This, by the way, is an excellent example of something that can already be accomplished with the current available parts and as such are NOT what I look for in the upcoming beast pack.

Am I the only one who can never see the pictures David posts?

Even copying/pasting the URL of the image into a new window doesn't work.

I for one never wanted the mutant pack to be a beast pack. I think what they did do is a lot more like what I originally envisioned but was afraid would never happen. I'm happy they are obviously working on a beast pack for the future but I'm glad non-animal mutants weren't forgotten in the clamor.

I'm surprised, although I shouldn't be, at how expectations leading to disappointment can result in such biblical-scale gnashing of teeth and rending of garments. I can only hope that a lesson about keeping things too secret has been learned by NCSoft and about putting your own expectations on an unrevealed product has been learned by us forumites.

Marketing's (or whoever's) real job should be to groom expectations to match reality in advance to avoid disappointment. If they had said 2 months ago "oh the mutant pack is going to be about human mutations not animals but we do have an animal pack on the drawing boards" we could have avoided all or most of this angst.

Secrecy once you know something will happen and approximately when doesn't serve any purpose at all in my opinion.

I can't either but a few people earlier in the thread quoted him and I can see the picture in those messages. I'm guessing his pic was deleted because it revealed too much? But I don't really know.

Given that the "OMG teh mutant booster ISN'T AN ALL-ANIMAL-PARTS BOOSTER!!!" outcry is only a few days old, and that it certainly took The Sexxy One longer than that to make the tail, I tend to think that the "Jay hates Furries!" notion is a bit overstated.

That is what I thought, but I probably should have said "can be creepy."

I know the term is not really defined, but generally I think of the ones with the mascot type heads as actual furry.

Given he's never posted to debunk that opinion, and this is the first animal part addition in...well, since City of Villains came out (I think?) it's not particularly hard to see where it comes from as a rumour, even if it did turn out to not be true.

Well done. Don't have a wolf/fox character currently. But glad teammates and fellow Paragonians will be pleased with this.

Even more glad to see clear evidence that diverse requests from the player base are being heard. It gives me high hopes.

As for that tease about what the animation department is up to... hmmm... I have my suspicions and they rhyme with yeast fun. But heck, new animations of any sort are most welcome.

Thanks again David and Jay for listening and diversifying this pack a bit more!

Are their plans for a Robotic Tail as well?

Thanks for the honest answer about the organic armor with skin. I really do hope that we get it and the bioluminant pattern on tights (and normal skin).

In the future (after we get the above! hehe) I'd love to see this tech/art applied to Circuitry patterns, Isles, Tribal, Supernatural Face (with glowing eyes), etc.

And to reiterate - I think the wolf tail should be free. I can see why it wouldn't so people will buy the pack but.. it should be a basic staple of the costume editor. Yes, people asked for it in the pack but I think most of those were wanting an entire Beast Pack.

I'm sure we can get SexyJay on animating you a new costume piece that does just that for you immediately. *eyeroll*

Like, say, finish the "Fall of the 5th Column TF from Mender Lazarus" or "Defeat 100 Minotaurs in Cimerora" or some such. As a dedicated hater of unlockable costume pieces, it KILLS me to see good costume pieces added to the game "for free," because inevitably they're slapped in as unlocks or inventions or TF rewards.

I will say this without a shadow of a doubt and without an inkling of shame - I would sooner see costume pieces sold as Booster Packs that I can then use at character creation than added to the game as *** backwards costume unlocks that I have to wait levels of and still ask someone to do for me.
Normally I would agree Sam, but I know for a fact that there would be no compelling reason to make the wolf tail unlockable. They just wouldn't. We've had absolutely free costume parts in the past that did not require unlocking.

Also, just to send the message home:

I was originally planning on buying the Mutant Booster, since I actually like the Organic Armor and Bioluminescent costumes a whole lot, but the sudden inclusion of the wolf tail feels like a cheap marketing ploy and makes me feel that Paragon Studios is losing a grip on its principles, so I think I'd rather keep my $20.

I'll keep pushing this as hard as I can prior to June 24th, because I know after that they will never budge for fear of upsetting those who really did pay $10 just for a wolf tail.

Thank you David! Thank you Sexy Jay! Thank you thank you!

I had no idea I would be this excited about one piece. Yes, I've wanted more animal bits for quite a while, but I thought I'd just be like "yay!" - but no! I am all atwitter over just this one piece! I've had a character idea mulling around in my head for a while but was unsure what direction to go with her, and seeing this, now I know! THIS IS SO AWESOME!

No, no, no!

It's BaBs who animates the PvP fixes! Silly

Good job. Personally, I would probably not make a wolf, but it's definitely a high quality costume, and proof of listening to requests.

With respect to the tail being part of a paid expansion rather than a free item: this may be the best alternative. I am not privy to how the build process and the paid content gating system works, but it may be possible that if the tail is not part of the paid Mutant pack, it would have to be held back until the next free content update. That would be Issue 18, which is scheduled for after GR. So: if the only options are $10 tail now or free tail in a few months, then given the vehemence of the demand, I can see why they went with $10 tail now.

Of course, as I said, I do not know if the devs have the flexibility to release content between major builds, or to include free content in the same update as paid content. If someone can provide an example of either happening in the past, then of course my point is moot.

Also: I understand the principle being stood on, but I still have to laugh a little at the absurdity of choosing not to buy a product because it contains more desirable features than it did when one chose to buy it.

Preach on, brother!

I completely agree about the sheer lameness of "unlockable" content. I'll add that I also feel like I am encouraging/rewarding further content development when I pay a little cash above the regular subscription fee for these boosters.

It's not as if we are being nickel and dimed to death for non-content like in so many of the new wave of F2P MMO games; these packs are all unique and permanent content that represent labor on the part of the developers.

In terms of literal ability or just willingness? Because booster pack (or other premium) items almost always end up in the files prior to their official release, so I'm sure there has to have been at least one patch that had both paid items and free ones in it.

"Desirable" is entirely subjective. I have no use for the wolf tail myself, but I'm willing to fight over it because its inclusion seriously rubs me the wrong way. I'm also still a little shell-shocked that people immediately praised Jay and David for listening to what they wanted (and that is great, and David's overall level of communication has been top-notch), but they glossed over its presence in a booster pack they otherwise didn't like or were already going to buy. In other words, everyone asked for a "Beast Parts" Booster Pack, and what we got was a single piece tacked onto an unrelated pack. I don't consider those to be the same thing.

I don't begrudge you for seeing the irony, though. I knew someone would bring that up. I'm just surprised it didn't involve mention of inspecting an equine's pearly whites.

Content of the booster aside, all this says to me is "if it's screamed about long and loud enough on the boards, the developers will eventually cave in and give it to us". Which isn't a good precedent to set, guys. Especially given your stance on it in the past.

*shrug* I -am- all for listening to the playerbase and trying to appease, but....when game bugs and glitches that have been around forever (and asked to be fixed for just as long) gets pushed aside just so some people can have a freaking furry tail to add to their characters......it saddens me.

Kudos for listening to the playerbase......but a big subtraction in the methodology. Something like this should've been included from day one.

Think the fact its not a complete demon set now might make the difference between me buying it and not buying it in all honesty.

I dont have a wolf/fox charecter but i think I could probably find a creative use for the tail at least that doesnt involve squeeling cows.

Thats like saying that PvP is still as it is because BaBs hasn't animated a fix for it yet.

These guys are the ART department. Not the powers or balance department. Its chalk and cheese; one does not relate to the other.
