April 2010 Fan Art Battle - VOTE!!!

Thank you VERY VERY VERY much to Bubbawheat for putting this post together so I could simply CCP it!! This is an excellent way to win brownie points with the FArt Mistress

Time to vote for this month's winner! We're still going to keep a 1,2,3 voting scheme. We have two people eliminated due to lack of qualifying entry, but WE ARE STILL GOING TO HAVE ANOTHER ELIMINATION. With the months left and the people we still have, its time to prune the numbers down further.

JohnnyKat has immunity and cannot be eliminated this month.

Voting will close at midnight, Friday April 30th. Next month's theme will be up soonish.

Also, I'd like some input on whether or not we should do a special battle to win a spot back in the running. I really liked this idea before we got going... but because most eliminations were due to non-submission or withdrawing, I don't know if this is really necessary.

My votes:

1st - JohhnyKat. Hate to vote for someone who has immunity, but that piece rocks!
2nd - U-Naught. It's what a full effort crayon piece shuld look like.
3rd - ScooterTwo. I just love playng with my daugher's playdough.

Good luck to all, and cudos for all that came out for this (slightly odd) challenge.

1st- Frost, because he captured not only the methods, but the heart of what kindergarten art is like. It's undoubtedly childish, instantly recognizable and fulfills every part of the theme this month. Way to own the subject.

2nd - U-Naught, for doing impressive work with crayon, while again capturing the heart of the kindergarten theme, not simply the method.

3rd - Shia, because I love the cutout and paste work, but mostly because there can be no hotter chick than MILFberry.

This one is really tough, my wife and I narrowed it down to two that make us laugh, and two that are really well done with the materials used, and it's very difficult to decide which one doesn't make the cut. Aha!

1) Christopher Robin - this was very well done with the materials used, tough to work with sidewalk chalk moreso than crayon. Nice tie in to Earth day as well.

2) PyroNympho - this made us both laugh and it's very well done also.

3) Frost - I loved this one the first time I saw it, it really made me laugh out loud for real which is quite rare for me.

4) JohnnyKat - very well done, and bumped down only because he has immunity so he won't get voted off even if he gets the fewest votes.

Wow! So many beautiful works from which to choose!

In fact, there were so many pieces which were aesthetically pleasing, that I had to adhere to the letter of the theme: "Everything I Need To Know, I Learned In Kindergarten".

Of all the entries, only two met that criteria. My third choice captured the *spirit* of the theme.

Therefore, my choices are:

1. U-Naught -- Captured both the letter and spirit of the theme. The work is beautifully rendered and makes best use of the materials. I chuckled when I read the description at the DeviantArt site, and had to ask myself, "Would I rather stay after class and work on my art under the supervision of American Jane ... or clap erasers?" The answer was simple. That I got to guest star in the picture was an added bonus, though it had *no* bearing on my judgment.

2. ChristopherRobin -- Earth Day is something which helps to shape the perspectives of young minds and lets them have a positive impact on their futures. Very nicely rendered, CR!

3. Frost -- Winner for reflecting the spirit of fun, innocence, and technical simplicity of Kindergarten art.

Honorable Mentions: Everyone who did not get into my Top Three! (*group huggles*)

AMERIKATT: Star of Stage, Screen, and Saturday morning cartoons! (Art by Psygon and ChristopherRobin)
"(Katt-Girl) obviously reads a lot of encyclopedias" -- Kiken

Once again, there were about a dozen entries that I liked in one way or another. At least I didn't have to pick just one or I'd still be debating this time next week.

1. Frost. Simple and funny.

2. U-Naught. Great coloring with the crayons!

3. Bubbawheat. Popsicle sticks ftw!

Another tough, wonderful moNth of entries - especially because of the sheer, wild variety of material approaches! Great job everyone!

So, here's my votes:

1st Place - JohnnyKat's "Reclusive Family Portrait"
Floored me from the first moment I saw it. Right outta my chair! Slam! Utterly conquers in the battle between Artist and Crayons. Beautiful rendering! Instantly recognizable game characters!
Very well done!

2nd Place - ScooterTwo's "Claytesman"
Boldly venturing out into the realm of real-world 3rd dimensional art! Instantly recognizable as Statesman! Well done!

3rd Place - Toxic_Shia's "Big bottomed Dragonberry"
The first thing that grabbed me on Shia's piece was the design & layout, next was the recognition of the character of Dragonberry. Even though she's a little different from how I'd normally seen her, I still knew who it was. Well done, Shia!

Honorable mentions to EVERYONE else (and even those who's work didn't get in) - each brough smiles and "ooooo!"s.

1. Frost - Looking at this puts a smile on my face. I just wish it was photographed better or adjusted in Photoshop to show the original colors more accurately.

2. U-Naught - It's funny how American Jane is sitting in that tiny chair, and little Amerikatt is totally into drawing. Kinda feels like Jane staying there was involuntary.

3. Shia - I love the clever use of overlapping to show depth.

There were so many great entries that easily could have been on my top 3, but I had to make a decision in the end.

Everyone gets an honorable mention, it was really hard to choose this month (again) I changed my votes about ten times before I was like "FINE, JUST SUBMIT IT ALREADY"

Not trying to start a discussion in the voting thread but that's as good as I could manage to make it. It's actually scanned. The glitter makes it real difficult to work with.

Otay! I'll 'fess up. I promised Miss AJ that I would draw her if she stayed with me (the bigger kids were picking on me ).

lets see two accounts both having started in April 2010 , both with one post only to their history ever and their magic first post is in this thread and both posting for the same people in the same order .

I can only be amazed that two totally random folks , read about this contest online then rushed to purchase City of Heroes just so they could vote in these forums .

If only more players like you that loved art would sign up for subscriptions or try out the game on a trial account just so you could jump into the democratic art movement the world would be a happier place .
