Am I the oldest player in the City?
I'll be 30 in June. It has always seemed to me like the CoX player base is older than with other games, but that's fine by me. Means more mature civilized people as opposed to a bunch of obnoxious kids running around being obnoxious in leet speak.
Combined age of my wife and myself is 128 we both have 2 accounts altitus at our age is bad ,we enjoy playing CoH and have made some good friends on line also we have a few family members who play.So all you youngsters out there watch out you could be teaming with your granpa or granma

My 12 year old and I play occasionally although most times he wants to solo, I guess to get away from the "Old Man"...
Well, I signed up for AARP today. Those of you old enough know that AARP has it timed for you to receive their invitaton on a particular birthday, and the mail from them has been arriving like clockwork over the past 3 months.
I had to learn how to use a slide rule in high school physics, even though calculators were starting to be pretty powerful and more common, because my teacher wanted us to have a "back up plan".
In college, if I wanted to run a statistical analysis of anything (as a poli sci student) I had to create a pile of punch cards and hope I never dropped them because I would never get them back in order.
I never played any twitch games and the lack of that mechanic is one of the reasons I love City and have stayed here for over 5 years. I was awkwardly "too grown up" (late teens and college-age) for Atari when my younger sibs got their 2600, so other than Pong at the local Pizza Hut, I didn't really play video games until my mid 30s, after I got my own IBM386 (I worked for a small business that built computers). Wizardry Gold? Sim City? Heroes of Might & Magic? That's what I played until I started MMos right here in Paragon City.

Dec out.
I am a bit over the hill myself (fell off the other side and broke my foot).
I was a bit surprised to find a few of my fellow players enjoying the slide down the other side.
I turned 45 on the 24th of January.
For shame! It is SO wrong for a 110 year old man to marry an 18 year old! WRONG I SAY!! FOR SHAME!! SHAAAAAAAAAME!!!

Abbott: How old are you?
Costello: 40
Abbott: What if the girl you are interested in is 10 years old?
Costello: 10 years old? That's too young.
Abbott: Of course, that won't do. You're 4 times older than she is. So how about you waiting 5 years for her to grow up a bit.
Costello: She'd be 15 and I'll be 45.
Abbott: 15 is better, but you're still 3 times older than her.
Costello: People will talk.
Abbott: Yes, so what if you both give it more time. You love her, right? She loves you, right?
Costello: Of course.
Abbott: So wait 15 more years. Your love can last that long, right? You'll be 60 and she'll be 30. Now you'll only be twice as old as she.
Costello: She's catching up fast. If I wait any longer, she'll be older than me!

My mom plays. She's 63. And she has no qualms about tellin' ya her age. Most folks don't believe her, tho.

Okay here's old.
And no it isn't a laptop without a screen You used to play games on these, three colours, yellow, black and white. Games were on Cassette tape and would take on average 15 minutes to load and would make an awful noise while loading. You young'uns never had it so good!! |

Curious if there are other old farts out there like me.
I am 60 years old (and have a life) Anyone else out there like me? Or am I as odd as I sometimes think I am? |
My father plays, and his birthday was in 1935. So no, you're not the oldest.
I can tell you, even 5 years at my age make a huge difference to how I could play -then- and how I force myself to play in particular ways now. Lots more keyboard shortcuts than mouse-clicks, standardization of attack powers in the power tray across my 110+ characters, and a predilection towards playing non-support characters and avoiding positional Melee characters (like Scrappers). Reflexes start to slow down -a lot-, coupled with the 300ms penalty for playing in Australia, it's why I don't do PvP (well, two of the reasons, the other ones being 'PvP is inherently retarded' )
Hope this adds some useful information.

Time for me to drive up the average. As everyone will tell you that I am the oldest player they have ever met in any game.
When I was around 20 years old, we complained because fuel prices reached $0.23.

We saw a woman become a governor...well, not actually saw it. More like read about it.
I was an instant fan of Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees.
Coolidge was President...a very conservative man, as I recall. He was Vice President before that, but Harding died.
My birthday is September 12, 1915.
Yes, that's right. I'm 94 years old.
(not really, but that's what I tell everyone ingame. I'm really 44 going on 95.
My dad is really sick at the moment (shingles), but he still gets on occasionally for his personal PvP recipe 'farm' on his dual accounts. I redesigned his Justice base for him, it's pretty good now, you ought to visit it one day. I'll send you a coalition join thingy next time you can drag yourself away from Freedumb.

Turned 53 last September and I like the Op loved comic books and use to go the the 5 & 10 store to buy the buybacks (the covers would be cut in half and they sold for a penny) because that was all my brother and I could afford.
Loved Sci-fi and still do today, I have two sons who are gamers as well and in fact when I talk about the old days having to to to Center City Philadelphia with my brother to play the latest video games (we use to go down and play pong) they called made a shirt for me that had OG on it for Original Gamer...lol
46 here.
maybe us old timers could one day form an SG - what would we call ourselves? Depends on how we're feeling I guess. |
I'll be 43 in a couple of weeks and I agree with those who say that, overall (keyword: overall), my more enjoyable teaming experiences come when the average age of my teammates is 30+.
That being said, I've teamed with some thirty-somethings and perhaps one or two college-aged people. It's intriguing how on such teams the college-aged people can be sometimes more mature than the thirty-somethings... and also intriguing how they tend to "step up" and we have discussions that don't start with "lolz" or "kthxbai". (I'm not saying that language is any indication of intelligence or maturity, I'm just stating that I rarely find 30+ talking like that).
I love reading how there are seventy-somethings teaming up with pre-teens and younger.
NCSoft is doing something right.

I am 60 years old, and have loved comics and superheroes since I read my first Superman comic during the Silver Age in the 1950s and watched George Reeves on TV. And in the 60s, I got to see comics evolve firsthand as Stan Lee brought "real" people into the mix. All in color. All for a dime. Other than a lifelong love affair with comics (and Star Trek, Sci-Fi and Comic Book movies), I have lived a "regular" life. College-educated. Married. Good family life. Terrific white-collar job. Anyone else out there like me? Or am I as odd as I sometimes think I am? |
I'm 43 years old. I try to keep as much joy in my life as I can, so most of my friends are in the 18-35 range. My hobbies include COX, Unicycling, Juggling, and Ballroom Dance. Remember, you have to keep moving. Once you stop, they put you in a box.
