  1. Yes, it worked great! Thank you again Llydia.
  2. Wow, I'm amazed and thankful, Llydia. I was hoping that someone who already had the mission (or at least one of the three contacts) would respond. But instead, once again the CoH community proves how exceptional it is.

You were right; I was sleeping when you posted. I've been sleeping in spurts. Assuming you can get a solid 8 hours maybe we can meet up around 5 Eastern. I'll be on and off until then as well.

Yeah, but they wuz smart chimps, with only a very few Cheetahs.

If it were just the Spelunker badge alone, I would not be asking this favor. However, Spelunker is a prerequisite for receiving the Atlas Medallion (AM), an accolade that permanently grants 5% more maximum endurance.

The AM is a common part of ALL my hero builds. Since I would like Rued Rude Rudy to be as I would develop him on a live, the Spelunker badge is a necessary component to achieve this.

Llydia, thank you! I'll be watching for a tell.

Professor, reread my first post. You are correct, RR Rudy could easily solo this mission. The problem is that he cannot get it.
  5. My level 39 brute (Rued Rude Rudy, SS/bio) is unable to get the Spelunker badge (via the "fortune teller mission") on the Beta server. I've encountered several hurdles:

    1) The Ouroboros flashback for it is bugged. When you choose the mission, you are set to level 5 (instead of the proper 14). And while you have been put into Task Force mode, no mission appears in the Nav Bar.

    2) Players do not seem able to get classic contacts between levels 10-14 (which is where the fortune teller mission would normally be granted). I tried with a friend for several hours. We did his midnight club arc at level 10 to get a classic contact. Montague never offered one. At level 11 my friend shut off xp so he wouldn't out-level the range. Then we started doing a series of scanner missions and safeguards to get a contact. No useable contact was ever offered. He would either get an inactive contact in the 15-19 range, or no contact at all would be offered.

    3) We finally gave up, deciding there really was an actual bug involving contacts between 10-14. It could even be the underlying cause of the Ouro flashback for the fortune teller mission being bugged.

So, I'm hoping someone can help. The one thing I can think of that might work is for a character from a live server, who already has the fortune teller mission in his list, to be copied to beta. If you have such a character, and are willing to help, post in this thread. You can also contact me on both the live servers and the Beta server as @cohRock . Thank you.
  6. Thanks for responding, Alpha Wolf. The store was up, it just had some sort of hiccup following thru once something was bought. The good news is, I have the flying carpet now. Here is the response to my support ticket:
    Quote:
    Hello Richard,

We are currently experiencing an issue with this particular server and are working to correct it as quickly as possible.

Please try again in a few minutes. I believe I've addressed the problem..

    Thank you,
    GM Lloyd
    City of Heroes Support Team
(I'm not sure by "server" if he meant Infinity or the store server.)

The store is down as I type, though. Maybe they are doing what they need to do to fix it for everyone.
  7. As was suggested, I've sent an in-game petition.

On a possibly related issue, I'm past due on receiving this month's Paragon Rewards token. Have folks been getting those?
  8. I finally decided to buy the Flying Carpet. I've had Rocket Board for long time, but wanted my magic characters to have a choice. At any rate, I spent 600 points and the store seemed to process it just like normal. However, there is no Flying Carpet, not in my email:AccountItems nor my powers:Inherent list.

I'm hoping something in the back-end is just slow, and it will be credited to me tomorrow. Are other people seeing slow response (or broke response) from the store?
  9. After you do Father Time's first mission, he offers Ksenia Stray as contact. She moves immediately to inactive contact though, even if she wasn't already there. Is this what is supposed to happen?

I was sort of hoping for a Praetorian holiday mission the first time I saw this.
  10. There was a message at 6:30am Eastern saying that the servers would be going down in 30 minutes to shut off double XP.
  11. Missed portents?

    1) About a year ago, the Test Server was wiped. Not in itself evil; we always knew that the devs reserved the right to wipe or even shut down the test server at any time. But after six years of unofficial support for the tester community, all characters were wiped. No warning nor explanation was given. Everyone, including many advanced native characters were just gone one day. Note that the test server had been overwritten before; the devs would announce that a backup would be made, a copy of Freedom (?) would replace it, and when the testing was over, the actual test characters would be restored. Not this time.

    2) About six months ago, official foreign language was dropped, both in the forums and on the Zukunft and Vigilance servers as well. Since I speak neither German nor French, I felt slightly bad for those players, but I didn't think it was something that would affect me.

    3) Two days before the closure announcement, Zwill held his final coffee talk ( http://www.twitch.tv/paragonstudios/b/330380418 ) as a Paragon Studios employee. It started late, was very disorganized, and covered nothing very interesting. While they joked about upcoming "secret projects", I wonder now if they sensed the reaper.

