Old players now playing on US servers?

Will not make much difference but at least a few will do it.

From US to EU?? What would the point of that be?

Certainly EU numbers will go back up when GR hits. Personally I've no idea how sustained that increase will be and don't particularly fancy gambling 30 quid on it.

I still play on both sets of Servers. I started on the EU then 27mths ago set up an NA acct to. My EU acct has lapsed for 9 mths in total, but is active at the moment, due to cashflow, but I still enjoy playing both sides of the pond.

What I want to know is if they do merge the server lists....can I merge both of my accounts hehe

Seriously, What would we loose if we played together with our cousins living in USA? Or they could come over to Europe?

Some people's Global names and ...

Nope, that's all I got.

I don't think I qualify as an old player (unless we consider real life age) but I've been in the game for a bit. Moved to US servers a while ago, mainly Freedom and Virtue and have as many lvl 50s there as I have on Defiant. I'm currently playing on Defiant but I usually alternate subs between EU and US so will prolly resub there in a couple months to review a few chars that could use a respec and to play other chars I miss.

Define 'a lot'.

I logged on a fair few times over the weekend and ended up going back to Virtue each time (where I see new players every day, going by their vet badges); perhaps the market being down has kept people away?

I spoke to a few global friends and not one of them was gushing about how busy the EU servers were, quite the reverse.

I really wanted to come back to the game after a year off, I was looking forward to picking up my old characters; but resubbing to the EU this month has convinced me that I'll be buying GR on the other side of the pond.

If the EU servers were a horse, I'd shoot it.

Ok, well, you think purple or PVP recipes are hard to get? SG "prestige" base building points takes years to get

if they could do a merge properly, it would be awesome, otherwise too much wasted effort to feel happy about starting afresh

as it is the option is that, or stay in the ghost town. both make a sucky game so no reason to subscribe.

It wouldnt hurt anyone... Maybe it draws people in. Anyway...

The main point is that there are servers in the US that have lesser people on then there are atm on UNION. and if any EU servers where in danger it would be the French and German servers first.

No merge is going to happen!
No servers will be taken down!

I just hope for a combined list of servers and one global for all...

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

If you want to kit out all your characters they're hard to get, yes, if just a few it's quite manageble. I got the resources to equip 1 or 2 chars with purples without even trying but personally I don't bother with either, not worth the cost imo.

Yes. The difference being that to me the EU servers haven't reached the 'ghost town' status yet. Still plenty to do. Although there's no denying the decay.

The point of your post somehow escaped me ...

I was referring to a server list merge. Nobody loses anything except a Global Name if it happened to exist across the pond. Something I would be all in favor for to be clear.

I do know of a few people from my sg and a few others that have dropped EU and joined the NA servers. (I really dislike the segregation and the continued support of the flawed system of seperate server lists)
No kidding... I hate it in every game where it rears its ugly head... I'm from Europe myself, but I never actually made the transfer to the EU servers when it was available (something I regretted for a while before transferring from Infinity to Virtue).

At this point I'd settle for just one fee to access both sides of the pond if the other technical issues are too much for too little gain (which I suspect they might have decided upon).

At least then one could decide where they want to play easily on a daily basis and join in community events EU side if they came up.

This.

Once my EU sub runs out at the end of this month, I won't be playing on Union or Defiant at all; if they were on my server list, I would.

You shouldn't have to by now and I most certainly will not opt for paying that, I always refer to GW's as an exemplary MMPORG - not comparitively gaming-wise but the handling of their intricate community.

At first you were divided into several "Sub-sections" like America, English-EU, Asia, etc. Then they had several "instances" of particular zones to allow for extreme over-population within said sub-section. At this point in time they had an offer of "5 chances" to change your native server then that was it. Much later on they finally implemented a globalistation of the server "lists" - for lack of a better expression.

I particularly like the window of 5 options to change your native server, and thoroughly advise the devs' to go with that option if they cannot implement some sort of cross-server localisation. However I strongly hold that a server list merge would be the best, even if it means that you have to connect to their NA servers, and vice-versa, I'd probably go renew my subscription.

Frankly I find the fact I have subscribed several accounts to CoH/CoV and have to simply tie them off rather insulting. I've played since CoV came out and excluding the odd break I've subscribed since then. The deterioration could be argued as not exclusively their fault, but its more the fact all my money's commitment to this game has been utterly pointless.

We don't need a server list merge, we need Union and Defiant to be merged into Virtue.

No, that would just guarantee that most EU players would simply leave the game; terrible idea.

One server list, (preferably merging my accounts!) or having vet time/retail codes applied to my NCSoft Master Account instead of to my NA/EU accounts so I get all the stuff I've paid for on an account I use would be my preference.

