Discussion: New Gamestop/Razer Going Rogue Promotion
So, given the suitable length of time used last time, you expect these will become vet rewards about 2 and half years after the release of GR?

Possible Solution
Since NCSoft can't really offer us these enhancements for a while without breaking the exclusivity deal with GameStop, then the solution is to write to GameStop and ask them to make a deal with NCSoft to sell the promotional bonus as a standalone -- pay $10 for the code and mouse pad. NCSoft sells the goodies from a new edition as standalone Item Packs; so, let them do the same with this through GameStop and it will survive the exclusivity agreement.

The way I see it, these enhancements will make it a bit more convenient to level up to 20 (and possibly a bit higher). Since this is a level range that many find tedious (maybe *especially* those that have been through it multiple times), I can definitely understand why "vets" could want them.
I hope to see that CoH will be getting product-facing in GameStops. From the website "exposure", it doesn't look like much "exposure" at this point. I'll probably head to a GameStop and check out what I see and post again.
Exposure/Critique
Nothing on the GameStop main page.
Nothing on the GameStop main PC page.
Not listed in the "with bonus" selections for PC games.
Listed on Page 5 by Release Date with no date listed.
GR does make position 3 under PC>Roleplaying>Massively Mulitplayer (under WoW and StarTrek, and just above Aion). You have to know what you are looking for to get there.
And here's the actual game page from the site :: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...oduct_id=77978
Screen Shots make the game look empty. We need some shots of group battles and Rikti raids. It's nice that they are showing new content, but the shots need to be of new content with full teams.
The Notice section needs to be clear that the information outlined is for the "super booster" as this implies what is with the game and this seems it is very limited what comes with the game.
The "Bonus Details" link doesn't work for me. (EDIT :: oh, that's the mousepad. Don't make much sense unless you know that it is a mousepad. Nothing to indicate that is what it is.)
The Box Cover Art leaves something to be desired to me. After all this time, I would assume it was clear to the people that play this game - if not the DEVs - that the game is about the characters that we make and not about the "signature characters" that we can't play. The game box showing Statesman and Clone-of-Statesman standing back to back like they are defending each other is very fitting for the traitorous Statesman. However, this doesn't express what players will experience in the game. It certainly has no meaning to anyone that isn't familiar with the game. It doesn't express anything heroic or villainous - just cosplay. The cover isn't going to attract attention and I have fear that it will blend in on the shelf. It isn't that the art is bad - it just isn't taking much from the thousands of comic book covers that it could be using for research material. (and I'm not just talking about max-slidered women in "with skin" top - I mean - holy socks! - look at your audience! Two out of two "heroes" are men? Not very much like the composition of the City that I run in around in every day.)
I hope to see more stores carrying and promoting the game.
I'm looking forward to a flux of new players into the game interested in exploring the new content.
Okay, this is pretty frustrating. I went to the Gamestop that's less than a half-mile away. They had no clue what I was talking about. Their system showed the GR: Complete Collectors edition, but no special pre-purchase offer. I put down the typical $5 to reserve a copy with a promise from the store manager that once the offer shows up in their system, I could change my reservation over to their special pre-purchase offer.
So according to the website, the only way to take advantage of the pre-purchase offer is to buy it on-line, have it shipped to my house, and wait for the e-mail offer to be sent to me. Even though the website has information box for in-store pick up.

Finally got to make sense of everything. For anyone that wants to get the pre-order goodies from their local Gamestop, the reason retail stores don't yet have the promotional codes is because Gamestop does not have an official release date yet for the GR Collectors box.
Once they have that date, then the retail stores will obtain the codes. So, this is a headsup to you in the marketing dept, the main page states that this is a limited time offer. For those that want to purchase the box in stores and take advantage of this offer, Gamestop / EB games needs a release date.
I am shocked people are actually surprised and disappointed by this move. NC Soft is here to make a buck...bottom line. It seems many MMOs have used this same type of business model to soak as much cash as they can from you. What shocks me even more is that some people think NC Soft views them as more important than the buck in their pocket. Nope. They don't. They're a business and, sadly, that's how business tends to work. Ethics, morals, scruples and their fellow man mean about as much to them as the gum stuck to the bottom of your shoe. Get it over it, people. If you're really ticked over this then stop giving them money...it's the only way they will hear your voice