That all said, I still hope that somehow City of Heroes continues. Still, maybe I wasn't listening as well as I should have been.

    WHY WOULD YOU DECLINE THAT?!?!?!!
Um, 80 million is a tad high ... Even 8 million would take a long time to recoup your investment. $500,000 to 2,000,000 is more likely the range of offers received.
  13. Good article. Thank you for providing the link.
  14. Thank you. You make a great Stan and Lou!
  15. Well, darn. I ran the requirements analyzer, and it told me:

Your PC's ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series is below the game's recommended specification.

The recommended specification to enjoy The Secret World with the highest settings on is a GeForce GTX 560 Ti or higher. Check below to see some upgrade options.
Sigh. My pc is only about 2 years old, too.
  16. Inspirational, and a great resource for those who might want to spread the news. Thank you.

    token?!

I had thought we were not to get any more VIP bennies, but on logging on this morning, a brandy-new Paragon Rewards token was waiting for me.

Heck, if this months stipend of Paragon Points arrives in a couple days, I'll have enough to buy bio-armor. ... Hopefully some day.

    bucket list

First off, my actual hope is that the bucket list proves to be a moot concept.

That said, I gotta start mine off with a completed item I didn't even know I wanted...

    * butt-slide into store
A few minutes ago, my level 13 blaster was headed to the Science Store in Skyway. He flew over a crowd of trolls, and one of them threw a boulder at him. It was just as he had shut off his rocket board and clicked the door. The boulder knocked him on his a**, but he then proceeded to enter the store by sliding in, butt-down.

I gotta learn how to use demorecord; that was funny!

What unexpected goals do you have, or already completed?
  19. I'll be staying live. I feel that, if we do end up ending, the best way to go out is to continue as I always have done. Also I feel that if large number of folks move exclusively to beta, it will make the live servers seem barren, an effect that is already happening.

I'm not saying don't occasionally play on beta, nor not to check out what i24 offers. Personally, though, I'd appreciate it if you helped keep the "real worlds" going.
  20. Assuming no white knight steps forward and buys CoH and Paragon Studios, could we be our own white knight and form a co-operative? Stakeholders would be

    * developers (who would also be co-op employees)
    * VIP players
    * (possible) Valve or some other company to provide network services for a fee. One of the benefits to Valve would be "free" access to the barely-used in-game billboard ads to creatively show off their other games.
    * Deep Pockets -- some one or some company which would provide funds to revive Paragon Studios and acquire the CoH IP until the new co-op structure would be self-sufficient. Deep Pockets would get their investment back, with interest.

Missing from the traditional corporate structure are shareholders, who would expect a continuing return on their investment. Once Deep Pockets were paid back, all after-tax revenue would stay with the co-op.

I'm not sure how realistic this concept is, but it has worked for multiple sorts of organizations, pre-dating "crowd-funding" by decades if not centuries.
  21. Yes, it would affect my decision. I'd likely still end up playing, but not with the same gusto.

By coincidence, I just experienced something like this. My Ultima Online account had been expired for several months, due to credit card change. (They could not auto-bill.) This morning I received email inviting me back, with free logins for the month of September. So I updated the advanced client and logged in. And ... everything was gone. In UO you can have a house where you can store loot, soul crystals, etc. I had like a 13-year old account, and lots of stuff stored. Logging on and seeing it all gone was a sad loss, even though I hadn't actually played in many months. I probably won't be back to UO.
  22. ... but ...

(I've got to backup this whole conjecture.)

    One wonders why, this:

    * surprise announcement of "We're shutting CoX down. Devs, Martha will bring you your pink slips this afternoon."

    instead of this:

    * Press Release: "NCSoft is refocusing it's priorities, and it's acclaimed and profitable City of Heroes MMO is up for sale. We will be considering all offers and hope to choose one that pleases the fans, the CoX developers, and NCSoft stockholders."

I'm hoping that there are offers from folks who want to keep this game and Paragon Studios going. ... but I can't help wondering why NCSoft would kick the puppy before selling it.
  23. Thanks, XMas, the snipping tool works well. It didn't occur to me because I normally play in full-screen mode. Nowadays it's easy enough to switch between full-screen and windowed -- no restart or anything.
  24. I know after you've been kicked in the head, one reaction is to leave the barn. But if CoH's closure hurts, does it make sense to leave right away? Why not stay and keep having fun?

The jacka** who kicked us was not the developers, nor the players. It looks like we have until at least 30 November. So, please, let's make the most of it until then.
  25. I used to be able to printscreen to save a screenshot to clipboard, then open the clipboard in a graphics program. Well, I can still do that, but the resulting image is always solid black, the size of my game screen. Id like to get my CoH characters saved.

Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how I might fix it? Here's some details about my system:
