Why do SG's make their teleporters hard to find?
I just wish the teleporters/vault/workbenches were marked on the map...
I understand why they can't be at the moment but would be nice.
Sounds like just poor base layout.
My bases have the Teleporter rooms located close to the base entrance. It makes it so much easier to run to quickly when I use the base to get between zones.
if you dont like how someones base is organized you can always start your own sg and save up prestige to make the base how you want it.
if you join someone elses group, 9/10 times you will have to search the base anyway to find where everything is, and then there are some groups which have bases set up like mazes which can make things worse
Er - you can use the map when you're in an SG base. There's no fog-of-war or anything there. Should make it easy to not backtrack or have to spend "10 minutes" looking. Plus, once you do find them, you should be able to recognize where they are the next time.
Or, perhaps... just ask where they are and save the search, or do what N_M says. Yeah, some do have poor layout, but trying to find 'porters shouldn't be a search every single time (barring a base builder who switches things daily.)
All the SGs I belong to have the TPs near the entrance, and easy to find. Sounds like you ended up in some with bad designers.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
I'll toss in another odd design: the invention table not in the same room as the personal vault or salvage bins.
I place the invention table right next to the personal vault, and 1-2 salvage bins (usually the ones with common salvage) as close as possible so you can have all three open at once (a salvage bin, personal vault, and the invention table).
The game makes you run around enough as is, so why do players want to do the same thing to their fellow players?
Sounds like just poor base layout.

That being said I have seen a few bases that looked like they were put together by an epileptic on crack. (whether purpose or just lack of caring is involved I don't know)
The most useful parts of my base are laid out like the letter "C" around the outer wall of the plot.
Medbay (with a Inspire storage)->Teleporters->Entrance Room->Workshop (Enhancement bins, crafting table located right beneath vault on wall so you don't even have to move).
The heart of the "C" leads to a salvage storage bin room.
Power and Control rooms are in an out of the way spot. Kind of a shame because I like the looks of the Arcane Control setup I have, but the intent was for people either to Rez and get right back to battle, or for them to enter, do thier crafting and such then get back to missions.
Hmmm...
I designed Arcane League to have TPs near the entrance...
The 4 most used are nearer... Atlas, Steel, Talos and PI.
Then comes the city TPs... separated by level ranges...
After the cities are the Hazzard Zones, on the order of levels, except two of then, that are my favorite and have emphasis (DA and RWZ).
Last, almost hidden, are the Hazzard I hate most (PP) and Pocket D...
But they are all color coded (Purple the most used, Green the cities, Blue the Hazzard) and near the entrance...

Yes. I can get lost on a straight-line map.

Most of my bases are solo so they get built according to what I can afford and need. Teleporters are never high on my list because travel has become so easy as the game evolved. So storage and crafting is usually closest to the entrance then Power/Control, and finally either medical or teleporters.

Yeah no offense intended, but this kinda thing is what drives me NUTS in SG bases.
Why do so FEW designers put their TPs in ALPHABETICAL ORDER by Zone?
It seems to be all the rage these days, to put them in order by Level - which is somewhat arbitrary and assumes all members of the SG (even newbs) actually KNOW what zones correlate to which level.
While EVERYONE knows the alphabet! Without having to stop and think "So would Steel be BEFORE Bricks? What about Hollows? Is RWZ near the Cimerora TP?
C'mon everyone, say it with me!

They also know exactly what salvage bin has the salvage they want, as it has a method too. And its not alphabetic...

I'd say probably the last 10 sg's I joined, their teleporters were impossible to find.

I run my own base, so I usually know where things are. I'm in a few other SGs with various characters, but I can usually figure things out without too much trouble. But I prefer using my own base.
I keep the port to Eden and RWZ in the furthest back room, that's my raid teleporter. That was I won't forget where it is.

Bah! My SG members are smart! We know general zone levels and everything!!
Ours are generally in level order, but I always like to do the hazard zones using the arcane TPers and beacons, and the city zones in tech so they're easy to tell.
Each to their own...

tl;dr: Alphabetical order is STUPID!

I put my Teleporters in both My SG and VG right next to the entrance, Hospital and Workshop is always connected in someway, but I have designed some intereting Doorways that may confuse people, mainly they were setup in the idea that we may do base raids someday, then the winter came and I lost most my People. I have put on the Triumph Threads though that Naughty Knights and Zodiac Hell are recruiting, so maybe I'll take the kewl little doorway down till after a few meetings with new officers and see if we want to try base raids again.
Base raids would seem the only feesable idea to put teleporters/workshops/hospitals in funny places or behind mazes to me, but some people think it's artistic to put a fancy room between their entrance and all the stuff needed for the SG.
I'd say probably the last 10 sg's I joined, their teleporters were impossible to find. I would have to run around the base literally 4 minutes to find them.
Is there a reason for this like people dont use teleporters that much? thats kind of the only reason I use SG's and stay in SG mode is to use the teleporters |

I have 4 SGs (2 hero/2 villain on 2 servers) and all of them are built for functionality. I spend very little time on aestethics. As such, all my bases are very similar in layout; entry room, 2 workrooms, 2 teleporter rooms, etc. If I can shave a few seconds off of getting around, I'll change the layout to do so.
Don't get me wrong, some ppl have very cool looking bases, but they're so large you can practically get lost in them. For me, functionality over looks everytime.
For active bases like The Wolf Pack Elite, I use a layout that is Lowbie friendly. From Medical or the Entrance, everything is laid out for quick and easy access. In fact, from the Entrance, you can see where to go for TP.
For inactive or reserve bases ... ie Storage Closets, I push storage forward and usually don't even bother with TP/Medical.
One other thing I use is the TP Overlay that Cende provided courtesy of Unbidden's website. This may be something you want to install on your machine. It works the same for TP Beacons as VidiotMaps does for ingame maps. It overlays a scripted text version of the name. It comes in several different styles of Tech and Arcane. When you (you personally, on your machine client side) enter the base, you will see the text name instead of having to decipher the graphic.
Our base designer toook my advice, with the entrance being in the center of the of the map, and 4 directions (north, east, south, west) to go to.
Teleporters are easy to see and right off to the side.
We don't get fancy into heavy item stacking, but that's due more to the some members lagging in the base if we do that, than the base designed being unable to do it.
That said, I've seen some bases designed great, but I've had a hard time navigating through them. But then I chalk that up to, if I was a more active member (or a member) I'd probably know the base a bit better.

Is there a Cimerora TP?
On a a side note, is there a out of game base editor to use as practice?
