Quote:Actually, when Bayani and I saw the piece, it went down thusly:
First off, it's nice to see Private Messages and conversations staying private.I guess you're little cabal has a group mind and must share everything with the queen bee...
Wassy: Is it just me, or did Nei phone that one in?
Bayani: Yeah, I agree. She probably charged full price too, which isn't right
Wassy: Definitely... the piece shouldn't be treated as less important because its a private commission. I'm gonna send him a PM.
Bayani: Let me know how that goes
Either one of us could have dropped you the line, I was just the one who did. He was aware of it before it was issued.
You said to me all the reasons why it was just fine and dandy, so I said you were pretty much fine with the piece and that was that.
The point is... you argue vehemently against advice, but then take said advice later when it seems like its totally of your own volition.... but then keep arguing against advice! That's what's frustrating. It feels like, to me, when I've offered up personal experience based advice, you make 10,000 points to me why its wrong... but take it later on without so much of a breath of "You might have been right about that one" -
I can do stuff right once in a while.

Terribly sorry for agreeing with someone else's comment on a message board. And thinking the prizes would be of cash value since every one of his example WAS something of value...
And also, this contest is NOT quite the same as what Caemgen's done before. Yes, he's generously given away a lot of prizes.. but these would involve quite a fair bit larger commitment on behalf of the participants. It makes a difference.
Just because I agree that it wouldn't be a great idea is NOT me just crapping all over something to be rude. Its because I just ran a similar contest with LESS stakes and it wasn't exactly a walk through the park. I see where Suichiro is coming from, and I added my agreement in an effort to spare Caemgen WORSE problems than I was just dealing with. Since I had a bit of experience doing something similar, I felt it was the friendly thing to say "Yeah... this has a lot of potential for blowing up in your face." He even agrees!
Of course he can do whatever he pleases... but I find it much nicer to give someone a warning rather than letting them learn the hard way. -
Ya, but all those things mentioned have cash value.
-
I call Winona Ryder. Fire is good. And Frost is more than aware that I'd blow him up in a second if I thought there would be comedic effect.

Sorry, but that is indeed a huge U-Turn from earlier quips of "But the final say goes to the FArt Mistress".
You can stick your fingers in your ears and pretend it didn't happen, but I said Shia vs. CR and I said ribbons.
Edited to find the quote:
Quote:Frankly, methinks there needs be a Ribbon themed showdown...
CR, I agree with your quotes and how you interpret them EXCEPT that you didn't declare you intention to just take the crown until after Wassy changed her mind, clarified, whatever and gave a theme for you and Shia to tackle.
In the post giving the theme she clearly states she think you should advance AND that Shia should. So since the consensus seems to have always been that the FArt Mistress' ruling were what we went by, I think we must allow this change of direction since nothing 100% declaritive had been done by oneone before that.
That is, assuming Shia wants to bother continuing. -
Quote:This times a million billion trillion zillion.I think this is going in the opposite direction. If you have an even more cutthroat competition and a prize with monetary value at the end, then take the current FArt dramah and magnify it by a large factor. If people are willing to get catty over something that means nothing, just imagine what it'll be like when it's a fight over cash.
-
Nope, I actually got zero PMs about the nipular issue. I said people as in you and I thought I saw it mentioned by one other poster. So by one person, I had to use "people" instead of "you".
CR then brought up his PRIOR posts as to his intentions with the piece, before it ever came out and explained his thinking. Nothing to do with the voting, those supports were more than adequate for me to rule it a problem of line choice, not trying to have extra nudity. -
I took all the points raised during voting madness, and came down to the decision that seemed the most fair. What CR quoted was my reaction to Pyro saying he should have just dropped in the first place and wanted his entry considered as such, but he did suggest just conceding in the vote and letting CR and Shia move on. This course of action makes the most sense to me.
And we all love ribbons!
Thanks for stepping up, Bayani-man. I definitely feel bad for having to let the account go before the last fight, but when push comes to shove, I've got to go for being a board member at college over FArt Mistress.
I think I have a week or two left of posting time. -
Well, who doesn't like ribbons? That and I thought it was fitting (blue ribbon, winning ribbon, ribbons supporting causes). It was better than what I was mulling over, anyway
And thank you. I'm excited for the work ahead this upcoming academic year.
Also not that I WOULD, but just the fact that I COULD make a motion before the board to fire everyone in the Financial Aid department if they ever screw with me again makes me giggle with maniacal laughter a couple times a day now. -
Next month's theme is ribbons.