When i played on virtue once i couldnt stop laughing! Nothing against roleplayers but it just seemed so funny to me to be on a server where almost everybody is playing "in character"!

I had thought that they would just meet up at certain locations ingame and RP, not do it on a constant basis! I was freaked out man!

Regarding that other NA servers have lower populations, this is true of course but they chose to play there on a lower populated server. Whether its because they dont like all the noise from lots of players or being a big fish in a small pond or whatever, they chose to play there knowingly.

I still think of re-activating my NA account sometimes though . . .

Really? I must on a different Virtue then. All I see is some people ((talking like this)). Weird thing is they tend to say EVERYTHING like that, at least on PuGs. So they become kinda pointless.

Had a few casual RPers on teams as well but nothing major, mainly battle cries and wise-cracks which are easy to get into the spirit of,

Of course I do avoid Pocket D...

What's the point of merging the server LIST without merging the actual server? that won't make any more villains play (in fact probably less cos nearly everyone would take advantage of the already implemented thing to move servers), and would still mean you couldn't move supergroups to an active server which is the most important thing since it's the single most thing you can't really ever get back when prestige accumulates so slow and gathers up over years

The point of a server list merge, deathkitten (in my eyes) is equal service. (Explained in much more detail elsewhere). Eu pays as much as the NA servers, however the EU players has 4 servers to create chars on, the NA has 11. That means the NA players have 7x12 more character slots to create chars on, before they will have to buy additional character slots. Which we in EU have to when we get hit by Altitis. Specially since two of the servers are useless to many of us, because we do not speak french or German.
The other point is... why on earth seperate the playerbase on two lists that cannot interact with eachother?
I have also the added illusion that it may even be more expensive to uphold two server lists instead of just one, due to manpower having to code/recode/update two updaters. However that may be an illusion, since the company do not reveal in detail why a server list merge has not been done yet or what it is that stops them from doing it.

With a server list merge, there would be no difference, we would all be part of one company.

A server merge will ALWAYS infuriate more players then it will please. With a server merge there will be local name changes, maybe supergroup changes, global name changes etc... with a server list merge there will be only global name change (if your unlucky).

About keeping villain population... well One solution would be to make a villain actually... you know... be a villain and not a lacky (too many missions make you a lacky). Having minions in bases, missions (ok through a mission computer) that let you be the villain with maybe various heroes (generic) that fights to oppose you. (See "(Villains only) How evil do YOU want to be, really? " -thread for some nice suggestions)

The point of a server list merge advocates several things:
  • A harmless joining of two communities, with minor sacrifices for either community.
  • An option to allow EU to keep their accounts, at the very least, after all the EU will be making the most sacrifices.
  • 4 more servers for the NA to play on, which I think will certainly population boom them back into use.
  • Actual server merging is extremely difficult and raises a lot of problems, simple and complex: for example which server on NA do you merge with only 4 options from EU; to the problematic name-clashing; even account name clashing.

Villains have and will always experience some constant "k" which is a factor of deficit in relation to their hero counter-part population. The fact is that people just don't enjoy playing villains as much as they do heroes, at least here on Union.
Moving servers, server transfers, would actually increase the amount of activity if they implemented a server list merge or server merge, and allow people to experience different server qualities. Besides, nowadays NA has such a high population that you can start a character on any of the servers and still enjoy the atmosphere, if your in it for the casual gameplay.

Supergroup collections, efforts and achievements will inevitably be sacrificied unless they somehow achieve some sort of system transfer from EU to NA, which I extremely doubt is even within the margins of possibility - at least within reason. Unfortunately I also conclude that any character-base achievements: badges, SG efforts, influence, enchancements will probably not make it across the border - even characters may not make it.

The problem I foresee in the developers mind is the significance of the EU problem: Spending all this time re-organising and changing hardware/software, etc does not aid the other 95%(NA subscription base, and exaggerated value) whatsoever. I can understandably see the NA base turning around in Issue: 20 EU saying "What do we get, whilst you fix them?". I think the problem has been raised and escalated to the best of our abilities but in face of the effort/time consumption ratio we will succumb to pastures gone.

The point is that a lot of people from the US servers will make toons on your servers and the population will go up as well as you being able to access other servers. Unless you want a vast SG/VG base, it's not a big deal to set up a new one on a new server, I have largely personal (or shared with one or two friends) SGs on many servers big enough for a full set of TPers. You just need to find a friendly SG/VG that will allow you to coalition and use their TPers while you build up your base.

I would certainly make toons on both english servers, as I'm pretty much full on all the US ones.

Spike on issue release does not mean population has permanently increased.

Some might resub to check things out. Game is pretty cheap so new players might enjoy the free month.

If there is a big increase remaining after a month or so then you have a increase in population.
