Discussion: New Gamestop/Razer Going Rogue Promotion
Sadly, it was discussed on the forums and ended in a flame war that burned on while a couple cynical people sarcastically mocked everyone including themselves, vaguely derailing the thread.

Think about those three big enhancements they give us in the tutorial. Think about what they could be if they were bound to the player and couldn't be traded or exploited by making tons of new characters just to get them. How about instead of a large respite, an enhancement that boosts recovery for an entire mission? Or an awaken that works like Soul Transfer? All possible with binding, all impossible without.

TWO tier 3 Inspirations (Righteous Rage, Resurgence), two level 1 damage enhancements.
Triumph: White Succubus: 50 Ill/Emp/PF Snow Globe: 50 Ice/FF/Ice Strobe: 50 PB Shi Otomi: 50 Ninja/Ninjistu/GW Stalker My other characters
well the complete collection is to bring in new players so im guessing they dummed down the items so every1 else would pre purchase online and get it digitally leaving boxes for new peeps.
I don't blame the dev's at all. The least the marketing department could do is be honest and just close the damn EU servers already if they don't care about them. That would make at least clear what their intentions are.
So far I have yet to see an answer from any redname(Pebble or Community thingy) to clarify that yes, the EU got screwed over again. |
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

K I'm mad. WHy would you offer us pre-purchase without telling us that a month down the line you could get exclusive things through a different company?
Thats just not fair.
Bashful Banshee.
Enjoy your day please.
Did I mention, and I'm surprised no one mentioned this, that the temporary activation of a power included in the newbie enhancement can be seen as a precursor to the Incarnate System? Tell me, if the level cap is still going to be 50, how else would they go about it? Enhancement system. Looks like we're going to get a new power slot for each level and corresponding I.O.'s with a chance of incarnate power activation upon a successful strike of an attack. The release of this information pretty much confirms it in my book. Mark my words here people, logically it's the only way the Incarnate System is going to work within the confines of what the developers have already stated. Paragon Studios, stop giving us the run-around and concede to the fact that we guessed right on the Incarnate System!
I want to add that it's a cheap way to go about the system too. We're looking at a possibly corny type of secondary effect or power. I think we're going to be disappointed here unless the powers are awe inspiring in visuals and effect. You know my first inclination would be a transformation effect into a god or demon-like being a la Onimusha, if I were at the helm of the Incarnate System development team, but that's just me. At the least I expect it to rain hellfire when I hit that incarnate power. |
It's fun to speculate sometimes.

I've read a bit more into it now, and my views have changed since my earlier, more bitter post. I wanted to post in both this thread and the EU-specific one, so I'll just quote from there.
Now I've taken more things into consideration, I can see that taking the opportunity while you could was the wisest move. I posted a little rashly in the other thread before I thought about it properly, and it would appear that someone's picked up on it. Ah well, move on and all that.
I doubt I'll ever like exclusivity, but that's just me and I can accept that and move on. The only thing I still have an issue with is the change of situation. I don't mind that Gamestop have this deal, but I don't like how it was posted some time ago that there would not be any bonuses for pre-ordering. I understand that there weren't any plans at the time, but after what we've seen today, I'd recommend avoiding making such a statement unless it was something that the team felt strongly about. I know I sound like I'm being really nitpicky, but I think we need to keep a tight hold (which you guys are usually very good at) on the fine line between possibility and fact. |
This raised some suspicions for me as well. Creating the soul bound tech for a pre-order incentive doesn't seem likely. That and the spacing on enhancements that makes it appear as if a 7th could be added.

During I17 beta, a dev (Castle?) confirmed there's no plans for extra enhancements to be added.

The bad news for you is that I'm getting it first. Personally though I think that is a small price to pay for having a truly awesome effect in the game.

Check out the wording for the "exclusive" items offer - there's plenty of room there to make them available at a later date

Still mad though.

Personally, I applaud the NCSoft and Paragon Studios crew for this move. It's more exposure for the game I love, and has a good chance to bring in new subs. It's win/win.

Just some FYI on this one, your experiences may or may not vary.
On my dinner crawl, I checked in with three different GameStops (the three closest to me). None of them knew of this promotion yet and none had it in their internal systems yet. However, all three had a release in September with one adding, "most likely later, you know how these things go."
At one store a fellow looked it up on his iPhone (apparently, I was the third person to inquire about it and he'd had enough not knowing what we were talkign about) and, while not shocked, was bemused over it saying something similar to "they really need to get a lot better at telling us this stuff before they tell the public."
One store wanted me to hand them a fiver right then for a preorder, the other two suggested, quite to my surprise, I hold off until their systems had been updated so I got the proper receipt with the code and instructions (at one it was "so you don't have to come all the way back for it," and at another it was "so you definately get it").
Don't give your money to Gamestop. Its like giving your money to the devil.
I don't care what they offer you. Don't do it.
No, they're not going to add the preorder bonuses to prepurchasers' accounts. They're only available to people who preorder through Gamestop.
And no, they did not lie to people. They changed their minds. |
So, are they going to refund people who changed their minds about pre-purchasing and now want to pre-order instead?
|
I didn't pre-purchase, and I didn't get access. I will purchase and I will get the GameStop/Razer perks.
If I wanted both, I would have pre-purchased and pre-ordered. If you want both, you can do the same.
Perhaps, if people included relevant quotes or links in their posts to support their declaratives, all of this banter wouldn't happen at all.
No one can recall all they've read in a given thread, especially when they are as massive as this one. Quoting previous posts, in part or whole, and links to information referenced actually speed up the dialogue process by reducing or elimating the need for anyone to explain the origins of other's posts. |
Because looking at the Dev/Community digests before you sound of on a topic is so hard and unreasonable.
No... wait.
Truth.
It was probably one of the most heavily analyzed topics of the late eighties and early nineties.
