretical idea that they mentioned ends up not lining up with the development path the team chose.

I enjoy their candor in those sorts of situations. They're fans, themselves.
They get into the discussions with other fans and mention, "Hmm, animal parts sound more like they'd be in a mutant pack"... But when the team met and made their decisions of what direction to go with... A completely different path was decided upon.

This is a specific scenario where the animal parts do have a rabid fanbase wishing to see more (I couldn't resist). So, sure... in a perfect world, they might have mentioned animal parts were not being made for the mutant booster at this time (But it's not a perfect world and I really don't think it is a big deal that they didnt say any such thing! C'mon, we're all just people, waking up and sleeping and doing stuff in-between). And, don't get me wrong, I am one of the rabid fans wanting more animal parts. I'd love to see more animal parts. And I figure we will one day
In fact, I'm glad for the animated tails and the new bushy tail.
I hope to see a lot more than one booster pack could add... but that's just me.
Monstrous heads that can have more customization (horns and head details, please!). Fury/Hairy options for regular legs and monstrous feet for regular legs. Different looking canine heads.
Duck bills and beaver tails.
And some non-monstrous hairy, animal face options.

I was just making costumes on Test for the pack this week and was looking at new toons to make just for the pack. I'd bust out a Spines for the first time -ever- if there was a matching Organic Spines set. Same with Claws.. well - it'd not be my first Claws ever in this case - but I'd sure as heck make one.

As long as we can get Bioluminescent on Tights, I will be content. A skin option on the Armor would be really nice right now, I admit it. But the dealbreaker for me would be Bioluminescent with the skin option it has now ONLY.

I say "dealbreaker," but I would still buy the pack if only to get my little grubbies on the WINGS. There are other things I want in there as well.... but please make Bioluminescent at least 90% more useful than it will be for a lot of people right now: please make a Tights option.

It is comparable to the other origin packs.
You may not find it as appealing as some of the others for whatever reason, but two costume sets, a new technology in bioluminescnese, a handful of emotes and a power is on par with the 'content' delivered by the other sets.

On my part I've flipped from 'not buying' to 'definitely buying'.
I hopped on the test server last night and messed around with the Goat.
In the parlance of the fashion world, the sets "look good on". Specifically for the Goat, the organic horns fit my vision MUCH better than the kludge solution of Dreadlocks + Horns he's been using his whole career.
And the Bio pattern looks fantastic on his thin monsterous legs. I would've liked some alternate hooves, but oh well.

Of course this just fuels the "it's a DEMON PACK not a mutant pack!" fires...but i'm sure my ten bucks will sooth the devs hurt feelings. =P

I'm late to this discussion but here is my $.02.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Super_Booster_V:_Mutant

The wolf tail SHOULD be free as it fits thematically with already free costume pieces and does not match thematically with any of the other costume pieces in the mutant pack.

Neither of the costume sets impress me that much. I won't use them.

A temporary power that could turn me into a Rikti monkey and that deactivates all my powers? Are you ****ing kidding me? Hell no.

This will be the first pack that I won't buy.

it's hilarious how many people in this thread (and the other booster threads) think texturing and animating new costume pieces is some sort of casual process that can be tossed off in a few days and that the creatives should be giving us twice as much stuff for our massive capital investment of...ten bucks. And when they do add something extra they get no credit because it's a "cynical marketing ploy". And anyway, we should get it all FREE because back in the good old days we got everything FREE.

/rolleyes

Don't forget the "Jay hates us!" persecution complex everyone who wanted animal parts seems to have, and when pressed for evidence, simply imply that they don't actually need any, their memory is good enough, whatever that means.

I don't think Jay "hates" the Furry crowd... but I still love the mental image of him being taken to AnthroCon and running out of the Westin, eyes on fire, screaming, and plunging into what-ever river runs through Pittsburgh, surfacing on the other side of the river, still screaming.

It's also hilarious how, even after that conversation set sail, weighed anchor and disapeared over the horizon a number of pages back, people will still come along and resurect it for another good flogging.

I won't be using the power. I don't like the chance of a negative effect.

Other than that I think this is the best booster pack I've seen in quite awhile. I'd still really like to see organic claws, but you can't get everything! Anyways, here is my Claw/WP Brute Sam Sneed. He is getting a slight make over and will be using the widow claws which are barely noticable, so it appears he is attacking with the organic gloves.

Well, yes, but we are lacking carrots to tie to peoples' noses and ducks to weigh them against, so we have to make do.

Ok. That? Is cool. In major levels

I have been saying that all along... it just seems thrown in pretty much randomly.

I actually like the sets... I might have use for them on future characters.

The Tower in the Mystic Fortune power conveys a negative to the boost (you take very slow DoT for 10 minutes), but not to this extent... I'll probably be making sure it doesn't get added to my tray, much like how I always remove Self Destruct.