I'm taking Pyro's concession as making CR vs. Shia as the final fight.
As CR pointed out with an earlier post, he clearly meant to cover everything up in such a way that everything naughty was covered, but just enough. Depending on how you see things, it can go one way or another, but even through the back-and-forth... it was ambiguous line choices and not an attempt to show more than he should have.
If anyone doesn't like it, too bad. You can either do this final ribbony theme or not. There's not money or a prize on the line, and I don't think the street cred is really going to shoot the winner to fame or fortune, either. CR should advance for his immunity, I saw no malicious intent to break the rules in his entry, and Shia should advance for his wonderful entry, regardless of Pyro's concession.
------
Also, I will not be around for this last fight, so hopefully CR and Shia can play nice on their own. I'm not going to be renewing my sub when it runs out here soonish. A couple weeks ago I was alerted to an incredible opportunity on campus this year. There was an unexpected opening on the Board of Trustees for the Student Trustee. The Student Trustee is a full member of the board, with all the voting rights and responsibilities of every other board member. The position is in existence to make sure that the student voice is adequately represented to the highest decision-making entity at the college.
This past Thursday I was elected by Student Congress to fill this post.
Besides classes and work, my weekdays now are also full of office hours for this position, and regular meetings with much of the administrative staff. I also have duties as an officer of Phi Theta Kappa, and really must keep my weekends for commission work with as few distractions as possible. So the CoH subscription is going to lapse.
I'll still be around via dA, and none of my contact info has changed. -
I haven't commented on it, because I don't SEE it. What (I think) people are saying is part of a nipple looked to me like it was just a line weight choice. That side of the bikini was shadowed, so it was a heavier line at the bend. If CR INTENDED for it to be otherwise, than it is disqualifying.
As far as the flaming boots fiasco, all *I* said was how it came out to me at first blush. It looked to me like it was clearly a poke for not being able to include Bayani. If I'm not supposed to call them like I see them, then the whole thing doesn't have to have a judge anyway and it can be a free-for-all.
Also, get your facts straight. Tartyr WAS NEVER DISQUALIFIED. He was voted off in April. Go back and check. In the children's theme, I asked him what material he used when it didn't look like crayon. When he said it was, all was good.
Before you go off on tirades about what I have and haven't done, make sure you have some accuracy first. -
Quote:Yeah, definitely didn't turn out how I wanted, but at least I can say I gave it the ol' college try. I'm actually not overly fuming about the end, though. If CR and Shia want a good theme to go out on and just skip over this vote, I've got no problem with that. But I knew if I didn't mention the immunity issue, it would be brought up anyway and I'd be accused of not taking the rules into consideration on THAT count =P I was just shocked at how Pyro chose to exit when I never said there wouldn't be an elimination.Ooh oooh! Dramah! Can I help?
Wassy, you botched this from the very beginning, much like TA did. You can be mad about the situation, but it was destined from the start. You're right though, that Caemgen guy is a total jerk!
Okay, I'm done. King of Supan, away~
Caemgen continually spouting off that I called him a liar when I in fact said he was rude is far more irritating.I -
If it had been a couple times, yes, I could see your point. But a whole bunch of times? In a row? And that's not a pattern of rudeness anymore? Whaaat?
So you're saying I could cut in front of you in a line, sneeze in your face, make disparaging remarks about your ethnic background, but that would all be OK as long as I said I wasn't meaning to be rude there? And not only that, I would be within my rights to be highly offended if you said I was acting rude even if I didn't meant it. OK then.
You love to play semantics and split hairs on words. What I said, and what is out there for everyone to see, is that your responses were rude. I said that phrase "Not to be <insult>, BUT" is a dead giveaway that you're being exactly whatever insult that is. As I said above, I'll give it to you in your heart of hearts you didn't mean that, but what I'm saying is that with the continued action, regardless of whatever apology, you were BEING that way. The fact that you felt the need to preface or apologize in advance bears that right out. I called you rude, NOT lying.
As I'll point out, yet again, it was because that's how you had responded to me, exclusively, for almost 10 responses in and out of that thread. You really don't think I had any reason whatsoever to feel you were being insulting when everything you said to me came with a warning that its about to sound totally insulting? -
I'd put up my influence map but I somewhat wonder if a picture of a bottle of Jack Daniels would get mod-smacked...
It would be next to a Coke bottle! -
zOmg!