It's not that. It's that every other thing available has been made available to existing players through an item pack. The only exception I know of is the Collectors Edition Power Slide and Cape for City of Heroes; even the City of Villains pre-order helmets are available to veterans.
So, this is a break with what has happened in the past. |
Can we move on to the next rant now?
You make your silly rant and specifically mention the items that make you wrong - the pre-order helmets. Oh wait, I forgot, you can see the future and you already know that this stuff will never be available by other means in the future.
Something only available to preorders from a specific company, and no apparent plans to make them available to existing players. |
That's disturbing. Even as other MMORPGs are moving towards the "make everything available to existing players" model that City of Heroes has, City itself is hinting that they're moving away from it. |

Your loyal players are the ones that didn't get this preorder. They're the ones that bought this the day or week it came out. So here we are, posting angrily and listening to Family Guy when we should be doing their job filling in Excel sheets. Who's fault is that? It's MINE, I tell you. I LIKE Family Guy and find Seth McFarlene's voice soothing. I don't even mind that it has pervaded my posting so much that it's undermined a very serious and very angry rant.

i am hoping these promo items are some how tagged.. and that this applies to NOTHING else in the game... or I will flip my lid...
|
Really?
I thought you guys were better than this. Store exclusive ingame preorder items in a multiplayer game is the worst trend in video games so far. Sure, they're not that powerful, but it's a really bad precedent. I'm disappointed. I really thought NCSoft were better than this. |
I'm wondering if this means endgame will involve the terrible soulbind mechanic that many of the more annoying games use. That's the biggest thing that can be read from the announcement. Soulbinding was added to the game, probably not just for a promo.
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
So, in one thing you guys have now implemented 2 of the most annoying things from the competition. They are at least rather superfluous, which is good, but I suggest that this had better be an isolated thing, or there will be much rage.

I am not getting shafted GG... because I am on the brink of not giving a F... anyways. I got the pre-purchase yada yada... but my husband didnt because in his mind, he may not even play GR.
But I do believe other people feel like they are getting shafted, because yanno thats what they said.
And yeah... Those items should have been better.

I sounded more negative than I am there. This was a deal they had to make. However, Castle specifically said that there is no equip binding mechanism in game yet, at least with recipes. If there is code to do it included with GR, it does raise the possibility.
The specifics of it should not particularly bother anybody, but it's the precedent. There is rampant speculation about the subscriber numbers and GR with very little info available. NC has a very well documented history of closures. That's a formula for tons of speculation about what every little addition might mean. What I read here and in the response at EU is basically panic mixed with cynicism about the owning company.
They would be wise to release some sort of substantive positive info about GR soon, not to quiet a bunch of silly drama, but to instill some confidence in the population and generate anticipation.

Hmmm . . . seems I am in a minority here, because I bought the pre-purchase from NCSoft while planning to buy the Complete Collection all along in order to throw away my other versions of the game and "clean house a little".
So this whole move with GameStop and such doesn't bother me a bit. As a matter of fact, it seems smart on there part since they should be getting some extra "in store" advertising in the process.
And 5 free procs? Who cares if they don't seem all that powerful, but then again, I never saw any numbers for them, so they just might be.
All in all, I am seeing nothing but good here. Then again I am an optimistic pessimist, so something bad should be happening real soon.
A level 20 DO and people a ******** kittens? Does anyone even USE DO's anymore?
Once again I am appaled by the ramapnt sense of entitlement on these boards. You'd think I'd be used to it by now considering every time they make any kind of announcement there are people who complain that it's not a big enough reward, or that it's not fair or they threaten to rage quit.
I thought that was pretty easy to figure out.
On a side note...
I wish it would have been better stuff.
If players feel like they got shafted, they are the only ones to blame.
