The New Video is Public Now

Re: SJ animation of purple triangle guy.

I'm calling it some sorta video editing till I see otherwise. If it's actually in game, then i'd be forced to respec into SS, since that would get the same treatment, right? ...right?!

Otherwise - I do like the new gloves an boots shown . More costume parts, the better.

I'll just agree with this (and what others have said).

Great video and looking forward to more!

And I too, am not expecting that Super Jump animation to be in the game...not until I see it for myself, not going to get my hopes up for power pool customization yet

Good video - thanks for the links.

Although I think the SJ animation is for video purposes, would anyone really want their character stutter jumping like they were under a strobe light all the time?

I think that would be a rather silly thing for them to do

I think minago summed up SOME of my feelings rather nicely. If this is meant to be the marketing material for new subscribers, I just have to go back to expressing my feelings that this video gives the impression that the Devs see themselves on the same pitiful par as Champions Online. Like an accomplished thespian comparing themself to an 'actor' in a beer commercial.

And while the (super) lumberjack thing was certainly funny, it seemed . . . off. The lumberjack is certainly interesting for a few reasons, but I don't know if it's necessarily going to appeal to all audiences. Or any audiences except for a couple rather narrowly focussed ones. Sure, if I hadn't heard of City of Heroes before, that would pique my interest . . . but you probably don't want to hear WHY.

Hopefully future videos in the series will offer some variety in character concepts, encouraging more varied creative minds to look in to the game, and also touch upon how much potential there really is to TELL YOUR OWN STORY. Calling it "a comic book that's been put in an MMO" actually seems detrimental to really calling attention to how amazing this game is.

I was one of those lucky few who 'previewed' this video before the official release. Hey, I didn't know I wasn't meant to! But I loyally sat on my hands and keep marketing's secrets safe. Now everyone gets to see it...whee!

I loved the inclusion of the Devs in the video, previous promotional material focussed solely on in-game footage or CGI trailers, this was something very different to that. Certainly none of our beloved Devs have a future in acting, but they sure got across the enthusiasm and love for the game they have.

The video shows lots of new information about Going Rogue for us die-hards I think. A good overview shot of Praetoria, PPD in action, Praetorian Clockwork fighting, Maelstrom and Desdemona rendered in-game, etc, etc.

Yes, Sexy Jay is not 'Sexy Jay', the video is no longer rated with the infamous "T for Teen" either, but I think you're all missing something. He had now become "Nice Axe" (amusing pun btw), and as we're in Praetoria, then surely this has to be the Praetorian version of Woodsman! Same face, same muscles, same beard, except of course in the topsy-turvy world of Praetoria he may no longer be the eco-saving hero we are familiar with.

I give the video 8/10 (yeah, I still wanted *moar*), but that will surely be coming in Part 2. Good work Devs, production team and even marketing...special thanks to whoever forgot to make the FTP site private, I felt special for a week.

In part two of the Prelude to Going Rogue series, the devs will touch on how City of Heroes is a quantum leap in entertainment rivaling the invention of the written word and Bejeweled, cures erectile dysfunction, is the best hope for peace in the Middle East, and is Chicken Soup for the Gamer Soul.

That was an out-of-game advert

Editing in some non-game visual effects for a shot of power being used while they're mentioning power customizaiton would be a very...brave move

EDIT: The advert also had a disclaimer about the mouth animations

But what would be the point of taking time to put floating triangles on something in a video where the floating triangles don't actually mean anything.

My guess is that the devs were shooting video of themselves with test characters they made that had some special powers added or turned on to make filming easier, like some AV's resistance power that was strong enough to make them basically immune to most mez and damage. Someone forgot they had it on when they shot that sequence.

Or they could have even *used* an AV when shooting the scenes, demorecorded them, and then replaced the model for the final video, which replaced the character model but forgot to replace any lingering power effects, which caused the purple triangles to continue to appear. Potentially useful if you're shooting video with the Kronos Titan or Dr. Vahzilok in it.

I think it's the blur effect of the jumping rather than the triangles that's causing the most interest - travel power customization might be on the way

Had to laugh at Jay's comments on building a lumberjack. I saw it and immediately thought he'd ripped off my Paul Bunyan, which I've had for a few years. Eventually, I realized there's a new shirt on his guy.

Ah, that seemed to me to be a post-production effect, because if nothing else I think its otherwise missing frames of animation. The landing especially seems like an abrupt transition at the end.

Hehe, yeah, that is the brave that is often used in place of the word stupid.

And adding mouths to that advert is not really the same, as GG mentioned well enough for me not to have to repeat.

Look, we know Power Pool Customization is coming. We just have been told it'll be after Going Rogue. And, honestly, that is still what I am expecting. Even if they have been able to work on it and show a sneak of it in this video... or even if they haven't been able to work on it and that was just some little trick they had ready... The voice and the images are not an accident at that moment. So, they might have an earlier than expected sample of it, they might not. Either way, it's just a matter of time. And since I don't really believe time exists... I've been enjoying it since the day I died.

I concur.
It's a pre-set in Adobe After Effects. I think they just added it to spice up the shot, just like the flash effect when he lands.

It's a good promo video, aiming to get people who may not have heard about CoH/V for a while (or even at all) to think about the game.

With that in mind, I really hope some of those effects weren't devs adding in cool things players will never be able to do. Because people get annoyed when they see a video showing a whirlwind travel power they can't get in-game. Especially if the selling point is "you can make any kind of character you want!".

Whirlwind ... travel power? I take it you've never played Bowling for Skulls with Whirlwind as it is now, mucho fun! My namesake toon has Superspeed and Whirlwind, add some power color customisation and that's what you've seen in the video.

So, nobody interested in the Nice Axe / Woodsman link?