*gets the fuzzy slippers and Diet Coke* John Hamm is like, so, totally hawt. -
-
Quote:You're very welcome. And thank you for saying so =)Hug it out *******!
I think this sort of contest is good for the art community here. Wassy took on the aggravation of running one. We owe her a collective THANK YOU. There is always going to be disagreement about things like rules, personality clashes, etc. But the bottom line is that someone took it upon themselves to make something happen. Thank you Wassy (and helpers Frost, Foo, etc.). -
Thank you! My point remains! If you have to preface all your "points" with a warning that its going to come off as rude... you're being rude!
I wasn't calling you a liar, I was calling you RUDE! I didn't say EVERYTHING YOU EVER SAID EVER wasn't true. I said, as we can plainly see, that when your points start with the warning that they're going to come off as an insult several times in a row, THEY ARE IN FACT INSULTING. They are insulting in the way you're warning about, e.g. "Not to be condescending, but so what?" is condescending.
I am very very willing to think that you might not have meant to be a raving jerk. But seriously. HONESTLY. You think its perfectly civil for (including PMs) the past roughly 10 comments you make to me to start with "Be forewarned, this sounds totally insulting". Really? REALLY?! You don't think that would either offend a person OR seem like you're blowing off every input they ever give you? If not, sign me up for Caemgenland, because I want to insult the hell out of people like that and have it be OK.
Either own up to the rudeness, or dispute the fact that you don't think that sort of behavior is in any way rude at all. But don't get your panties all in a twist and start making untrue accusations in a post about your high moral character. -
Quote:Wassy, I know your in school, and that's why I tried to use the example earlier to explain where I was coming from. If I had known before hand that THIS month would determine who went on to the final round, I would have actually drawn or attempted to draw / create a piece, rather than a screenshot throw together.
Expecting a pop quiz, and the professor turning it into the final exam b/c all of the students didn't show up isn't cool. Some notice that THIS is a biggie would have been a good thing.
I'll stay in this month, and let the votes decide. If it's too late, and CR / Shia want to duke it out next month with the new theme, that's fine too. If CR is the winner now, b/c of rules and that "what's the point of having just the 3 of you"...well, that's great too.
Py
This is a very inaccurate comparison. Since I never ONCE said there would be no elimination this month, its more like coming to what you were told was an exam, ASSUMING it would be a quiz because of attendance, not studying, and then still getting your exam. And then you set off the sprinklers on your way out. -
Well, lets just play on this infallabile integrity of yours, Caemgen. YOU said I called you a liar. Not me. *I* said if you say "Not to be a jerk/sarcastic/condescending, etc. etc." 5 times in a row, you ARE being those things. If you have to preface everything you say with a warning that its going to come off rude, THAT'S A GIGANTIC RED FLAG THAT YOU ARE BEING RUDE. I'm rather surprised that that sort of thing hasn't come up in your day-to-day dealings before.
But instead, you turned that into me bluntly saying that I called you a liar and state it as fact every time you can. Yes, you truly are a shining beacon of truth in this dark time of injustice. -
Yes, Caemgen wins.
See, this overall battle really does go to the people who dropped, not for reasons of being busy or something came up, but when they made big shows of taking their ball and going home. More than once we had self-disqualifications over-ruling my own judgements on pieces that would or would not qualify. And this slew really defined what happened with the competition.
This last drop out, forcing everyone's hand into whether we got a last battle by Pyro's good graces or not is just the cherry on the cake, and has totally soured my taste for the whole thing.
I'll give Shia and CR a final theme if they want to do something a little more epic for their last show, but otherwise, CR wins. -
Excuse me? You wanted to do 3 months of just the 3 of you? What would be the point in that? So your choice is to end it even earlier?
In 100% fairness, doing that declares CR on the winner, because he won immunity last month. So yeah, we'd really be done. Thanks?
Could have made the last month an actual nice theme to go out on and all. Instead we get to end on non-participation. -
She's awesome as Joan.
Though honestly, its really John Hamm as Don Draper that totally hooked me. I DO have to call stupid on AMC for making it tricky to catch up on a season if you're just dropping in. They only very briefly put an episode up online after it plays, they don't replay them during the week on the channel, and it takes a couple weeks for it to go OnDemand on cable, and they only keep a couple episodes. If we had been more than a few episodes behind on the current season, we'd have to wait for the DVD release to watch it.
EDIT: OK, this week's episode puts 3 Whedon alum actors into a single episode. I might have to look up the casting director.
