Okay, animated tails. Good.
Bushy animated tails.. Ok.
Proliferation of "furry" RP'ers... not so good.
This could go tragically wrong. The only saving grace would be that "bushy" tails would require some extra texture mapping (probably available with Ultra mode) that isn't the cheapest effect to produce, lest the "bushy" tail appears more solid than airy. I think the best low-tech tail effect I've seen was Fox McCloud's tail in Star Fox Adventures (which wasn't that bad of a game even if it killed the star going franchise).
But while Im exercising my brain that way:
New Attack Set:
Feral:
(1) Claw Swipe : Med Damage +rech
(2) Gouge : Med Damage, -tohit
(3) Leg/Tail whip : PbAoE, low damage, knockdown
(4) Build Up
(5) Bite: Heavy damage
(6) Confront/Taunt
(7) Feral Swipe : Superior damage, -Def, -regen(minor)
(8) Rapid Fury : Cone, 45deg arc, Heavy damage, -Heal -Regen
(9) Nature's Wrath : Click. Self +Rech +Dam. -Dam -Rech after 60seconds.
2 Minor Combos:
Taste of Blood: Feral Swipe, Claw Swipe, Bite : Self Heal
Gaia's Embrace: Rabid Fury, Gouge, Tail/Leg whip : +Res(all)
Back under the bridge i go....

I advocate for less bush. Do we really need more bushSh*t?
d;D
That's like a Quadruple Pun!! Tokyo wins the internets!
A fox tail would be nice with the option to not animate.
I don't mind the furries, they make the game more interesting.

There is no logic behind this. If people are really that 'hardcore' about it, they'll already be in game. Not having costume pieces because 'Zomg, furries be stealin mah brains' makes about as much sense as letting Jack Emmert back on the Dev team. As lead Dev. And giving him a pay rise.
I'd be playing 'furry' characters already if the costume pieces that related to anthromorphic characters weren't so bloody awful. I know a few others who would as well. The ones I know are perfectly good RPers, so I dont know what tripe you ran into to have this illogical thing against RP.
Christ. It's called an MMORPG for a reason. It makes my cerebrals glitch out, it really does...
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I'm sorry but, what?

The same holds true through the 'net(s). Very few people stop and think that Chuck Jones was a Furry (Bugs Bunny), or that Walt Kelly was a Furry (Pogo), or that Walt Disney was a Furry (Mickey Mouse), or that Jim Davis is a Furry (Garfield). The "furry's" that leave an impression... generally leave the wrong impression.
Part of it is personal perception. Part of it is intentional outside skewing. Part of it is the type of people who want to be noticed and make an effort to be noticed.
As to how to counter that wrong impression? Sometimes I'm not sure I have answer.
Oh no... dont you threadjack and fault me for observing.
Kage is a great con chair and a great guy. (I think he's still chairing AC). There are some really great furs out there. My wife and I got a nice tour of DisneyWorld on our honeymoon by Herbie Bearclaw (a disney animator at the time). Randy let me come on the PawPet show twice. I've got a bag full of great stories.
And then there is the bag of OMG stories. Something happens between face to face interaction and that through the monitor. Not to say that it doesn't happen with less fuzzy avatars, but furs seem to just go the extra mile in this regard. That's one of the reasons why I quietly dropped out of the fandom some years ago. Seems like you couldn't find a social furry hangout that wasn't turning into a cybersex corner.
Perhaps I am a little over-reactive. I'll concede that willingly. But don't try to pass me off as an ignorant mundane.

