Super Booster V - Mutant Theme Costume Sets: Feedback
I'll be getting the pack as I want to support the game. That's my major reason, which is in itself a bummer.
That said, the costume change emotes, buff, both glove types, faces and at least 1 boot design fully sold me, but as a mutant pack I was expecting...more of what I personally perceive of as mutant and less demonic armour stuff. I was hoping for more shoulders or even some belt and boot types. I was expecting more...customisable and interchangeable items and i'm quite surprised that the faces in particular cannot use the 2nd masking.More limits I do not like, especially if I'm paying more for it's use.
Anyhoo, I hope this booster serves as a testing ground for more varied items in the future^_^ *coughGRcough*.

bah, crossposting as I put it in the wrong place..
Ok,
I wil admit I was expecting something totally different with this booster and am in a way, slightly disappointed that human / animal hybrids a la Dr. Moraeu were not included, as I know they have been called for for a long time. Hate the furries all you want, I think that would have been an awesome inclusion for the set.
As it stands though. I do like the costume parts, It's a different animal than what I was expecting, and so, I'm trying to figure out how these parts will be utilized with the other sets. Jay/Cheryl, you have done good, don't get me wrong, these are works of art. To me, they don't seem as.. approachable, if thats the term, as the parts from the other bppster sets, with time I'm sure very interesting uses will be had.
One thing, in the notes it said more tails, and I am not seeing them, also, I see the growl emote, again, something that would lend it self to spliced/hybrid/Moraeu/furry/whatever you wanna call it type characters, and again, they are not present.
I will be buying this, hands down, but I don't know how often I'll find myself using the costume parts, it's so good as a set but so tricky to use as parts.
I'm torn, I'm stunned at the sheer artistry, these are GORGEOUS, but I do not know how to use them.
The costume emotes.. sweet hot cross buns of mercy, BABS, whoever did them.. WOWIEWOWWOW! They are by far, the best ones to date.
the new power, I'm just trying it out, but I am really liking it!
Can we get a response from Jay/Cheryl/David on the ideas behind the new costume sets, and their vision on how the parts could be used? I *WANT* to embrace them, just finding it a bit tricky.
With love,
Arbie Fab
COMING SOON: A new Epic that will change the way you see Arachnos...
Brought to you by @Equation
subjective: Thanks for the fishy biolum! it's also a bit N'avi-ish. Pretty!
I was also confused by the lack of monstrous feet (though happy there were new monstrous thighs).
Happy that the organic shoulders were included on all male chest options (jackets, robes, trenches, robot arms...)
The patch note "Both costume sets include tintable costume pieces, a new feature that allows you to create unique glows for individual costume pieces." isn't very clear. I think it would've been better to say, "Both costume sets include costume pieces with partially glowing textures, a new feature that allows you to create glows separate from the aura system." The way you have it, it gives the impression that the glow colors are independent of the skin colors.
objective: the patch notes mention tails. There are no new tails that I saw.
The patch notes mention 'armor,' but there are no options under male 'armored' chests or 'armored' legs. I realize that it probably just referred to the name of the costume 'organic armor,' but. . . .
Uhhh. the costume change emotes = too much win. Also too many powerset ideas come to mind but they are all like "ill be back".........(grabs shotgun)
I love the new sets; the glowing eyes on the organic head are a nice touch. It goes great with my plant controller's coral/Hamidon theme.
Can't wait for this to hit live. I love the new costume emotes, too.
well, i will test tommorow, but subjective. no new tails, seriously? you guys wound me. otherwise, i am happy this has fish themed applications, so yeah, i willg rudgingly probably still buy this, but this booster was biilt up pretty heavily as finally answering the concerns of characters who are specifically non-human, and this seems like a half-step in that regard. serously, no new tail tail? i am disappointed. similarly disappointed with the lack of a new beast head. does jay really object to beast pieces THAT much?
Mutant does NOT equal furry. Seriously.
Anyways, I can dig the costumes. The Bio set looks pretty cool and useful for reptile/aquatic themed characters. And the Organic looks like it'd fit for a wide variety of characters, depending on how far your imagination goes. I could see it working for fire, earth, spines, maybe even ice related characters, which are all common mutant abilities. Too bad everyone's going to end up using the whole set at once and won't even attempt to be creative with it. Also digging the new costume change emotes.
My only major gripe is that the D will be filled with /e growlers, and not in a good way.
Subjective: Doesn't feel mutie to me either. This pack was a chance to amp up the weird factor and I kind of feel like what we got was some costume pieces designed to look nifty with Ultra Mode. You should have released those with I17 if that was the purpose.
Mutant is going to mean different things to different people but for me, I would have liked to see a plethora of odd assorted parts instead of complete costumes. Animal parts, alien parts, weird parts, the ability to do a cyclops-eyed creature without varying costume gyrations to hide the other two eyes, better furred options, etc.
Unfortunately, the costume changes are too cool for me to boycott this pack but I'm fairly disappointed in it. I say drop in the two costumes and the two cool (but non-mutant costume changes) as freebies and go back to the drawing board. You've missed the point of the assignment.

