Am I the oldest player in the City?

Curious if there are other old farts out there like me.

I am 60 years old, and have loved comics and superheroes since I read my first Superman comic during the Silver Age in the 1950s and watched George Reeves on TV. And in the 60s, I got to see comics evolve firsthand as Stan Lee brought "real" people into the mix. All in color. All for a dime.

Other than a lifelong love affair with comics (and Star Trek, Sci-Fi and Comic Book movies), I have lived a "regular" life. College-educated. Married. Good family life. Terrific white-collar job.

Anyone else out there like me? Or am I as odd as I sometimes think I am?

I just turned 46 this week.

I've met a few people in the game who said they were older than I was, but not many.

I'm 43 this June, so a bit behind you. There was a new guy posting yesterday, with a name like 'KM STRYKER" or something like that, who from the things he said seemed to be well into his 50's at least. Anyway, you're likely *among* the oldest, as once you start getting much past 60 folks seem to be deathly afraid of computers, or at least of screwing them up.

Judging from the things my dad does to his sometimes, this would appear to be a quite justified fear. Then again, I told him he didn't want Vista.

50 years old here.

OP is 8 years older than I. (yay?)

Seems like so many players don't believe me when I say how old I am. Guess they think I should be dead or something.

I've written multiplayer computer games older than most players. Computers weren't invented just yesterday and computer networks are far older than you think, kiddies.

Here's a little history lesson on a forerunner for some of the computer utilities you use today: (search "plato (computer system)", or

I'm only 25 but I have a member of my SG that is 60 something. I think 63 he said, but that was a year or more ago when he told me.

So you aren't alone. :P

I am 44 so not the oldest. I have run into someone that was in their 50's.

There seems to be quite a few of us older players and that is a good thing I think.

I had a 4 year old nephew play this game a couple years back.

All I'm saying about my age is it's the same number as a power choosing level.

At 58, I am right there behind ya, and most of your description fits me too

I have met quite a few others in game in our range, too.

49 (50 in Oct.) here. Oldest one in our SG will only admit to their age starting with a 5, so GH has us beat there. Lots of "old" comic geeks in this game, though.

Dec out.

I will be turning 41 years of physical age come this November...

Mental age, on the other hand, is subject to a great deal of debate..

46 here. Obviously there is part of me that never grew past the age of 10 and viewed the changes of adolescence with great horror. This despite paying income tax, having a serious job and all the other hallmarks of adulthood.

I have an sgmate in his mid 60s and the SG as a group is mainly 40-somethings. We enjoy how he makes us the young ones.

I'm 30 years old, so I'm one of the younguns of this thread.

This thread goes a long way toward proving a theory I've had for a while now.

I theorized that a large part of why this playerbase is one of the friendliest of any MMO is because the average player age is quite a bit higher than most other games out there.

The twits that make people not want to play games because of the elitist attitude and general rudeness probably average 25 years old. From what I've seen the average age in CoH is closer to 35.

The older you get, the more you realize that how cool you are isn't determined by how mean you can be to someone asking a perfectly reasonable question.

Our forums are pretty friendly, and in-game I've found that real jerks are few and far between, for the most part. Sure, there's plenty of idiots, but relatively few people that are intentionally mean.

I chalk that up to the fact that a lot of the players here have outgrown the "I'm going to pick on you because you're different and everyone else is picking on you too." stage of their life. We've all done it to some degree or another, and I've always felt that the indicator of what kind of person you are was whether or not you felt bad about it later. (I always did, but I can't speak for everyone)

So, rock on older players! You are a large part of the reason this game has the friendliest community around!

im 34, and i love this thread i work with a bunch of 20 year olds and feel old.

as for claws conjuncture, it may help, back when i was 20, i played a online game called phantasy star online, and to transfer items, you had to trust another player to hold an instance of the "world" open i quickly found that 30 was something of a magic number, if someone mentioned being 30+ and having kids, they were far more likely to be helpful, the younger the worse really. i recall reading a piece about the dropping crime rate in the us, and one police officer made a comment that the best crime prevention tool was a 30th birthday, I have come to see the increasing wisdom in it. its not a lock, some people sneak stupid past their birthday, and some grow up earlier, but its a notable difference.