Couldn't have put it better myself, J_S. Seriously, I tend to just get narked, which is probably a bad reaction ^^;
Understood, NM, and I do know where that's coming from. I watch a couple of really talented artists on the art site FurAffinity. I stick solidly to posting on deviantArt though, becase the FA crowd genuinely unsettles me.
This is the reason I always defend my art as 'anthro art' and not furry, because of the mass misconception it all brings with it. But its the same misconception as 'OMG, all RPs do is ERP!' or 'OMG, all furries are freaks!' or 'OMG, all PvPers are horrible and obnoxious trolls!'
All of which are untrue. (I have 2/3 there, but a few friends are quite solid PvPers and are perfectly nice people.)
All groups have their darksides, I guess.
Something, something -

If you wanted an "animal melee" set... I would think it's not too far fetched.
There's plenty of super heroes that use animal powers. From just having claws/teeth to using a spirit or totem animal/s.
Make a set that caters to all of that.
Shouldn't be too hard. The way wings(and soon tails) were implemented they move based on what animation you're doing at the time. You just have to add in some triggers in the attacks.
Make the whole set have the effect of... say, a glowing replica of the body part you're using to attack. "Bear Maul" makes big paws appear over your hands. "Alligator snap" makes teeth/head. Then you just add in a wing and tail power that generate glowing wings/tails.
The basic implication being that it's the "spirit" of the animal that is attacking. Or that you're mimicking their movements. But if you allow for power customization... you just have to give us the option of turning off the "totem" effect and we're just left with basic animal-like attacks. More to the point, remove the effect from a wing/tail attack. And if you have the correct body part, it will appear to do the attack it self.
That makes sense, right?

A general 'Brawling/Mauling' set would be good, that could double up as street fighting, or dirty fighting.
Etc

I think I've made my point.
Formerly known as Stormy_D
I want a third arm as a tail. Randomly it will wave, flex, or hold a picket sign. If I use the clap emote it will try, realize it has no second hand, and sulk. When I try the sit emote it will push me back standing. The same goes for when I get knocked back, it will catch me and throw me back at the enemy.
Best part, when two people with arm tails get near each other they will react, shaking hands, high fives, or thumb wrestling. Then they will get sad when we leave.
Sounds easy enough...
If we do end up with bushy tails, I'm hoping really hard for a skunk pattern. My skunk doesn't look right with the tails available....

It looks like we're about to lose the old 'legacy' tails in favor of animated tails. I have characters who use all the tails and will likely make great use of the animated tails when they're released.
Please let me take this opportunity to request something that has been missing from the tail menu since launch: Bushy Tails Most dogs do not have narrow tails. Most are quite bushy, with a few exceptions. Accordingly, there aren't many tail options for canine-themed characters. I personally have a Racoon-themed character, so a striped texture on a bushy tail would be fantastic. I imagine that there are quite a few fox-themed character who'd appreciate a 'point' texture. Thank you for your consideration. |
squirrels (the famous beat-everyone Squirrel Girl of Marvel Comics maybe?)
skunks (Asrial from Ninja High School)
foxes (any of a number of characters from myth, legend and comics all over the world...Reynard, Kitsune, the Foxes of Aesop...etc)
wolves (werewolves)
dogs (rifts dog boys...would also appreciate less snarly heads in that regard)
raccoons (or tanukis)
so on and so forth

I made my monkeygirl in CO when I tried it (for all of one day). Have to say the tails were really stiff and straight. They seemed very fake, even though they were animated. Hopefully ours won't be as starchy.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

I won't be happy until I can recreate Captain Carrot and the entire Amazing Zoo Crew.
Last time I saw tails in CO when the person was far enough from the camera for the quality to drop the tail would rotate 90 degrees and just look like some sort of alien tentacle following people around. Our tails should easily be better then that.

Wow.
Anyways - yeah, I was thinking that since they're doing this work on the tails that they might have a few new ones up their sleeve for us as well. I know the "we need more, thicker tails!" thing has bounced around these forums for as long as I've been here anyway.
I'm crossin' my fingers for more!

That, and Champions Online's graphics just make me cringe every time. Whenever I see a screenshot, I'm reminded of Final Fantasy 7, or possibly Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf. I keep wanting to ask "Where are the textures!" and "Are the details stuffed way down low?" Because the whole thing looks like way back in the day when my Tomb Raider 2 game would run out of memory and stop rendering textures. You could still see where everything was thanks shading, but everything was a flat white colour.
So, yeah, I'd expect more from our tails than I've seen in Champions Online, for the simple reason that our graphic designers have good taste and serious skill Graphic engines do not a good game make. Talented graphic designers do, and our just happen to be top-notch.