True, but also animal parts does not equal furry. Unless these guys are all furries:
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

Yeah. Feeling equally annoyed with this pack and what is a growing sameness from the character modeling department. From the outside, it feels like there is strong artistic resistance within the costume department, like there are themes that they love to work on vs. themes based on personal tastes that they all but refuse to work on. (i.e. if Sexy Jay for example really hates anthropomorphic animal characters and has decided "I'm not doing a furry set. No way.") I say this based on having witnessed heel dragging first hand in creative teams for both television and publishing. The results I witnessed in those arenas echo this growing pattern of sameness amongst costume option releases.
If there really is that much resistance to produce anything other than the same techy looking layered armors and demonic bits, then someone needs to get in there and either provide some tough love and art direction, steering the team into the areas that really are needing OR if the creative culture at Paragon is much looser and management doesn't want to stifle, then someone new needs to be hired--even if just on contract--who has a strong affinity for these other areas. So with this set lacking the long requested (and teased at by Positron) animal parts, the clock resets for all of us who have been pining for: thongs and feathered tribal sets, more generic silver or golden age patterns including face masks in the glasses detail section, bushy tails, stubby tails, animal heads, new monstrous heads, bird sets, amphibian and aquatic sets, bubble helmets, gorilla heads, a good geomorphic set, a revisit to the plant based set, proper vines wrapping around limbs, and a litany of rigid back details from tech backpacks to dinosaur plates to geomorphic chunks to weaponry to jet packs to glider wings. And that is really what disappoints. Because those of us--who have been hoping and waiting patiently for YEARS for this range of items which are clearly missing (sometimes entirely) from our costume options--need to start waiting yet again for another 6, 12 or 18 months to hope that one or two of these themes might finally be touched in the 1 or 2 sets and details we get with updates and/or the odd booster. And though GG strikes me as a sweet person the apologism here only stings. *sigh* |
Seriously, it's the first 'meh' booster pack for me personally.
If they meant new faces...say new faces NOT new heads...sorry but saying new heads does kind of bring to mind a proper monstrous style replacement head, could definitely be poor wording on their part.
New tails...well...we're still waiting on those so...can't say either way...though I get the feeling that it'll probably be something sharkish/snakeish to match the Bioluminesence set or we're simply not getting them.
Well there's the old saying, you can't please everyone all the time and I suppose there has to be a first time for a booster pack to go into the 'eh, can do without' for me. Those that enjoy it, more power to you but I think I'll pass.
mm. Pity the engine won't let them separate face armor from face eyeglow colors.

Also, the animation for Secondary Mutation loops, and loops, and loops...

All over, some neat ideas; But I agree with Equation: While I am not a furry lover, it does seem to have missed the mark some. The animal heads in the game now are just lacking, and yet they give us a growl emote that seems out of place without new "Mutant" heads? Just doesn't feel like they did their homework.
I get the Bioluminecent set, is there to say "hey, things are going to glow like they will in Going Rogue (Because it was cool in Champions and we -really- need to catch up to the competition with DCUO coming out soon). This is not Snark, I -love- glowing bits... I just wonder if this pack could have added some Mutant Auras from the get go; like we have access to the Combat Hud... but, you know, mutant (Shimmers, Dazzels, Psionic Halos, ect...). If this is a preview, I look forward how they will step up and drive the point home and give us LOTS more glowing options on parts in CoGR.
All in all the BEST stuff in this set are the Costume Change emotes (I mean just... WOW!) but... I am not sure if they are $10 good, considering they are just 1/3 of the stuff we got.
I am not ungrateful, it just doesn't feel... Mutant. Maybe call it the "Weird Pack", the Demon and "Frog Pack", or "Misc. Pack 1." :|
And come ON! How can you give us green BOILS and -not- give us access to /puke?!
I LOVE the "Terminator" Costume change, but... again... HOW is it mutant?
------------------------
I would love a version of the Organic Armor HEAD that does not have the "stuff" crawling on it. Since the eyes are glowing and the texture is so detailed.
Also, when are we going to wake up and see in the patch notes:
• All old faces have been upscaled and painted over to support a greater pixel density and mesh with our goals for Going Rouge. (?)
That would be great.
I made this comment in the Screenshots forum but it looks like it's shared here by others: this looks like a Demon Pack rather than a Mutation Pack.

Subjective: Hrm... not what I was expecting. I'll get a LOT of use out of the CC emotes and the costumes.
They seem fairly generic, they don't scream "insect' or "Lizard" or anything like that. They're just... that. BioLum has a fishy feel, but even then, it doesn't appear to have scales. Keep in mind that I think this is a good thing. They KIND of look demony, or boney, or coraly, or planty, or fishy. Enough so that you could use them for a number of costumes. Props for that.
For the record, here's what I came up with.

Honestly, was I the only one who thought "Zerg" when they saw the set?
Objective: The faces need to be included with the Special Helmets from CoV/Vet Rewards.
Quick subjective impressions:
Organic Armor really needs Organic Claws.
The Bioluminescent skin texture, and the Organic Armor to a lesser degree, had me thinking one thing over and over again:
"Oh no! The heartbreak of psoriasis!"
Once again, we have overly-specific and inflexible costume sets that don't play well with others.
While I agree that Mutant does not necessarily equal Animal/Bestial/Furry/Whatever, I think we all can agree that this is an area where the costume sets are sorely lacking and has been an area of high demand for a while. I've been wanting a raptor head for ages, myself.
You (dev) guys knew this and went with this stuff instead. Epic fail.

I completely agree. It's puzzling to see so many narrowly define Organic Armor as demonic when it can be a number of things, which is always a good thing. I just wish there were a "with skin" option instead of plain leather or whatever shiny texture that is.
Very dissapointed in the costume sets.
This is the type of thing we got for free with an issue. Not as complete as other sets.
The mutant pack does not even have some new feet for the monstrous lower body, no new tails.
And I wont get into no chest detail, no helmet detail, no belt, no hat type detail, no detail 2 for faces.
I thought a booster pack that people would pay for would include a little more costume options than what we got with enforcer as free back in the days.
There was so much this pack could address yet did not. Monstrous legs/monstrous head types come first to mind.
huge disappointment.
while they LOOK incredible, they seem very limited compared to other boosters, and the pieces all seem super specific and limited in use. there's a lot of people who wanted something entirely different out of this pack, i am not one of these people, but i still don't want to pay for what's being offered up either.
it's a shame this kind of quality and level of detail aren't applied to all costume sets, paid or otherwise.

Didn't read all the post yet, but for anyone wondering, glows are a enviormental reflection, in other words, you need to have UM on.
Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.
Subjective:
No new tails...
I find it very annoying that bio-armor or whatever got into the pathetic picks in full helmets. But that's more a 'Full helmets have a pathetic number of options' at least have it take up a 'top' option instead of an eye option.
The same bio-armor or whatever is an eye pick for half helmets, should be a top pick.
Costume related, still counts... Dimension shift is a Costume Change emote ONLY? I had high hopes for that emote (And, quite rightly. It IS awesome.) but I can only use it to switch between costumes instead of my character blinking in and out of existence like the 'porter she is?
Over all, I think the new items are cool... I just really hope this is 'Oh, and you get these other ones too!' considering when I think mutant... I see Killer Croc, Nightcrawler and Toad... Not a lavalamp and organic metal.
